issues with drives not initializing are usually due to the drive not getting enough power. Does your drive have it's own source or is it a portable drive? If it's a portable drive you need a y-cable for supplementary power. Also if you already have this setup instead of plugin both usb plugs into the wiiu, try pluggin the data cable into the top back slot of the wiiu and the supplementary power cable into an external power source such as a computer usb port or even a wall usb power adapter. I had to do this for my setup with 2 different brands of portable HDD's

He has a y cable, we've been talking about it the entire thread. But plugging the other end to the wall or computer could work.

That's what I have to do with both my drives and for both the WIIU drive and the Vwii drive. otherwise they don't work. Also One other strategy for vwii is setting up the supplementary power cable to wall adapter/computer usb port and leaving the data plug unconnected until after you run usbloadergx then after usbloadergx runs it will say "waiting for hdd" or something similar and at that point plug in the data cable and it should initialize. I use to have to do this last step for my vWii drive to work but after a while I just plugged it in from the start and it would work. There's definitely issues with power for portable hdd's.

Well dunno how its get the other end of the cable into a wall or PC when the cable is like 2 feet long and my PC is on the other side of the room lol

We're not here to hold your hand, we can only give you advice on things to try.

A Wii U is a small console you could unplug it and put it near your computer just to try it that way you know that it was your problem or not.

You're right that would be the sensible option. Only issue would be getting the cords out of and then back into my entertainment center IF that doesnt work. That's a bit too much of a hassle for something that might not work. Now if it were a guaranteed solution then by all means. I'd do what was necessary.

My thinking is this. I'm using a portable hard drive. The same kind everyone else uses on their wii u when ppl found out you needed a Y cable to power it. Now if everyone elses drive are powered just fine with the two cables plugged into the back of the wii and the wii alone. What makes my hdd any different?

Also the other thing that causes question is if my Y cable, or hard drive werent compatible or giving enough power. WHy dos the Wii U withe the hard drive and cable plugged in detect the hard drive and ask me to format it? I mean if the Wii U detects it and the cable gives it enough power to do so surely the VWii and usbloader gx should right? I men can anyone confirm that the Wii U has lower power requirements that the vWii using USB loader GX?

I gave you the solution. in your case you need the usb extension cable as well or get and extension cord for the usb power adapter. I told you I had exact same problem and that's how i fixed it. It's up to you on what to do now.

Any advise is good advise, you said you had the same issue as the OP, but did your WiiU detect the drive asking you to format it before you connected the sup power to an external power source? before booting into vWii mode?

not because 1. I used ustealth. and 2. originally I had to run usbloadergx with the hdd disconnected and after usbloader gx says "waiting on hdd" is when I would connect it and it would initialize. I already said this on this thread. he should try all possible solutions given at this point. It's up to him.

Thanks for the added info :)

As for OP, there you go, you have a few things you need to try, only troubleshooting will get you somewhere, good luck.

well i just tried plugging it in once USB loader gx says waiting for HD.. no luck.. and I tried using my PS4 to power it (since its right next to it) still nothing. Btw check out the cable i have listed in the link.. it says its a Y cable but it doesnt look like the one everyone else uses.... one person (the developers of the cable who speak bad English) in the reviews says its not compatible with Wii U (yet i it wasn't my wii u wouldnt detect my HDD and tell me to format it right?) yet another one of the buys reviews it and says it is.

Sooo it would rreaalllyy be nice if someone could check it out. I would much rather hear its the cable that the problem and not the HDD.

Also although the cable I have doesnt look like the usual ones I notice if i plug it into the wii u one way you hear the HDD beep while it tries to spin and stops, whereas if i switch the cables around then it spins fine and that beeping doesnt happen, which leads me to think that just like a Y cable one of the plugs is a data cable the other is power which is the same way a traditional Y cable works sooo id think theyre the same things right?

ok so so far I tried a flash drive (that woks on my normal wii) still nothing. I tried ANOTHER portable external (the kind that doesnt have a power cord) it also has the same issue. I seriously doubt all my drives are incompatible. The only two steps left are a different Y cable (which I should be receiving in the next 2 hours) then a powered USB drive. (which unfortunatly I cant seem to find an low capacity cheap ones lol)

ok so after figuring out how to use an injector myself I injected one of my lowest capacity Wii games onto WiiU using CFW, installed it on the same 1tb usb portable HDD (the one thats using a Y cable) that didnt work on USB Loader GX in Wii mode, and the game work just fine on that HDD when injected on the WiiU home screen, thus I assume all my other games will work as well so Im in the extremely long and excruciating process of injecting them all

Poor thing, you have to hit a few clicks on your computer then go do anything else while it finishes. I'm not sure you'll survive.

I said long.. i didnt say difficult. You mean "I gotta hit a few clicks on my computer then dont do anything important because you gotta come back every 5-15 mins to do the next one" thats tedious. If I could put all 40 games in the injector at once and let em take as long as they need to while I went out and did other things then Id be ok with it (cause I DO have other things I need to get done and its gonna take longer than 5-15 min increments to do em).

Also unless Wii injector require vWii to be hacked, lets not forget to mention the time I took hacking vWii for nothing since in the end I couldnt use it

I also have 12 more titles I cant inject because there are no banners and icons for them (yes Ive been to the banner/icon request topic)
