if you update fuseless, as soon as you boot OFW to play online, the fuses will be blown

Wait...with how buggy SXOS is in and of itself, not to mention when using homebrew, I get hard system crashes all the time. When that happens, the system always reboots into OFW.

Doesn't that mean if you update your CFW fuseless, any one crash will lead to burned fuses?

You are supposed to enable autorcm AFAIK. It wont boot then.

Ok guys some questions of what to do in case of a CDN ban.

First of all, whenever I want to isntall the update of a game I already have, do I have to download the full game again (this time updated) as .xci?

Second. I see that in order to install updates using ChoiDujour, I need to use AutoRCM. I'm really, really afraid of AutoRCM as both times I've used it it hasn't worked properly so... Is there any way to install updates without it? Why should I care about burnt fuses?

I'm using 6.0 btw.

You download the updates in .NSP format and install them using a title installer such as Rommenu (built into SX OS and downloadable separately as an NSP), DevMenu (copyrighted Nintendo application), Tinfoil (highly recommended homebrew), or dOPUS (a combination of Tinfoil & 4NXCI).

For firmware updates, you can install them with ChoiDujour/ChoiDujourNX (the former is an exe while the latter is a homebrew app). Also there is absolutely no reason to be afraid of AutoRCM and it is in fact more useful than not as it can save you some wear and tear on your pins. If the pins become permanently damaged, you will have to buy a new Switch or replace them manually. As for fuses, these are used for downgrade prevention so if they are not burnt, you can load lower firmwares without using RCM and bypassing the fuse check.

Ok, bored and no SX OS 2.1 yet. I tried 2.0 and it was horribly buggy, so not going to do that for now.

I'm either going to use my "iffy" 6.0 Switch and play online using a legit xci backup with SX OS 1.9, or upgrade my (almost) totally virgin Switch to 6.0, keeping fuse count at 6 and AutoRCM installed (so I'll be looking at a way to get hekate to boot straight into OFW). If there's a specific scenario you want tested, let me know, I might do it as long as I'm no more than slightly uncomfortable doing it (installing legit xci as nsp, maybe...anything mentioning devmenu, I'm not THAT stupid!).

I'm testing XCI loading only and updates over OFW only.... you could test NSP only? (although I'm more than sure NSP leads to ban almost instantly) you could test NSP Rightless (Ticketless and certless) only!

Are you using SX OS 2.0 or 1.9? That's exactly what I did in 5.1.0 (load xci and play online, but install updates in OFW).

If I tried nsp, it'd be the ones that supposedly look like a cart (I'd convert my legit xci backups). No way I'll install an obviously non-legit nsp on a Switch I plan to take online, that's one step below using devmenu and clearing logs. Only willing to test something we're not already 50% sure will cause a ban.

Using 1.9, 2.0 crashes a lot for me.

Is it known if there's an increased been risk of using Homebrew nsp's (like retroarch) vs running Homebrew from the Homebrew launcher?
There have been plenty of people not banned for using homebrew .NSP files despite going online with them installed. Additionally, there are an increased numbers of users who were banned for using homebrew only on firmware 6.0 without touching .NSP files. So as strange as it sounds, the data suggests that homebrew .NSP files are safer than homebrew .NRO files

it can save you some wear and tear on your pins. If the pins become permanently damaged, you will have to buy a new Switch or replace them manually.

If you're using a Jig, with pins the same height as the right joycon pins are, nothing should happen to the switchs pins. That would mean you should watch out for attaching and detaching the joycons not too often.
Is the banrisk not even higher with AutoCRM enabled?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

What's so buggy for you? I use it on 3 Switches and it works like a charm.

I had lots of problems on 2.0 (EmuNand) on various games. They just freezed every now and then.
Now on 2.0.1 all games that I've tried since yesterday work like a charm. I even feels like they load faster, but this might just be subjective.

Yes however there's no evidence to point that Nintendo are detecting AutoRCM otherwise people would be banned for just having it installed. I also have a paperclip as I'm too cheap to afford a jig but I've managed to avoid permanent damage to my pins...for now.

Additional Comments:
I initially used SX OS. Always remained offline in CFW, and only went online in OFW to update XCI backups (I always deleted my internet settings afterwards). After using SX OS for about three months (not banned), I switched to ReiNX because I kept having errors every now and then. Because I only use NSPs now, I don't update them in OFW. Last week, the Overcooked 2 DLC came out (a game I bought from the eShop) so I hoped I was not banned to buy the DLC and fortunately I wasn't (connected to the eShop in OFW). A day later I checked again and still had access (bought Stardew Valley from the eShop). Since then I remained offline and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm still expecting a ban to be handed out sooner or later though, otherwise I would never have tried to run CFW if online was that important to me.

I've now included an FAQ section seeing as how I don't directly answer a lot of the most common banning-related questions in one tab for noobs to peruse. Feel free to suggest any questions that should go in there!
