I can't seem to find the fast forward option. On the Vita I think I had a GBA emulator that sped up when I held right on the right analog and it really came in handy for RPGs.
you can turn „threaded Video“ on in the video setting then it should work . But the stuttering with this option enabled is horrible even with NES games

Anyone have any luck getting Sega CD games to work? Its a toss up between PicoDrive just loading up the CD song player and just crashing my Switch when I try.

But not at all with PSX, ScummVM, or Sega CD games (hint, hint, poster above me, Sega CD needs bios files correctly named in the correct folder. Please use google (libretro picodrive sega cd bios), dont ask) need threaded Video to be enabled - for them to not stutter.

threaded video on shouldnt be a "bad" setting, except for when a certain core cant handle it (might even be switch specific behavior).

So threaded video is either "mostly excellent", or "mostly bad", depending on the core you are using - apparently. :) Just dont want the "mostly bad" "feel" to stick in peoples minds. :) Otherwise they never will get close to full speed PSX emulation.. ;)

I have the correctly named bios file, in the correctly named folder, using working games all copied from my SNES mini Retroarch installation.

Turn vsync on
Aha. :)

Found the culprit for the "threaded video makes me games stutter" meme. :)

So threaded video can be treated as a setting most people should enable by default, on all plattforms. If you get sound stutter on older systems - enable vsync.

That way you can also use retroarchs filters (which need the performance boost of threaded video.)

(Longform text version of m4xws posting. ;) )

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Gen Plus GX is prefered for all SEGA stuff as it Is way more accurate, the only reason to use picodrive is for 32x games.
Thank you. Dindt know. :)

Actually threaded video used to be the default (and is again on newer versions, unless its borked).
Theres no real downside, but since its only needed for a bunch of cores and RA's internal system is prefered I chose to disable it by default.

Probably also saves battery. Good to know. :)

Ill test it, give me as sec.

Will edit this posting.

edit: Yes - same issue here as well (couldnt load file with RA returning to main menu). Did work with the picodrive core on RetroNX. This is a regression. Should be fixed. Tested with both picodrive and Genesis GX (Used Snatcher (U)).

(I'm currently on the nightly from two days ago.)
(edit: Only tested gl driver.)

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I've tried both Pico and Gens Plus with multiple games (and loading multiple file types like bin or cue) with the emulator either entering the CD Player, crashing back to Retroarch frontend, or crashing the Switch itself and requiring a restart.

Sorry - let me row this back - didnt have bios files in /retroarch/cores/system (only used the new install for ScummVM), I'll retest. Give me a minute.

Sorry.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

False alarm. With bios files it works in both Genesis GX and Picodrive.

(Press Start, when the CD Bios loads)

(Using the nightly release from two days ago)

I have threaded video on already, and threaded audio. I can't find where the fast forward feature is. It's not in button mapping. I mean to speed up a GBA game as fast as the Switch can handle for boring parts. I think mGBA has it by default. Haven't tried the Switch build but it's not a Retroarch core anyway.

I don't know whats up then. I've tried the latest nightly build and it still crashes my Switch. I've tried other console games and they all work fine but Sega CD games are a no go which fucking sucks.

Edit: I've tried numerous games and the only one that has worked so far (and in both SCD emus) is Lunar 2 (US). Every other game has either crashed the Switch, loaded to the CD Player, or kicked me back to the Retroarch frontend (saying no content) and THEN sometimes randomly crash the Switch. The only difference between Lunar 2 and the rest of the games I've tried is that fact that the game is only a bin+cue file. The rest of the games include wav files or multiple bin files (loading via cue or the game bin produces the same results).

So does this only support loading games from the SD card? I can understand why USB support would be difficult but it'd be nice to see some sort of network storage support.

Retroarch has refused again and again to support any network loading on any platform. You need to be on a device that lets you map a network directory of whatever kind to your local file system or you are SOL.

Follow up post on my Sega CD issues:

I converted all the games to bin/cue from iso+wav or bin+wav. I did this after noticing the only game I could load was the only game in the bin/cue format. This appears to have worked as I can now load the rest of the games....sometimes. Now my issues is games will not boot 100% of the time. They will either load properly (no more CD Player menu! wooo), kick me back to Retroarch with a no content error, or softcrash Retroarch. The softcrash is an improvement (and never happened before I converted the games) as I do not have to reload SXOS every frickin' time. What I did notice is that loading up the PicoDrive core from the main menu, then loading the cue file for the game, and selecting the PicoDrive core again seems to increase the likelihood of the game booting. *shrugs* I'll take it.

I've got a problem regarding saves, I'm trying to transfer my Pokémon Crystal Clear save to other devices, I tried to use it on RetroArch Android, RetroArch 3DS and in an injected 3DS VC cia, it crashes on my Android, Freezes on Retroarch 3DS and I get a corrupted save message on the CIA, anyone has a clue?
Also it opens fine on PKHeX and back into RetroArch Switch.

i use Genesisgx and it works purrrfect but I had to convert any games with multiple bin files to one bin file hope this helps and i don't have to switch between pico or gx i just use gx and everything works

I've always used PicoDrive for my Sega CD needs on various Retroarch installs and had zero issues related to it. For some reason the Switch is not kind to Sega CD games for either emulators thus me having to bin/cue all the games. I can get the games to load on the first or second try now, usually. The games are saving properly and save states work. No crashing after a game properly loads either so I'm fairly happy with the setup now. My SNES Mini and USB hub are now going to collect dust.
