TX Announces SX OS v2.2 BETA with Docked USB Drive Support

It's only been a week since Team-Xecuter made the big announcement of SX OS v2.1 with their 'cheat engine'

SXOS22.jpg

And now they are back and on a roll with them adding 'Docked USB Drive Support' and many other nice improvements to their 'cheat engine' and a few bug fixes! :)
How do you do, dear SX OS users?

Today we are back once again with a much anticipated new feature as well as various improvements to existing functionality for SX OS. While this is still labelled as BETA we've had some good success with it internally, we're looking forward to your feedback.

Lets jump into the list of changes!
  • Docked USB drive support!
Yes. You read it right. You can now plug a USB mass storage device into your switch' dock and load XCI or install NSP content from there directly. No longer are you limited by the size of your microSD card when playing the switch from the comfort of your couch, but you can now enjoy TERABYTES of content by using external harddisks and such! The filesystem on the drive needs to be either FAT32 or exFAT, and the directories that are being scanned for content are equal to the ones you'd use on the microSD card.
  • Updates to the cheat system
    • More accurate progress indication during cheat search
People were reporting "freezes" during cheat searches, often times these were just due to impatience and a suboptimal UI from our end. The progress bars are more honest and update more frequently now!
    • Cheat search for exact value requires no initial dump anymore
For 'exact value' searches a big initial dump file on your microSD is not needed, and since this is often the way people start a cheat search we decided to streamline the cheat finder process a bit. You are now prompted with a question whether you want to start an exact value search or arbitrary value search, in case of the former the process will be much faster.
    • Automatically apply/disable cheats upon toggle
The interface for "applying" the cheats was a bit counterintuitive, you now no longer have to press the plus (+) button in order to apply cheats. They are automatically applied/disabled once you toggle them. Disabling cheats now properly works as well, so there's no need for having a dummy cheat any more to work around that limitation.
    • Ability to add cheats using the UI
Identifying memory locations for cheats using just the console is nice, but previously there was no way of adding an actual cheat-code for a location you found to the cheat code library. This has been addressed, and there is now an interface for doing this directly from our menu.
  • Show homebrew NSP icons in TX menu
Some homebrew NSP titles were not displaying their icons properly. This has been investigated and fixed.
  • Fix error 2345-0021 when in docked mode opening TX menu
People who play/cheat in docked mode will like this fix. The frequent crashes that happened when opening the TX menu in docked mode are now a thing of the past!
That's it folks. Enjoy this BETA and let us know what you think. We have more tricks up our sleeves, more rabbits in our tophats. And we only have one gear: FORWARD.

Tested the setup while I’m outside.

Switch—-USB-C cable—Xiaomi ZMI10 QB820 powerbank with two USB ports —- connects a WB Passport Ultra Metal 2TB HDD

Don’t realize I already a “powered USB hub” when I was looking around for one. It’s built into the Xiaomi ZMI 10 QB820 powerbank that has USB powered hub built into the unit. Plus it’s powered by the power bank itself. Plus it’s charging capability (USB-PD) matches the original Nintendo AC wall charger itself.

Switch—Gulikit Route+ Bluetooth transceiver—USB-C cable—Ciaomi ZMI10 QB820 Powerbank with two USB ports — connects a WD Passport Ultra Metal 2TB HDD

This setup however does not work. I added the Gulikit Route+ Bluetooth USB-C transceiver in between the powerbank and the Switch, it shifted audio into “USB-audio” mode piped out as wireless Bluetooth (you can listen wirelessly using a variety of Bluetooth headphones, I’ve been using the Apple AirPods and the Plantronics Backbeat Pro SE. AirPods for the ultimate portability, and the Plantronics for the lag-free AptX Low Latency mode the headphones and the Route+ transceiver can talk to each other.). I can continue to charge but the scanning for USB-connected drives feature of SXOS2.2 does not detect the HDD. Looks like if another device is connected in between direct connect to the hub, it blocks the reading of the HDD.

Love the QB820 powerbank. It has this feature that disconnects any connected storage devices from “read mode” t “charge mode” only, with a tap of its power button on the side.

P/S: Already Ready with the image links, but the board blocks my links as spam so I had to resort to textual description like above. Sorry.

I think it has to be a primary partition, not a logical partition.
Also check if it is MBR or GPT (afaik, only MBR is supported).

I've just got a 1.5TB Seagate 2.5", put it in my PC, formated exfat w 512KB cluster then copied XCIs to its root. Works perfectly.

I've just figured out a way to safely unmount an external HDD
> Completely exit the running XCI or so.
> Put the Switch into sleep mode by pressing on the Power button
> The external HDD will turn itself off then power back on again and then turn itself of one more time.
> Unplug the cable.
> Press the Power button to wake the Switch up
> Mount another XCI from SD or so to play.

sorry to say but toshiba drives are terrible. You probably need a y cable to get that drive working.

edit: I see you plugged it in the back so now it's getting proper power.

Everyone who says they didn't need a Y cable will find out why they do when they burn out the USB port. Just because it works doesn't mean it's good.
I hope for their sake you're wrong. But I myself would not use a self powered hdd without a y cable.

I just use this and keep my switch docked. Is this a bad option? Seems to be working a-okay.

that might be even worse as you're using an hdd designed to be powered by a motherboard's sata cable.

I don't usually agree with posts like this - but in this case I think you might be correct.

These usb drives all draw different currents - depending on the drive. If they use too much, the traces on the dock circuit might heat up and burn out - however - I also think that Ninty would have thought about that when they added usb ports to the Dock, surely they are for connecting and powering usb devices such as drives, and if not they surely would have added a warning in the user manual. Most likely the dock has a thermal switch that will just cut out if too much current is drawn.

"Ninty woud have thought"... Ninty didn't think about all the other issues with the dock. ie. scratching the switch's screen. Building up heat causing warps and cracks on the switch and how easilyit can tip over. It's best to assume the worst and cover your asp.

Nope, the switch wasn't made to run external drives. Those ports are for charging controllers which don't draw as much current as a external hdd. I remember someone posting about people on discord burning out the ports. It's a $5 part that could save you from having to spend money to replace your dock. It's for sure with it.

But Ninty added a USB3 port on the back of the hub, why would they do that if they never had future plans for it? Surely they also need to follow some specification set by (USB-IF), the managing body of USB specifications.
