I'm still confused about bans.

Since bans are now upgraded to superbans what features will be restricted?

I mean, I don't really care but sometimes I'm too lazy to browse "those sites" to grab updates.

I have a download code for the eShop but I'm on 4.1. My switch has never been modded and I'm trying to keep it that way until a proper emunand is released. Is there any way to download the game without setting up my console for a future ban?

I just purchased Octopath traveler. I know it needs 5.0 to play so my next question is what will I loose out if I upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0 (I'm guessing warmboot and dejavu exploit?), and again is there any way to do this without setting up my console for a ban if I go online in the future?

Whatever you read was incorrect; ReiNX supports all unpatched Switch units because it relies on a hardware exploit not a software one. The best firmware for CFW is currently 5.1 however lower firmwares work just as well. There are currently hacks that do not work on firmware 6.0 such as DevMenu and custom themes so unless you plan on playing online, there is absolutely no reason to update to firmware 6.0. If you wish to update to a different firmware that is not 6.0, you can use the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX.
Define "safe". If you mean from a bricking perspective, it is safe. If you mean from a banning perspective, all CFW carry a risk of getting banned. Not sure what you mean by "wait" since the exploit we have currently works on all unpatched Switch units like the one you have currently and there are no signs of a new exploit coming out anytime soon.

A dongle is used to send payloads in place of a computer or phone because to load any type of CFW, you must send a payload via USB connection. Dongles make it easier to load CFW on the go.
Well yeah by safe I meant from “getting bricked”, also about getting a warmboot? What does that mean on the switch? I don’t mind about getting banned or anything like that. I wanted to use my second switch just for mods and things like that.

I guess I can see if I can get a cheap dongle or something in case I’m not close to my Pc.

Do themes and changing the boot up screen work on version 3.0.0 of my switch? Or would it be worth updating after I hack it to a more better update? I do have physical games, wondering if I can play those on my second switch.

Update without burning fuse. That way you can revert in the future back to 4.1 if needed

I have SX OS and want to use EmuNand on the new 2.0 update.

I made a clean backup of my Nand on firmware 4.1 before any modifications. I updated to 5.1 (fuses were burnt) and forgot to make another Nand backup on this firmware.

Can I restore my Nand backup that I did from 4.1 using RCM mode and Hekete and then update my system to 6.0 and then create a new clean Nand backup from there, then re-mod my switch with Emunand?

I also had about 12 games (all bought) that I backed up on the switch as well, am I able to restore them to my SD card after I create the EmuNand? Just don't want to go through the hassle of re-creating the backups again = /

Thanks.

Warmboot is confirmed up to 4.1 however there is no currently estimated window on when it will be available. There is a new Switch revision supposedly works named Mariko which is likely when this warmboot will see the light of day but currently there is no evidence of that either. The benefit of this warmboot is that it doesn't involve a jig and USB cable so it involves less hardware in order to load CFW/hacks. If you're holding out for warmboot but want to update your firmware, I highly recommend you check out the homebrew ChoiDujourNX which can update your firmware without burning fuses. Burnt fuses are what prevents downgrading in the first place so if you do not burn them, logically speaking, it allows you to downgrade to the firmware you were originally on.

Not sure what the compatibility of custom themes is with respect to firmware except that they do not work on firmware 6.0 so if you want to use them, at the very least, you would do well not to update to that firmware. If you must update, 5.1 is the best firmware for CFW currently which you can do so with the aforementioned ChoiDujourNX.

You can restore your clean 4.1 NAND, then update to any firmware you want, and then you can make your EmuNAND partition. However, you cannot restore the clean NAND and avoid having to reinstall all of your backups; its one or the other since the clean NAND doesn't contain any of your backups (because its clean).

I was told since my fuses were burnt I can't restore my Nand backup as it'll downgrade my switch? I'm extremely confused on this and don't want to brick my switch on accident = /

Thanks a lot for the info. You really know ur stuff. I’ve got a couple of more questions.

What about NSP? I’ve seen people mentioned that a lot? And also about people saying that they can play backups of there games? What is that about? I know it has to do a bit with piracy or something like that?

You will only brick your Switch when you try running a firmware lower than your fuse count IF if you don't use a substitute bootloader that bypasses the fuse check such as Hekate or ReiNX. I would know since I was able to successfully load firmware 3.0.2 on my console with 5 burnt fuses. The only thing you do lose out on when you downgrade is sleep mode but since you're temporarily downgrading because of your clean NAND, this is a non-issue. Simply downgrade then update your firmware with your clean NAND backup.

.NSP is the file format for installable content such as games, updates, and DLC. If you're familiar with the 3DS, its the .CIA equivalent but on the Switch. Unlike .XCI, you can install anything you want with .NSP files. There are some restrictions such as having double the space of the .NSP on your SD card if its being installed to the SD card (unless you use network installation).

I still use .CIA files on my 3DS but not a lot since I rarely use my 3DS. How can I get some NSP files? From other websites or by owning the game?

Hi all, i installed a .nsp title while having the same title game card in the switch. when i check in data management, the game is showing installed in micro SD. However, i am not able to start the game without the game card inserted and i can't delete the game. it keeps popping out the message "please delete data after removing the game card" with or without the game card inserted. how can i remove this title? thanks.

Edit: I tried booting into HOS to remove without luck.

I'm thinking of reinstalling the nsp file. Any other suggestions?

Thanks so much.

Use Data Management to remove the software then uninstall the ticket using the homebrew app, Tinfoil under Ticket Management.

Same way you traditionally got them on the 3DS; from websites that we cannot link, name, or share here. Most, if not all, piracy sites should be carrying at least some .NSP files

Sounds good thanks :). Charging switch right now and downloading files on my Mac to see if I can hack it right now without screwing things >.>

Thx for the reply. I'm unable to remove it from data management. It's asking me to remove the game card first before deleting the software. But I removed the game card already.

I did not remove the game card before installing the nsp. Now it seems like database is pointing to game card but data storage points to sd card.

I reinsert the game card and able to run the software but still not able to delete it. If I remove the game card then the game won't run.

EDIT: I deleted the ticket and it allows me to run the software. Thanks again for your help :)
