@GreyWolf you seem to know your stuff. Is there any tool to check all my gamecube ISOs? On Wii Backup Manager you can just check all your wbfs/iso files is there any way to do that with gamecube in batch without needing to look up sha1 or md5 one at a time?

Hey guys, sorry if this info is in another thread already but I couldn't find it. I am picking up a second hand Wii with the intention to mod it and use with a PVM CRT in 240p. Everything seems fairly straight forward custom firmware, SD card, USB external drives, emulators etc. not my first time doing this kind of thing but I have some questions about controller support.

I have a Wii U pro controller already and from what I gather it can be made to work in this scenario, but will this work for everything? I plan to be playing NES, SNES, GBA, N64, GameCube and possibly even native Wii titles. Are there any adapters I need? Is this the best route to take?

The Wii doesn't exactly have a shared standard library or an operating system (apart from IOS, which is not responsible for input devices): every software has to include the controller drivers it wants to support, and exactly zero commercial Wii games do!

Quite a few emulators (and GC virtualizers) do support them, but not Wii games or for that matter most homebrew by sheer number - they would need recompilation or highly title-specific patching!

You may want a real Wii classic controller, or one of those 3rd party "Pro controllers for Wii U" with a Wiimote pointer on the back (which are actually 2in1 wiimote + classic controller clones); the Super Smash Bros 4 controller (Gamecube-lookalike), mini NES, and mini SNES controllers (and their clones) are also equivalent to a classic controller (although they may not have all the buttons)

Also note that a NTSC console won't support RGB output - you will have to change its video region to PAL (whether 50 or 60 Hz), despite the fact that RGB and YPbPr don't use said color encodings

Thanks for the information. I was under the impression the Wii U pro controller would work on the majority of emulators on a hacked Wii in general. Is that the case for the most part? Does the Wii u pro controller work on n64/gamecube games on the Wii? Is there some kind of a emulator compatibility list for controller support somewhere?

The goal really is just to have as few moving parts as possible. One controller to play all of this content would be ideal.

Also, I will be using component cables to connect to my PVM. That should work by default right?

Nintendont (for GC) supports it fine, in fact that's what I used until yesterday!
No experience on other emulators, but I bet most major ones have it, officially or not (check their page on wiibrew.org, if that fails try to find a "libwupc" build of it)
No support on the official Virtual Console emulators, of course...

Yes, YPbPr component is available on every Wii-compatible console (except Wii Mini, but that's a collector's toy and tournament prize novelty, not a console :D )

Ok cool deal, I think I have a better understanding on it all now. I'll have to look into that 2in1 Wiimote/pro controller, its looking like it will accomplish what I want. Are there any other good controllers that will work still work for emulators and what not that will hook in through the wired game cube controller ports and have the layout of the pro style controllers. Im not opposed to something wired with the right layout and controls.

Id like to commision them to make a gamecube application like that that can transfer convert remove duplicates and check sha1 and md5s like those programs its been a major stressor trying to test all my games one at a time and sort manually to make sure I dont have duplicates, I cant believe no one ever made one. Im aware of gcitbut it does not batch check files or remove duplicates or sort by region. And help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Long time since I soft mod a Wii. I have everything working just fine. I only did (2)Cios during the process 56/249 and 57/250. I know I am missing another Cios. My USBLoader GX WAD gets a usb/ios error when I click on it as a channel (wad installed). I have Nintendont installed, USB Loader GX working flawlessly. Anything else I am forgetting? Like update preventer/blocker? TIA!

UPDATE: I did notice that I needed IOS236. I have now done that with same issue with USBloader GX installed WAD. This step is done before the 56 and 57.. can that make a difference ?

I haven't mooded my Wii in ages, what channels should I get for it and were to get them? I have the White Wii with a very very old custom firmware and Scrubbed updates.

And how big are the sd/mini sd cards the old White Wii accepts? And how to load games from them? I been using DVDs to load games.

Get a USB Loader app (WiiFlow, USBLoader GX, Configurable USB Loader). Using a HD is best solution to playing games Vs Discs. :)

I did a friend's white wii 4 years ago with USB drive.

I looked at the back of my White Wii, it has what might be two USB ports. Funny how I never noticed them before. :)

Were do I get those Wii channels? Also I need to update the one the custom loads Wii and Gamecube games. Haven't updated a homebrew Wii channel since 2011.
