I have a donor console, the MESR-100 V2, and SMD tweezer clips on order. I'll let everyone know my findings (good or bad) as soon as I can.

Ok so I got my ESR meter and donor system (no power on issue). Turns out the donor system just had some corrosion on the power rails. So my donor system works now LOL.

So now I went back to my original system with the 160-1400 error. I think I’ve isolated it to a component in the trace to the DVD connector, but I have no idea what these are. The CM9 and CM10 components have 4pins and appear to have 2 paths/pairs thru them. My multi-meter tones in diode mode with both circuit pairs on CM10, but only the rightmost circuit pair on CM9. So the leftmost circuit pair on CM9 is the bad one (see 2nd pic).

Could these “CM” parts be “Common Mode Chokes/Noise Filters” to filter noise on the DVD lines? Is it safe to just run a jumper wire over it?

Top google result: https://eu.industrial.panasonic.com.../circuit-protection/common-mode-noise-filters
The wii u drive is made by panasonic.

Edit: It seems to be safe to bypass them but you would likely get a lot of noise. Did you check the continuity/voltage/amps? They seem to be just data lines but you never know, could be power too.

Thanks! I guess with the WiFi antennas and USB ports so close, these are pretty necessary. I'm fairly sure they are data lines since the drive does have power and will load/eject discs...just doesn't spin the disc and/or engage the laser.

I found the matching part(s) on Mouser that seem to match the package type. It's either the EXC-34CG900U or EXC-24CG900U since I measured the DC resistance with my Fluke multi-meter and they were about 1.6-2.2 ohms of resistance on each of the working circuits. I just have to get a caliper and measure the parts.
  • EXC-34CG900U (2.0mm x 1.25mm x 0.5mm; max 3 ohms DC resistance)
  • EXC-24CG900U (1.25mm x 1.0mm x 0.5mm; max 3 ohms DC resistance)
    • Note: I believe the Mouser website picture is wrong...see datasheet.

UPDATE:
I couldn't get caliper around the parts, so I had to just estimate with a US Standard ruler...sorry I used the 1/32" in the 1st pic and 1/64" in the 2nd pic. But this appears to be the dimensions of the EXC-24CG900U. Do you guys agree?

UPDATE2:
The CMC is the EXC-24CG900U.

I got the Common Mode Chokes/Filters from Mouser. Hopefully I'll have a chance to try the install this weekend. Wish me luck!

Hi all,

A quick message to say that the component (Q6) that i use to put freeze gaz on it to switch the console on, died completely, freeze gaz was not efficient anymore...

So i desoldered it and replace it with the same from another bricked wii u and it worked...but only 1 time after soldering it...(heat !)

So i though, heat from the soldering iron must have an effect (since cold had) so i just retouched the 3 pins with heat, and it worked, EVERYTIME...but i know it will not last (hopefully i've got another working wii u)

Is this right ? Which one i choose ? https://www.mouser.fr/Search/Refine.aspx?Keyword=2SD2656 please ?

Have a nice New year's eve all.

Cheers.
