Team-Xecuter Presents 'SX Dumper' v1.0.3

NEWS UPDATED: Dec. 20th / TX and their [WAIN] friends are back with another update to the cartridge dumper app!
SXD_103.jpg

Another hard-working day at TX headquarters and yet another release, this time around just small update to their SX Dumper app. :)
Another day, another update from your Xecuter team.

This time it is SX Dumper which goes to v1.0.3 with a new function to dump cert only.

1.0.3 Change log:
  • Add option for cert only dumping output:
    Selected folder/certificates/gamename [cert crc32].cert
  • Various stability fixes and lib upgrades
(As usual, please remember all our latest releases & apps, can be found on our sx.xecuter.com portal website)
(What follows below is the last few announcements regarding the SX Dumper from TX, click the 'Spoiler' to see the previous details in full.)
SX Dumper continues to get feedback from our SX OS users!

And [WAIN] continues to return the thanks for all the feedback we received, by releasing another small update.

Enjoy!

1.0.2
  • fixed splitting no longer hang on after 2gb.
SX Dumper was a hit as soon as it was published and thanks to all the feedback we received, [WAIN] was still on fire and updated it right away.

Enjoy! :)

1.0.1
  • Keep console awake no more button presses while dumping!
  • fixed bug with detecting cart too quickly.
  • folder selection ("Root" ,"/sxos/xci/" , "/sxos/games/")
  • UI adjustments for left stick navigation instead of left up down right for options
  • Changed to Titleid.xci for Japanese,Chinese,Korean,Taiwanese
Today, we are back with the help of our friends [WAIN] who developed a very useful app for SX OS: the SX Dumper!

As the name indicates it, this app will allow you to dump an original game to your microSD card or USB HDD and then play directly with your backup without the need of the original game anymore. This version 1.0.0 is already packed with features, and we are already working on the next update(s) to bring you an even smoother experience.

SX Dumper v1.0.0
  • Dump to .XCI
  • Automatically filenaming (full gamename.xci)
  • USB HDD & microSD Card support
  • Trimmed dumping (removed unused space from backup)
  • Certificate wiping
  • Splitting files for FAT32 filesystem
  • CRC checking dumped image

yeah, but what's wrong with loading the application from the SX OS menu? Not everyone needs a way to dump cards and I really do not see this as a job a CFW has to do. I'd say it's perfectly reasonable to have this available as a standalone tool, TX branded or not.

Do you run SX OS on your NSW? Do you like to have .nsp installation, homebrew loader, ftp-enable, sx os update function and cheat code engine in one system or would you prefer to load for each of these functions an separate app?

The only one function of this app is to backup your cartrige. AFAIR every hardware/software which enables a console running backups had a backup-function implented, too. (CD-based consoles excluded).

I guess, the only reason that backup-function is yet not included in boot.dat is bad coding and need of rush delivery. Why I say "bad coding"? Because they missed to add "sleepless" mode while backup a cartridge.

WHAT'S THE STORY? did TX finally stop stealing/pillage open source projects, and now Tx pays/bribes some dev to make exclusive HB for them??

Do you "bribe" McDonald's workers to make you a sandwich? I have no idea if this guy was paid or not, but that is really none of your business and is irrelevant. The app was used with the author's explicit permission, and that is all that matters.

I don't use SX OS anymore, no.

But since you're bringing up nsp installation in particular: In every SX OS thread you can find a lot of people who prefer .XCI and will condemn .NSP files as insecure and pretty much cause for instaban, and likewise we both know full well that the majority of "backups" on the switch (SX OS or any other CFW) are just a euphemism. Therefore I think that it's perfectly reasonable for things like nsp installation and card dumping to be seperate from SX OSes rommenu as these are not really integral to the CFW experience. I am not complaining about TX releasing their own branded apps for this, btw, even if their branded apps only work on their OS - that's entirely their decision.

Even an update function and possibly cheat code menu could possibly be facilitated as a standalone app, but these are an integral part of the CFW experience and/or heavily intertwined to justify being part of rommenu. Obviously, ftp-enable is a CFW setting and needs to be part of rommenu.

I just don't see what benefit one would have if the cart dumper was integrated into rommenu over what it is now.

