As stated previously, turning off a console with AutoRCM from OFW/CFW causes it to reboot into RCM. To fully turn it off, you have to power it off from RCM. Once fully shutdown, turning it on causes it to enter RCM AUTOmatically.
so bottom line, once i install a payload then use choidujour to update so i can play the latest nsp files, then either turn off completely the switch by holding the power button for more than 10 seconds or if it runs out of battery on its own, then turn it on again it wont burn fuses and lock me in that firmware?

Holding the power button for more than 10 seconds in CFW/OFW will not turn it off; it will reboot into RCM. Holding the power button for more than 10 seconds in RCM will shut it down as well as it running out of battery. Either way, with AutoRCM installed, the console cannot turn on via its stock bootloader which is what primarily handles burning fuses.

thanks but i still dont understand, this place for noobs lol, a simple yes or no will suffice. after intalling cfw and update with choidujour then turn off completly the console or run out of battery then turn on again, is it safe? will it burn fuses and get stuck on the latest firmware? thanks

Sorry, I don't believe in simple yes or no because if you learn the answer to your question, you will not only understand how it works in case you have another question but you can also help others if they have similar questions.

Fuses are burnt when the console uses its stock bootloader (think of what handles powering up the console). It checks the firmware with the current fuse count (a full list can be found here). ChoiDujourNX installs AutoRCM meaning the console boots into RCM before it can use its stock bootloader. This means as long as AutoRCM is installed, you will not burn fuses whenever you are running a firmware higher than your fuse count. Fuses will only be burnt if its removed which can be done manually with various homebrew/payloads that can uninstall AutoRCM or via an official system update.

Hello,
I was wondering, if there was any way to install large nsp or xci files on my Switch via Android, like the tinfoil USB install or splitting the files, since I'm using a Fat32 SD card and can't put large files on it and currently don't have access to my PC.

I just followed the ReiNX install guide and made it all the way to the end, but the Switch just freezes on the ReiNX boot logo.

I'm on firmware 1.0.0 does that have anything to do with it?

Sadly ReiNX does not support firmware 1.0 and there doesn't seem to be any plans to support it in the future. Your alternative is to use Atmosphere instead which can be found by following this guide: https://www.sdsetup.com/

there seem to be quite a few threads about people needing online check to play their games. some about being unable to play their real games, others about being unable to play their backups. has there been any consensus as to what the problem is?f

i don't care much for piracy, so may plan is to continue purchasing games and eventually use cfw for homebrew. i know there is still risk of a ban and i'm comfortable with that. but if somehow that would lock me out of being able to play my real games, then i might need to rethink this.

I'd recommend not updating to 6.1 and using Airplane Mode to reduce this from happening as no game yet requires firmware 6.X and shutting off all wireless communications should bypass games with an online component.

Thank you for the answer

I know there are Python apps for android, is there maybe a way to get the splitter working through that?

From what I can gather, it's due to 6.x and the way it handles online and account linking. They changed the way the account is linked to the system, and also added game sharing by designating one system as the primary for the account and all others as secondary. The first system that signs into eshop with the account on 6.x gets designated as the primary. So if you keep your system completely offline on 6.x, the system probably assumes its secondary because it hasn't been told by nintendo's servers that it is the primary system. And with the way game sharing works, if your system is a secondary for that account it will require you to have an internet connection to play the game. Hence why people are having problems where it is requiring a check in.
At least that's my best educated guess for that problem.

If you don't like the idea of using a jig to launch a cfw, which takes 4 seconds
you won't like ..., save your nand that takes more than an hour, and even less the restoration of your nand that will also take more than an hour, every time you want to use the online nintendo

On cfw ,switch dock in standby mode,Does not need to redo the tweak jig.

There will be no more secure than nand restoration, as long as an emunand on sd card exists.

I didnt ask how long it takes to save and restore a nand.

So I'm completely new here, and to the switch as a whole. I'm considering ordering one, but I wanted to ask a few things first:

I don't care to pirate games, like someone above said, I'm completely fine buying games. But what I do want to be able to do is edit saves, or otherwise cheat on offline. I just like having that option, should I choose to do it. IE: I have D3 on PC, and have invested many hours in it. I'd love to cheat to catch my switch char up to the same level, so I don't have to start fresh. That being said, also being able to run some emulators on it (I think I saw there's an SNES emulator) would be pretty cool as well.

I don't really care about online play at all, as far as I'm concerned the only thing I really want online for is to be able to update games and maybe the system itself if I need to.

I've been reading through some stuff on here, but I'm not 100% sure what resources I should be focused on for this goal, and what first steps I should take should I order a switch.

  • Is there any good list of resource to tell me where I should start as a complete and total switch hacking noob?
  • If I bought a switch today, will that switch actually be hackable to the point of doing what I'm after? Or is it pretty much only older models that are?

Thanks for any info!

First check to see if the serial number is patched or not according to this thread. Then you can follow this guide on how to setup one of the three available CFW on your unpatched Nintendo Switch.

I've gotten Atmosphere installed, and now I'm trying to use ChoiDujourNX to update to 6.0 but I can't seem to launch the app, it just starts and shuts down. I did some googling and it seems I need to "add debugmode=1 to my launch profile", but I have no idea how to do that. Any tips?

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
