Hardware 3ds crashes during boot or on home menu. ( No CFW )

Hi everyone!

I've got a faulty 3ds from a family member which doesn't work at all.
The 3ds crashes on boot or crashes on the home menu screen.
If the 3ds does actually manage to go to the home menu screen, the upper screen shows glitching graphics before it crashes. Does anyone know what the problem would be and how to fix it??

It's a stock 3ds, so no hacks installed whatsoever.
When I press on a button to start a game, it shows the 3ds splash screen without any visual glitches, but it still crashes before a game actually starts.
