The upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 will have an online multiplayer mode, as revealed by Rockstar Games today. This new feature takes the foundations from the previous game and builds upon it to craft a new take on both competitive and co-op multiplayer. While the main game, Red Dead Redemption 2 is launching this October, the online portion, Red Dead Online, will go live sometime this November, in the form of a public beta. From there, Rockstar will refine certain elements and try to balance gameplay. So long as you own Red Dead Redemption 2, you'll be able to partake in Red Dead Online for free.

when i was on RDR1 for the 1st time, just exited from a pub after a very ''sober'' fists fight, a random dude run across on horse then shot me to death....-_-

then later got fixed met another random guy and got shot to death again....that was the last time i played RDR online

That's effectively the entirety of RDR's online tbf. I used to spawncamp the shit out of people till they rage quit. Good times. Probably the only entertaining thing to do in that entire game.

Hopefully they still focus on story dlc in the main game. That was the main problem with gta online, rockstar got greedy and just focused on multiplayer instead since thats where the money is at.The main game might be alright, but it will feel empty without any dlc, either that or they better make it a complete game if they don't plan on any story dlc.

i've been a fan of rockstar for years i loved gta, rdr and midnight club...
They really develop high quality games.. but the online aspect of gta online left a scar on me..
I honestly don't know how to feel about that as a company they're probably swimming in gta online cash right now..
And i'm here kinda sad that we never got a story dlc like gta 4 got.. Man gta 5 offline was a masterpiece

This is exciting. The trailer itself for the game is giving good promises; so I had to pre-order it. But I hope interest doesn't die for it though like how GTA Online is nowadays

Just bought a PS4 for RDR2, it better be worth it :)
As for RDOnline: I'm not sure I get it, is it just an added component to the main game to make it sell more?
Or do they plan to monetize it separately from the main game?

What I'm asking is, I already preordered my copy of RDR2, and now they're adding more stuff to it, which is great, but... they aren't getting any more money out of me since the online part is free? I'm confused.

As long as this doesn't touch the singleplayer experience, remaining separated from it, I think the game wil sell even more.

You have nothing to worry about.
GTAVs online is completely separate and still sort of ruined GTAV for me. Because single player missed out on a ton of dlc and updates when online became a hit. FFS they didn't even add the new cars at all. Just no effort put into single player shortly after launch.

It will be like GTA online. I'm pretty sure of that. Slow as fuck progression to squeeze money from people. It worked so it'll be their standard MO for their biggest games till it doesn't work anymore. Scorpion cards. Something like that.

I'm curious how they're going to monetize RDR Online like they have GTA Online, horses aren't really comparable to cars/boats/planes as money sinks.
Primarily guns I'd imagine. And armour and horses probably too.

I think that if it is a separate element of the game, I can kinda see the appeal even if we know that it will not have single player expansions. My biggest problem with GTA Online is that it is embedded in the main game in a way that if I am not interested in playing online, everytime I have to download huge updates for a mode that I dont use (and the lask of single player expansions too. Rockstar says that it is not viable to expand, but I really disagree. GTA V is the game that have the least content of them all, especially after playing Vice City Stories which has a ton of post game activities, it really is very impressive for a PSP and late PS2 release)

Just started playing the original red dead last week, is awesome so far seeing what the world could of once been like.

I'm counting on Rockstar to spoil the online with "cowboy crates" & such WHICH WE DON'T WANT!

Make the online with no purchases possible, just steadily unlock things the regular way, NO in app purchases that have tarnished GTA.