AFAIR every hardware/software which enables a console running backups had a backup-function implented, too. (CD-based consoles excluded).
tbh, I can't think of a recent one, particularly hardware wise. Neither my Everdrive64 nor my EZFlash GBA Flashcards have any option to backup retail games.

As for software examples:
on Xbox most people used DVD2Xbox to copy a disc to the console and whatever dashboard (UnleashX, EvoX, XBMC etc.) they chose to run them
on the 360, I think it was a similar case when you were working with a JTAG/RGH console. You had a dashboard to launch your backups and a separate tool to create them.
on the PS3, I believe most people used multiman to back their games up but are also using other methods to load them (webman for example). Again, distinct tools.

But maybe I am somewhat biased in my observations because I prefer the "one tool - one job" approach, particularly when it comes to software so I can mix and match it to my desires.

I'd rather have a good knife, good flashlight, good screwdriver etc. than a swiss army knife that does everything okay-ish.

Show me where anyone said anything "anti-xecuter" in this particular thread...

Go back in time and get a look at Super ProFighter, Super Wildcard, etc (16 bit copier) or Doctor V64, Mr Z Backup (N64) and GB Copier from Bung Enterprise. All those hardware were created to make backups of your own cartridge.

As for software examples:
on Xbox most people used DVD2Xbox to copy a disc to the console and whatever dashboard (UnleashX, EvoX, XBMC etc.) they chose to run them

I made my backups on X360 with the built-in copy function of Freestyle Dash/Aurora...

I understand your point of view very well. But you can not really compare a simple "copy" function with specialised tools.

I get the swiss army knife analogy, but I disagree that any feature of SX OS is only okay-ish. All features advertised work as intended, except maybe for the so called "Emunand".

The EmuNAND works great, though? I think people are inflicted with a bunch of FUD from the people screeching about it in the first day - people who were proven wrong shortly thereafter. In short, the SXOS EmuNAND solution was proven to be a sane way of implementation.

Assuming it's WAIN, it'd be a copyright violation without approval of the ReSwitched devs (dear god, WAIN is complicated to figure out what the source is, but I think this is the source code for it: https://github.com/MCMrARM/switch-game-card-dumper , which is ARR since there's no license, which goes under GitHubs policy, which is ARR with the exception that GitHub must be allowed to display your source code and anyone is allowed to press the fork button. Actually changing a fork is still governed under the licenses. Summary; Licenseless github projects are a goddamn PITA, please license your projects!)

Not outright saying it is, but if it happens to be (and I'll be frank, given their history I'd be not suprised at all), then we can put another pin in "shitty stuff done by TX".

On a sidenote: Why in the world is all news for TX linked to MaxConsole? Seems a tad um... weird to link to another homebrew forum on a homebrew forum. It seems like just another pointless gobetween from the news to the source where it can be obtained.

That's what wain is apparently based on, but it's not the source code for wain directly.

@garyopa owns maxconsole (or something like that). Garyopa something funny was here promotes and love xecuter. Xecuter is directly connected to maxconsole.

Then WAINs source code was either never released or is from leaks, which would mean WAIN is wholly owned by ReSwitched and this (both the github I found and what TX might have used) which is seemingly based on WAIN (as well as the other forks for it) are violating the copyright from the RS devs.

Doesn't really warrant much for posting about it here. I have a Twitter feed. If I'm submitting news, I'm not just linking to retweets with my comments on it as the source for the obvious reason.

Garyopa gets the news first from TX and he posts it on his website before he posts it here. Since his website is always the first reporting a TX news, naturally his website IS the source. That’s how news reporting works, unless you’re afraid of competition and hide your actual source.

Whilst happy that they've paid and credited someone. I'm concerned. Are they that inexperienced that they can't program their own cart dumper?

I looked at the features and from what i recall those features are in wain cart dumper, have they added anything to it? Or changed it in someway to make it simpler to use?

Expanding on my point, ScriesM and maybe Rei are (mostly) solo. With a few people helping them out with testing/fixes every once in a while (like with Hexkyz's DRAM optimisations that sped up initial setup by 200-400%.) TX is a whole entire team with coders dating back to the original xbox scene. With 17 years of experience under their belt shouldn't they be able to make their own dumper?
