Hi first post
2DS XL has been dropped down stairs and with inspection it has sheared the top screen ribbon cable in half and the wifi cable is in 2 bits.
This has happened within the hinge area itself.
Battery is charged and it reads over 4vdc
Press power and blue light comes and goes with very faint flash on botton screen and pop sound.
Charging light appears also when charging ...which seems fine.
Questions- can the ds operate without this top screen connected? Or does it have to be connected for unit to boot.
Just my thoughts were that, seen as though top screen is not connected due to cables broke, i was in the mind set that i thought the bottom screen would still work??
Tried holding START but nothing
Also all flex cables have been re seated
And tried holdin A B UP ..... etc but nothing.
Hoy many FUSES has DS2 XL got? And where are they located

If you can help , id be very grateful

Right now ive removed battery , and im going to leave it out for 10 mins then try again.
Ive also disconnected back with the camera flex and speakers as it was in the way when checking board, i presume this is ok to leave off while testing?

The DSi must have both screens to function. You can replace them, however. I did this, and the only real trouble I had was inserting the ribbon cables and keeping them in place.

Not too sure about the Wifi cable though, I think you can turn the Wifi off on startup or something?? I can't remember the fix for a bad Wifi card.

Pretty late, but:
  1. This should go on here.
  2. The problem is the ribbon cable; the 3DS has a security messure, that if any ribbon cable is compromised or disconnected, the console will not turn on, and will just pop the blue light. Possibly your best bet, is to try to track a top screen and a WiFi module if you're willing the risk of repairing the console yourself. If not, and if it's stock (no homebrew, no CFW) you should send it to Nintendo. And if it has CFW or homebrew, try to meet someone who would repair it for a reasonable fee.
Good luck.

thanks guys, this gives me confidence to repair the top screen now knowing that if one screen is compromised the whole thing doesnt work.
How do these cables get damages ? In a area of the hinge , where you would think they are more protected to mechanical damage? The console was dropped down stair....Oooops!! XZKF6857[1].jpg

For a console worth $180 is it worth sending to Nintendo? Surely they wont be cheap? Pretty much like Apple?
