I guess I should clarify my views here. From a licensing standpoint, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the existence of this. However, I indeed would've much preferred it to have been treated as a pull request rather than being spun off into its own project. This is something I've very much been interested in for some time, and am more than happy to collaborate with someone wanting to take care of Tinfoil's UI issues. As it stands though, I do tend to agree with blawar's assessment that it does mean I'm probably going to be competing with myself :/
You could of also seen it from this point of view, yours is still a wip his is a release so maybe he preferred to release his project than sitting on it because it was finished and there’s nothing wrong in that. Also nothing wrong with a bit of competition.

And people wonder why there are few good developers / quality software in the switch scene. Keep on keeping on, this thread is making me want to shut my switch projects down.

I do like your GUI as far as homebrew goes, you clearly put some work into it. However don't you think this is pretty shitty thing to do to tinfoil? Adubbz is clearly working on a GUI as you can see from the files in the repo you copied, and you are forcing him to compete with himself now. He is trying to write USB installation code, that you will no doubt turn around and merge into your project. Why should he not stop working on that, and focus on his GUI instead (and the scene loses out on USB installation)?

Functionally, your project didn't improve upon anything, it is effectively just a GUI wrapper around tinfoil (and 4nxci).

Perhaps Adubbz does not care, I do not know. I just see it as a low blow, and I do not believe the scene should support or encourage this behavior, as the scene loses in the long run when developers lose interest in improving their applications.

Ease up on the toxicity, and all that negative energy you're generating by coming in here and immediately arguing a point that not only is moot, seeing as it was a OS github project with fork access, thus is being utilized, modified, and/or enhanced by other devs with ideas as intended, but on top of that the original project's creator hasn't even expressed any particular concerns about someone forking tinfoil and wrapping it and 4NXCI in some new threads with a more functionally effective UI anyways. So why are you even taking the time to presume anyone but you even cares?

He's done no one wrong, and he's done the community and Adubbz a service. I also get so sick of seeing uppity key crusaders jump into threads and creatively find ways to cast negativity by pointing out nonsense that no one would have otherwise even noticed, just to invoke melodrama from other toxins that will no doubt start in as well the minute they catch sight of someone's blunder to exploit or a conflict to over-aggravate. All the politics among the various dev groups and it's supporters, to make known who's "side" you're on is getting pretty tiresome. It's petty and counterproductive.

Let the scene and its community thrive, let the influx of up and coming developers contribute and add in their well thought of additions or combine previously released HB tools into better UI and neater code where as it is practical to do so. As long as proper crediting is mentioned and the projects being used are opensource, It's a win for all of us. Not to mention some of the various scenes has seen some of their greatest works and collab pieces from scenarios that started out exactly like this. Community devs forking, adding additional functionality, wrappers, button functions, combined projects, etc. So just.... relax. Give the man credit where credit is due, tip your hat and carry on. =/

Nice post count, I feel honored you registered / created a throwaway. I'm not even in a group, so I am not sure what you are referring to. I sound like a broken record, but people keep saying this helps the scene. This does not help the scene, in the long run it drives out / discourages good developers.

This thread already has one causality, I am never posting any switch source again, and probably will never release any free switch apps again, even in binary form. Enjoy your re-skinned tinfoil :yay:

you are very good at giving lessons, but your app DZ is indeed based on tinfoil as well. https://github.com/blawar/nut/blob/master/dz/README.md
What a twat. Seriously you made my day.

There is zero Tinfoil code in DZ, there is none of anyone's code in DZ except libnx and a random json library. Had you actually read the DZ thread, you would know it does not contain any GPL code. That was a nice attempt at a burn though :)

I initially wanted to do PR's to tinfoil, however there were some fundamental disagreements and limitations within tinfoil that could not be reconciled, so rather than fork and change, I just wrote everything from scratch. And then I focused on the network install portion. It is meant to be the front end to another project of mine that adubbz could not accommodate with tinfoil. And more importantly, I spoke with Adubbz about it several times.

I put in work, and innovate. Your app has no innovation, you took existing projects, glued them together, and screwed tinfoil in the process.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I used zero of anyone's code, I credited Adubbz, Scires, etc all out of respect for the work they did that brought the scene to the point where it is. There is zero GPL code in DZ, which is how I am able to keep it closed source. DZ was open sourced for about a month, and everyone that saw it knew it contained no scene code. I wrote everything.

Burn lol

Cool cool bro. I love dz by the way. I prefer installing over network than from sdcard

what’s the difference? I could rewrite the whole code, it would be the same. I just didn’t see any value on doing so. It’s easier and more productive to just reuse what tinfoil has done (and is great) and push things forward.
I think you are a very toxic guy, bored enough to bother other people online.
Won’t answer your stupid remarks from now on.
Some people enjoy dramas, and some others don’t care :)

@HiD Could you add an option to just delete a file? I missclicked on [A] Install, so I had to use NX-Shell to delete the NSP.

Yeah i’ll do that. Thanks for the feedback.
I want to add after this stupid kid’s drama (blawar) that I’m very open to have a chat with Adubbz if he wants to. As I said before it’s a pet project i’m making for myself, and I’m sharing it for the sake of sharing, even if I don’t have to.

Why should he come to you? You rudely forked his project, you should contact him.

There is nothing rude about forking an open source project (lol!). Grow up dude! But I said I wouldn’t answer to you anymore, and here I am xD

There is a right way and a wrong way to fork a project. You can google it if you like, the etiquette is well documented with a general consensus among the open source community. What you did was solidly in the "wrong way to fork a project" category.

yes, it extracts the NCAs during the installation process. It would be wise to make sure you have at least double the space the game needs on your sd card prior to installing the game. I really like how you can watch the SD card remaining space tick down in real time as a game is installing. I've never seen an app do that before. It's the little things!

HiD thank you for making this app, I will continue to follow it's progress. Sucks that you're getting wrapped up in the politics of the scene, and I won't comment on that, but of all the apps I've tried recently, this one has been the most helpful for my quality of life since it removes the need to convert XCI's. FWIW, I did try Team 2168's ZeroTwoXCI installer first (which is a fork of Tinfoil also) and I kept getting errors, while yours worked with no issues

I'd assume so. it still needs to copy the file. it can't do that if it's not there

oh ok, i thought it was like on the PSVITA, that moves the game files to the place where i needs to be so it doesn't need double the space to install
in that case, XCI games is still the better one for me
