Not really read about this crack malarky...

But just an idea... It would mean someone buying a SXOS key... But here we go...

The licence-request.dat, hex-edit it to zeros, upload that with your SXOS key that you have just bought...

See what licence.dat you get back if licence-request is all zero bytes. Might help identify a pattern?

There is no pattern. The key is derived from hardware identification numbers. The only way to crack this is with an emulator/"loader" . Unfortunately, nobody seems to understand this yet.

Question, if I've already ran SXOS without doing a NAND backup is it pointless to do it now? I haven't been banned so I imagine if I clean my console, make the backup, I might be okay?

If you clean your console, this could flag you for a ban. As this should not be possible using normal Horizon.

Amazing how cheap clowns are ready to brick 300 USD worth of hardware to not have to pay 30 USD and get an amazing product. Enjoy! While tons of people have been enjoying a great product with tons of features and XCI files for months now :)

In fairness, that isn't the motivation for cracking it.

Very true. I`m not a "fanboi" (is that the term?) of either SX or others, but SX has served my young son very well on his switch.

It`s good to know how things work, but I agree, for the sake of £20, it is pointless.

Never underestimate people's greediness. Or maybe they want to teach SX a lesson. Lesson for what, I am not sure.
Until then, still not cracked, and SX is getting the money they deserve for their amazing work and product.

And if they want some challenges for their hacking skills, there is plenty to do in Atmosphere and in tons of homebrew.

Another perfect example how 99% of the scene is disorganized and running around like a headless chicken.
At least SX has their shit together, along with the retroNX people and Cpasjuste and his kickass pFBA and pSNES.

For people who enjoy cracking software, the challenge itself is what motivates. People then create a write-up of their work.

Coding is a very different thing requiring a very different skillset.

The best part is that they clearly said that they were using SXOS and they didn't brick at all. Guess you didn't read that part.

The only way you could ever brick is if you were either incompetent or you were doing something that most people wouldn't be doing. SXOS can't prevent incompetence, so the people who are too stupid to launch a payload via PC or mobile could still brick their console. It can't prevent experimentation either. This is why the $300 argument is weak. I'd rather have a $300 brick than a $330 brick.

The only feature that SXOS has over other CFWs is the XCI loader. This is where a person's preference comes in. If they prefer NSP, they can get it anywhere they want but if they want to use XCI backups, they need to purchase SXOS. This argument is fine, but not everyone cares for XCI backups and the misconception about it being safer isn't necessarily true.

In the past I'd say that their dongle and jig are worth it, but there are less expensive alternatives out there now that are just as easy to use as TX's product. R4, Atmosphere-NX, etc.

At this point, there aren't that many things you could say to convince someone to buy this product. However, there might be something new whenever SXOS v2.0 releases.

This isn't to discredit TX or anything. They released their product first and had released it to some decent reception. Those who purchased their product have every right to be happy with their purchase. Just know that the reasons you bought it back then might not be good reasons for someone else to buy it right now.

To be fair to TX, their dongle is still probably the best one. There are cheaper options, but most are significantly larger when most of us are looking for something smaller than even TX.

But their software is rapidly becoming irrelevant as they lose unique features and rely increasingly on others for their new features and bug testing. The only unique feature now is .xci loading (and this fact really shows how quickly the scene has progressed).

I do own a TX Pro and SX licence, by the way. That doesn’t mean I have to be sycophantic.

Their real unique feature is time saved. You don't need to do a ton of reading to figure out how to make it work, you don't need to go download files from multiple sources, all you need to do is follow the instructions in their manual. If people like to tinker and have the free time then its great the other cfw options are available. Others may not have the time for all that or want to come back to the forums to read threads every time theres a new update and figure out of its safe to take. $40 to save that time and get the best dongle out there? Seems like a good deal to me.

Seeing how each dongle does the same exact thing, saying that something may be higher quality isn't really enough to convince a potential buyer into buying a product. Again, it becomes a matter of preference and a buyer will most likely desire a less expensive product.

On a side note, an unbiased video comparing a variety of dongles would be interesting to see and probably help a few people decide on which is best for them.

I actually didn’t mention quality - I specifically mentioned size. The fact that the TX dongle is smaller than others is simple fact. I say that as no fan of TX.

But quite frankly, the more options available at a cheaper price, the better.

EDIT - Actually, I see how ‘best’ can imply quality. My bad.

It literally took me 15 minutes to run my first cfw. That was without a dongle. I didn't do a ton of reading nor did I download that many files.

Most dongles could reduce the time needed to run your first cfw, so this isn't exclusive to TX. The process is the same regardless of which brand you prefer.

Tons of Information on how SX OS works is now gone.

Have no fear. Being the intrawebnets, the information is still out there.

Maybe someone will continue on the quest to get a cracked xci loader.

https://web.archive.org/web/20180716094226/https://gbatemp.net/threads/sx-os-crack-thread.507934/

For the record, I have an activated sx os license.

a way to crack this would be to emulate the license-request.dat info. like it contains something like a serial number,or something like that and we'd have to spoof that info and someone buys the license, uploads the license.dat along with the request and we'd have to go about figuring out how to emulate that console specific stuff

Someone's probably working on their own xci loader at this point. I honestly don't care for it, but I understand that some people do.
All other issues aside, I actually think the ability to load proper cart dumps is quite important in the long run. It’s a shame we never saw proper .3ds loading on the 3DS outside the flashcarts.
