Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has surpassed sales expectations in all regions

Xenoblade Chronicles is a series with humble origins, starting with a release on the Nintendo Wii, which seemed to just barely get enough attention to warrant a localization, and even a 3DS port years later. Then, we saw a niche entry into the series on the Wii U with Xenoblade Chronicles X, trying out new elements, but not given the platform to reach wide appeal. The latest game, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, appears to have been a hit in all territories, according to a comment from the executive producer at development studio Monolith Soft. In an interview with US Gamer, Tetsuya Takahashi said that both Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and it’s DLC expansion, Torna: The Golden Country, have both exceeded sales expectations in not only its home country of Japan, but in North America and Europe as well. At the end of the interview, he teases that the series might one day have a third numbered entry, going “down a path [the franchise] hasn’t gone down before”.

From a sales perspective, I have to say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 exceeded my expectations…We really saw more people pick the game up and experience it in the North American and European territories than we thought would do so...It's still early days for the Torna DLC, but from what we've seen in Japan, the sales of the Torna DLC are exceeding our expectations as well.

I'm someone who gets bored of whatever it was I did last. If the Xenoblade Chronicles series continues, you just might see it take a third option. It might go down a path it hasn't gone down before.

Good to see it's become so popular! Hopefully the translations for any future games in the series will be more faithful though.
Yes, but I am not sure what part of the "faithful" annoys people.
For me, slight changes in names that make perfect sense (e.g. Homura -> Pyra) are not only fine but better.
On the other hand trying to bend some references and obscuring the original meaning (like changing Rakuen/Paradise -> Elysium, or Ten no Seihai/Holy Grail -> Aegis) doesn't suit my taste.

I will try this game, but in a couple of youtube videos i watched to see what it is about, as one of my friends is shitting his pants with it, i noticed that during fights the characters do not stop speaking/shouting at all. I almost had a headache in the few minutes that i watched. Is this indeed a ball breaker or is it ok you think?
It is annoying, but I wouldn't say it is a ball breaker because... you can mute the screaming.

Wait, what?
Yeah, it is so annoying that I ended up muting it. (at least you can set the screaming slider down to zero in the options, what can I say... don't forget me? /s)

i expected way more of xenoblade chronicles 2 so i was quite letdown by it. Xenoblade chronicles X is def the best of the whole series for me personally and i expected their next game to go more down the path of xenoblade chronicles X. Wasn't a bad game bujt was just not as good as the previous ones for me

Yeah. I expected XB2 to take the best out of XB1 and X but they ended up scaling a lot stuff down and doing something else entirely. Here is to hope Xenoblade X2 will be great. They have like the best set-up from XBX to tell a very interesting story.

I have no problem with name changes, although I do like seeing the original names. I'm with you on them changing references, that frustrates me a bit. My main beef is when they change stuff to avoid controversy, like Tora's... questionable practices. It's understandable, but I still find it to be annoying. Guess it's on me to learn Japanese though, haha.

I'm really glad this game is doing great I'm currently 160+ hours in and about to go New game + now. really has a lot of content. Fan service in any case was ok for me. But I was hoping for more Male Blades if possible.

Kinda wondering just how the expectations of people work these days. I admit I'm a fan of the game and It's not perfect but the support for this game was among the best of the series. Especially since I was disappointed in Xenoblade chronicles X. I bought the game but bearly played it cause the font size was too small to keep me engaged. It was a constant problem and everyone left miiverse comments to get it pactched. But it never happened. Now it's just "I don't know if the game is good or bad" cause I have no interest in playing it since it feels like it was just made as a experiment rather than a game with support. (I suppose if they did port it to switch and fix the problems people complained about, it would help)

This game felt more like they wanted to care for it cause of all the patches it got, the DLC season pass and how much attention they gave. The comments of anime being the inspiration of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 may have been obvious, but now plenty of people are disappointed about the plot and combat. I think is improved. Feels better than having to main shulk for his required Manondo the only way of dealing with most battles the rest of the team can't do on their own in most cases.. The only thing I hate about the game is the blade core crystals being a lottery system and field skills. Other than that is the feeling left from the cohesiveness of the DLC.

Maybe it's my fault I didn't felt everything connect when I played the game for the story. Or maybe I was too busy enjoying a game with a world full of interesting things like Terraforming on huge living titan's backs, Drivers & Blades being a form of partnership,"Blades" aren't just a boring weapon that looks unique, it's also a person. I don't even like Sci Fi as much but still enjoyed the series. Again, is not perfect, there is some things to dislike about it but for someone who isn't a fan of RPG genre or usually dislike many of them, I found this one least playable for me which is something I don't give credit for if done poorly.

The game has fanservice? What, you mean the character designs or the anime tropes? I thought people liked anime, maybe not everyone but there is a lot more people who like it than not. Also perhaps the design of some characters came off as a shock to some for a Nintendo published game but perhaps it was to appeal to some other playerbase. Not gonna accuse them of using fan service, it's a huge complaint about it everytime the word gets used that I don't want to get involved in. At the end of the day, they did support this game far more than the previous ones and I appreciate that and they also seem to be happy about the sales for the game with this as well.

