Undertale creator Toby Fox releases new game called Deltarune

IMG_2110.PNG

As teased yesterday by Toby Fox, creator of the mega-hit indie game Undertale, his next project has been revealed as a game called Deltarune. The short game is a free download for Windows and OSX, and appears to be a working demo that is being used as a teaser, rather than a full experience. Its title, Deltarune, is also a reference to Undertale, being an anagram of the latter's name as well as the visuals sporting callbacks to certain moments from the 2015 game. Toby Fox claims that he wishes to begin a new game, and that this teaser was released to garner player feedback. On the download page, you can see "warnings" that tell the player to "refrain from discussion" until 24 hours have passed, and "accepting everything that will happen from now on". If you run the free game, it'll notably trigger Windows Defender, to which you'll have to disregard the message it gives you, and run it anyway. Right now it's not known what entirely this game is composed of, but if you're a fan of Undertale, it could be a fun Halloween treat.

* THERE MAY BE MOVING OR FLASHING IMAGERY.
* YOU MAY HAVE TO OVERRIDE SECURITY PROTOCOLS TO USE THE PROGRAM.
* FOR PUBLIC SAFETY, YOU ARE ADVISED TO REFRAIN FROM DISCUSSION OF THE PROGRAM FOR 24 HOURS.
* YOU ACCEPT EVERYTHING THAT WILL HAPPEN FROM NOW ON.

Toby Fox explicitly said it was a demo and subject to change in the full release.
Huh, guess I was wrong.
That explains version number 0.6.6.6.

Edit: I actually realised that the number is 666, and since it was halloween, this has nothing to do with version numbers.

I can't decide whether I liked this or Undertale better.
Speaking of, even though I completed Undertale I should have played it again, only with the peaceful ending...

You should.

Where did he say that exactly?

Just finished the demo, it was quite fun, and feels like a good upgrade from Undertale. Also, Ralsei is adorable. I'm looking forward to the full game, whenever that may be.

"Is this the game's final design? Will you change anything?"

It's possible I could change things. This is basically a demo. I might even change this first chapter before release depending on how development goes.

OH MY GOD I HATE THAT BOSS
Just make sure you repair the TOP CAKE and get some food from the shops (70HP is recommended).
Already did that
but the guy can take 70 HP from all my guys in a single turn sometimes, and when that happens twice in a row I'm pretty much screwed. The attack patterns are too haphazard for me to avoid.

And here's a linux build:
https://transfer.sh/E1goi/deltarune_linux2.tar

I exported a Linux binary from a blank GM:S project and a friend figured out where to move everything so it all works (which took more time than you'd think)
Some of the audio files still won't play as it can't find them, not sure what the issue is but if anyone figures out a way to get those to work let me know. That should all be fixed now, it was a simple uppercase/lowercase issue. Link updated.

Nothing you can do but git gud, I'm afraid. You don't need to perfectly dodge everything, but if you can get it to where attacks will generally hit you at most once, it's fairly easy to heal and keep doing damage/ACT.

Just played 80 minutes of it, got bored, unninstaled. It's more of the same and the jokes are not even funny.

@Psionic Roshambo i didn't go amd for one specific reason, the AI performance is way behind nvidia
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    i just got a 4070ti
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
oh yeah also DLSS is a pretty solid reason to go nvidia since fidelityfx is kinda crap
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and now with the rtx video upscaling, and sdr->hdr conversion, even more reason to go nvidia
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
both of which work well in potplayer
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
amd is a bit cheaper though
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Year not yard lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
