There's new switches out there that have been patched thus unhackable. It's by serial number. This thread will tell you which ones can/can't.

https://team-xecuter.com/forums/threads/154355-GUIDE-How-to-know-if-a-Switch-is-currently-unhackable-(August-2018)

That doesn't automatically mean just buying used will = hackable. But buying new probably means unhackable. It's kinda tricky. I got mine at a pawn shop yesterday and looked at the serial number before I purchased it, I was given no crap for asking. But Gamestop has a lot of douchebags that might straight up ask you why you're asking. If it ends up being unhackable you can probably exchange it though and say it was defective.
Thanks. Should I get a jig or should I use tinfoil? what are the benefits of a jig?

Get a jig off Ebay they're like $2. I just got my Switch yesterday and I'm using tinfoil but I got a jig coming. I read about the possibility of the tinfoil ruining your Switch and/or joycon, not worth it for $2.

hello community !
as soon as the n64 and ps1 and ps2 emulators come out for switch is when ill be jailbreaking.
tell me, what is nice about jailbreaking a switch right now ?? just to be clear?
besides the obvious im sure NES or SNES emulators, what good ones do you think we will see in near future ?? perhaps dreamcast??
i also have seen it emulates gamecube very well so im sure it has some power.

There's zero reason to believe PS2/Dreamcast will be emulated on Switch, none. If they are, it will have like 5% compatibility or less. If those are so important to you you could buy each system for cheap, or emulate on PC. If those are the only reason you want a Switch, maybe you don't need one at all. You could get a PC pad for about the price of the Switch or sometimes less that could emulate PS2/Dreamcast much better right now.

that is not the only reason i want to own a switch. i have owned my switch since it came out.
im saying that is why i would want to jailbreak my switch
a dreamcast emulator was absolutely sought for the wiiu
so i wish that the switch would eventually get to that point because so many people said that wiiu could never do half of what it does now.
im just a fan of having my games on my nintendo console personally but the PC pad is a cool idea that i will keep in mind. thanks for your response.

Hi.
I installed nsp and the game wants me to update the fw.
I'm on 5.1.0, as far as I know , there is no game out there that requires fw 6.
What should I do?
Thx.

You can do majority of things SX OS accomplishes with free CFW. Follow this guide.
Ill definitely take a look! Thats all I needed for my Switch, but I bought my brother a Switch for Christmas yesterday, and I want to be able to load backups and stuff because hes young and cant afford games. I assume that part is covered in the guide?
Buying SXOS isnt an issue for me, its quite cheap.

Sooo , I succesfully inject the payload on my switch but when I restart my switch nothing as changed and the homebrew launcher doesn't work when I go to the album

Any ideas? the part with the 10th pin was so difficult I hope I won't have to do it again :(

EDIT : I went to the discord of ReinX guide and they were really nice to me and help me a lot , my Nintendo switch is functionnal now ! I just have to find some good homebrews so if you guys, have any ideas feel free to tell me :) !

Currently backing up my Switch’s NAND using Hekate and, well, it’s been 7 hours now and counting... X’D So, how normal is this, because I’ve read that it would only take 1-2 hours?

It’s currently at rawnand.bin.05 and still writing ^^

Now, this is kind of a simple question but it'll probably be easy to answer. I'm a complete noob to the Switch as I literally just purchased one online. I heard about players getting banned online for playing hacked games, so, can I circumvent that by just buying copies of the games I intend to play online? Thanks in advance.

Sadly not! AFAIK it’s the actual manipulation of your Switch that causes Nintendo to ban you, whether you play pirated games or not. Simply going online with a Switch running CFW could get you banned, which is why most people will turn on flight mode after hacking it.

I plan on getting another, second Switch once Animal Crossing has been released (a lot of people seem to be doing this). I’m hoping for a special edition console, which I will then use for all my purchased games ^^

Thanks for the reply! Shame. I think I'll hang on for a little before hacking then as I'm looking forward to playing some games online. I still bought a jig though, just in case.

Wow 9 hours have now passed and Hekate is still writing the backup files. I'm at rawnand.bin.07 now and 80% of the Switch's battery has been drained since the process started... I think I'd better plug in the charger XD

The guide gives you the homebrew application, Tinfoil, which is a title manager. One of its functions is to install .NSP files which, if you use a CFW that has "signature patches", will be able to install backups you do not own.

NX-Shell (file manager), Checkpoint (save manager), and ChoiDujourNX (firmware installer).
If I either update firmware or update Reinx am I going to have to reinstall all my games with Tinfoil?
No. You would only need to reinstall your games if your SD card becomes corrupted for example.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
