Hacking PS3 with 4.82. Still able to apply a CFW if my PS3 already downloaded the 4.83 OFW?

Hey People,

I want to try to use a CFW on my PS3 Slim (CECH-2504B, data code 0D, on 4.82). According to my "Date Code", the Console is compatible with CFW. The Tutorial here only says I have to update via USB Drive.
The problem is that my PS3 already downloaded the newer firmware, and the PS3 automatically redicts me to 4.83 without the choice of using the USB device as an update option.
Can I still use the hack if the PS3 downloaded 4.83?

Hold on, I think I misunderstood and that you were already in 4.83.
With 4.82 you should be able to install CFW, however the thing is bypassing the 4.83 update

I suppose you can just cancel it. Maybe safe mode is the way to go?

So the Update can be cancelled, but can't be deleted so easily. The PS3 will always choose it. Safe mode update is possible via USB, but since you have to do a hack via browser beforehand to edit your NAND or sth, I am unsure if the change will then be taken over to safe mode.

You have to trigger the exploit in the browser before hand, the console doesn't let you open your web browser unless you update?

Then you should have no problems toggling QA through the browser then booting into safe mode to install CFW.

Its a temporary thing, it allows you to downgrade/install CFW by disabling certain checks.

Ah, so it gets erased when you install the custom firmware, and not if you turn of the console (to acess safe mode, for example).

Its like a switch, if its on you can install CFW through safe mode.

If recovery mode tries to force you to installing 4.83 then you could try putting a blank hard disk in.

If other people are wondering if this works, I successfully installed a CFW! Just use the browser hack and install the CFW via safe mode
