So I'm making an app, and its going to have theming capability when ready, but for now I want to build it with 2 core themes that mirror the 3ds default home menu theme and the basic/simple black theme.

The issue I'm having is getting actual useable images (such as the top screen bg). I have managed to get my hands on a body_LZ.bin for the dark theme, but even though the various theme editors can load it (Usagi can preview it), I can't get them to export the images.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I don't think the default themes have assets in the same sense as non-default ones do. It's as if some of the source elements are generated by the home menu itself rather than the processing of data / assets stored in a body_LZ.bin file - and complicated further by virtue of them being 'preinstalled' in NAND rather than stored on SD.

I do know that source images required for the top screens of a 'simple' theme are two small tiles (rather than a larger 512x256 png) that get processed to create the scrolling-layer-over-the-static-layer effect, though - or at least that's what I gathered from exporting images from a regular non-default theme.

Individuals involved in the development of a 3DS theme creation tool would probably have helpful answers / understanding.

Thankyou for the response. I've managed to get by, by extracting assets from screenshots of the home menu.
