Hi. I recently found my Nintendo 3DS which was sitting in my draw for a long while.

I decided that I wanted to Homebrew it and install a CFW on it, especially because it’s still on an older firmware.

On first attempt, I install Homebrew using the sound app, then ran udsploit and safehax. They both ran fine, but after this Homebrew didn’t launch and gave me fatal errors. So using the CFW (boot loader thing), I used GodMode (by holding down Select or Start at boot) and reset everything back to defaults and started again.

Now I’m trying to restart. I have installed Homebrew, used udsploit and now when trying to run safehax, I get “unsupported firmware”, even though I’m still on a supported version and haven’t updated. I also can’t try to reset to defaults again as the custom boot loader isn’t on the 3DS anymore.

I’ve tried resetting the 3DS through stock settings but that didn’t help. I’ve also tried fully formatting the SD card, which also didn’t work.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Now when you say you restarted, do you mean you uninstalled boot9strap? Have you already tried holding Select while turning on your system? Maybe it was never unhacked and you still have CFW.

By the way, uninstalling CFW is almost never the solution...

Worst case scenario, you can update to 11.8 and do the Frogminer exploit, but this is assuming you really don't have CFW afterall.

Hi. Thank you for replying!

I believe I did uninstall boot9strap. I used a GodMode option (I forgot what it was called, it was called “NAND Reset” or something) which basically removed the option to holds Select on boot up (I’m guessing that option is only available with the custom boot loader)?

I just tried doing it again by holding Select but nothing happened, it just booted like normal. So it’s most definitely gone.

Is it harder or easier to go to 1.18? I heard this is the easiest version to do this on so if I could prevent updating and maybe fix the issue it would be great.

Did you follow https://3ds.hacks.guide/homebrew-launcher-(soundhax) ?
Try following the above guide exactly one more time. Maybe also try an older build of safehax:
https://github.com/TiniVi/safehax/releases/tag/r19

If it fails… Everything worked on your first attempt, so if safehax really does not work anymore while you’re doing the same, something on the NAND has been changed.

Frogminer takes a little more time. It should work. I’m uncertain and precautious (maybe even paranoid) and do not have enough knowledge to decide whether there is something ‘bad’ on your NAND. Because updating is a one-way road, my advise is: wait a little. Hopefully somebody with more knowledge will reply. But you have to decide for yourself. Here is everything you need to use Frogminer:

As for the uninstalling; it’s obviously too late for now. For the next time: I agree with CrispyYoshi. Uninstalling CFW is almost always a bad idea. It’s like leaving the house and shutting the door without taking the keys with you. Whatever issues you had in the first place, deleting the tools that could fix them is not helpful. There’s an excellent article about that (written by Lilith Valentine):

Hi

I updated to the latest firmware version. I followed the Steelminer guide, then Frogminer after it.

Unfortunately, the same issue occurs after installing the boot loader. Every time I try to launch Homebrew through SubWars, I get a crash dump. This doesn't occur UNTIL I install the boot loader.

I will include the crash dump log below.

You do not need SubWars anymore. I believe these *hax entry points do not work while running Luma. All you need is here:

https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup

After completing this, you will have the Homebrew Launcher Loader, FBI and more in your home menu and can start it like any other game.
