i updated my SX OS to 2.2.1 and I thought it would recognize my HDD but it’s not working.

I was on 1.9 before, removed all games from SD card except keep my license files. Then I took out a HDD, it has its own power outlet, I copied all the games to the root of the folder and then connected the HDD to the side of the switch, now the SXOS is stuck a scanning loop, any help??

sxos/xci/games.xci

dont put them on root
So on the root of my SD card, create a folder called sxos, then inside it create a folder called xci, and then inside that folder place all the games? Cause that’s ALSO what I did, but I got the same result, it’s stuck in scanning.

Seagate 4 TB Expansion USB 3.0 Desktop 3.5 Inch External Hard Drive for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (STEB4000200)

this drive from amazon works, converted drive from its ntsc format to exfat in windows 10, works a treat and only costs £87.50, bargain considering price of a 400GB memory card

Can you please post the details of your external HD? is it USB 3.0?
Not sure if it’s a 3.0, only know that it’s a Seagate 2TB bulky hard drive, it worked fine with my Wii U. It also has a cable that connects into a power outlet, that’s the only way it turns on. When the Switch is turned on it recognizes it, and turns out, but then in the album there’s nothing there

Not sure if I want to invest in another hard drive, bought this for my Wii U 3 years ago, was working fine then...

not boot loop * scanning loop -
did you make a folder inside xci called games.xci? or just paste the games there? Cause I pasted the games there and its still not recognizing.

FYI EVERYONE, MY HDD IS ON DRIVE E, SHOULD I CHANGE IT TO DRIVE D? HOW DO I DO THAT?

lol first of all I watched a youtube video where the guy pointed out that this whole folder for xci and nsp didnt even work for him and hopes it does in future to make things neater - not sure why this person thought or told you to not put in root as if thats the issue cuz its not. of course I didnt make a folder called games.xci i dont make any folders with .'s in them however for clarification purposes no worries I would love to get these xcis booting from a hdd - as of yesterday my sutpid pos GROUPON SD card gave up on me and it only worked for one game out of almost 8 i had on it so I should have known it was a pos (which I did I couldnt even get it to work after buying and got a refund) thankful I did to cuz later I thought it worked and shows its just a POS - costco has a SMASHIn deal until midnight or an hour more or so where you can get 2 64gb for like 22$ or so. so basically 256gb for $45 - not bad at all :) def gonna scoop those I wish I could afford a 400gb microsd :P

then I wouldnt need a hdd and all this stress trying to trouble shoot it :)

I really wish they had a chat room where we could talk to one another about this stuff that would be much easier as we could quickly discuss things eveeronye has :)

I also need to know how to get back into the CUSTOM FW ORIGNAL FW or OPTIONS menu - I have now at least installed auto rcm so I dont need the jig this time around but not sure how to get back to that menu and it seems it would be helpful to learn how - little tricks and tips and ways around like this is why a chat would be awesome!

I think the problem i have is either my drive is too large and or not formatted despite petabyte claim -

And in addition I think it may be a problem with having data on Microsd and it being confused having games on two drives , not sure as it still doesn’t work

Actually no I just watched a video where a guy already had Skyrim on his micro SD card and he put in an external hard drive and more games popped up

well then how can I verify the xcis are not the issue??

what do you have on your microsd card exactly and where are your xcis stored at directory wise on the 8tb drive. thanks for your help I literally gave up last nighta s I have a 5tb etxternal a 4tb external and another oen even and so far 2 of the drives havent worked or recognized so that would lead me to think its either the size of teh drive being too large or the configuration/conjunction of files on the sd card or somethign not liking the combination of both. thanks for any help in advance!