If there was anything I ask for is always make sure the Font is BIG ENOUGH TO READ ON A TV SCREEN WHEN SITTING A FEW FEET AWAY (xenoblade chronicles X) And the next game to not have anything like core crystal lottery system or field skills. It heavily discouraged exploration cause you may not have the proper blades to use field skills as well as getting them from a luck system (which you can't use without saving to prevent "Save scum") making it a poor choice to extend the playtime.

But you don't have to main Shulk. If you are a different party member you can just walk up to shulk and tell him what move to use to react to a Vision. This works for any party member in fact.

The game has fanservice? What, you mean the character designs or the anime tropes?
Both. Having Hotspring scenes, obligatory Tsundere Characters getting mad at protagonist for dumb shit, bland waifu-bait characterization, Shouting the name of the signature attack and tasteless character designs isn't shocking. It's just distracting to anyone who doesn't like those Anime Tropes and it would be half as bad if the story was interesting in the more tropey half but it isn't. I played the entire game and I don't believe Dromarch even has a single character trait that's how little work they put in one of the first playable Blades.

I do agree though that Xenoblade X desperately needed patching. The UI in general is just bloated with information, using very tiny font, not having any Sound sliders resulting in a lot of voice acting being too silent for the loud music. At least the combat was still fun and didn't require RNG to customize your character the way you wished.

Perhaps, but it felt easier to me to just use shulk, it felt more in control of things when I needed to. For example in xenoblade chronicles 2, using the blade combos isn't easy since the game requires specific blades of a element to complete. If you yourself had the 3 potential elements, it's easier for me to pull one off any time instead of relying on the other team members. (Apparently before a update, it would just auto focus on blade combos which was useful but after a patch, that doesn't happen as often making a bit harder than before.) It wouldn't be so bad if the main game's combo system was changed to the DLC one where you don't need to do specific elements to get the orbs on the enemy. I find that a good change and hope this DLC is a experiment to improve the main game or future ones.

Having Hotspring scenes,
There was a hot spring scene? I don't remember this part.
obligatory Tsundere Characters getting mad at protagonist for dumb shit
Call it obligatory if you want but it's known as slapstick humor which is common in all cultures for various reasons. No is not for everyone and that's fine.
bland waifu-bait characterization
I am not sure what you mean by this but since you used the term "waifu" which itself is a word that gets used often in less serious conversations, okay. But also bland is objective so I can't really say much about it, is just a opinion.
Shouting the name of the signature attack
Lots of games do that and you can just turn it off by turning the battle voices down in the sound settings of the game if it's annoying.
tasteless character designs isn't shocking
Subjective, so I can't comment on this since it's your opinion which is okay.

My comments wasn't to upset anyone, you're opinions are how you feel about a thing and if you don't like it then it's simply that. I won't convince anyone to like it but help them understand perspective. Not trying to say how you feel about it is any way bad. I just wanted to perhaps make it apparent what the game tried to accomplish, and that is unless you like anime for it's tropes, you may not enjoy this game for how it presents itself which is the whole idea. Anime is very popular and I think it worked for them considering this article and maybe even try it again in future, who knows. Unless that one article about them wanting to make a mature edgy themed game is true, lol :P

I don't think it was one of the greatest or most unique game or how they choose to implement it's inspiration, but it's not easy to be unique in a world where people are easily disappointed about someone's choices of inspiration for creating new content that doesn't come off as a attempt to clone popular games or their ideas. It's easy to be disappointed in new things cause people have already existing content to compare it to and say one is so alike another, or they changed something that wasn't necessary or borrow ideas from popular games. Not to mention that a first impression is hard to shake since it's something people are tied to which is another thing on it's own. But it's good that there is plenty of people making games that you would enjoy even if this one isn't one of them. The only loss here maybe your time and money spent on it that can't be recovered which is fully understandable. :(

While Xenoblade 2 didn't meet some people's expectations, I'd say it did pretty well with what they had during development. Iirc, around the start of development, Monolith Soft's development team was split apart with one team, which had a lot of people, helping out Nintendo with Breath of the Wild because of their experience with open world on Xenoblade X and the other, a much smaller team, working on Xenoblade 2. The smaller team obviously couldn't finish the game all by themselves and had to outsource plenty of things like characters and models and then the team had to modify them slightly to fit into the game.

Anyway, with the Torna DLC, they're moving forward with a bigger team now that BOTW is completely done. I mean, the DLC uses a completely new engine and renders out the game significantly better than even the main game itself along with other improvements. While that won't change the main game, I'm still looking forward to what they come up next in the future for the next installment to the series or a completely new IP.

i feel like ive missed the fanservice part of the game everyone keeps talking about. where was it maybe ive grown a mental block to it or something since ive never viewed video game characters as people and as such things like fanservice in games are like skimpy clothes on a barbie doll, in the end pointless and better things can be googled.

hold up do you mean cliches? like usual anime stuff that you find in nearly any anime game/jrpg. cause thats sorta part of gaming/anime culture as a whole and if your taking the game so seriously that you just cant laugh it off thats sorta sad or youve played so many game with them that youve grown tired of them to the point you cant just ignore them, which is also sad.
