Hi.

I am looking for solutions as to how one can record GC gameplay in 2018.
I'd like to preemptively apologize for what might be a messy post.

I have an Elgato HD60 laying around, but with no HDMI on the Gamecube I'm stuck. I could use a composite -> HDMI adapter, then go trough the Elgato. But I don't know how detrimental daisy chaining a bunch of adapters will be to audio and video quality, or gameplay experience.

There was a post on gamespot.com stating that one could use a video camera with video -in and -out. According to the user capture cards where laggy and that was one way to avoid it.

But, how would I go about recording audio at the same time? I'm guessing I would have to do a separate recording of my audio, and merge this with the video when I transfer it over to my PC. What kind of card would I need to install in order to transfer the video from the aforementioned video camera to a PC? Should I use an internal card, or something like Magix Video Saver 8 to hook up the camera?

I also have a Wii available. I could always use that, and a Wii2HDMI adapter. But I would really like to use the actual Gamecube. If using the Wii would result in better audio/video quality, it would be an option.

So. What do you do, when you want to record Gamecube gameplay?

If you can, get a GCHDMI box (I think that's what it's called), they're really good. It basically converts the digital signal from the GameCube's digital out port straight to HDMI which you can then easily record. Of course, this requires that your GameCube is one of the earlier models with a digital out port on the back, or else it won't work at all.

It does! It's one of the types with two outputs. I will look into GCHDMI.

Great! GCHDMI is really pretty cool, it's been in development for a long time but required modifying the console until recently. The only issue is that it can be a bit expensive - though, IIRC, it's still cheaper than the original mod used to be.

Do you happen to have a link to the non-mod version? I found the modchip quite easily, but I would like to not start tampering with internals if possible.

Edit: Found this thingamajig on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/GCHD-Gamecube-HDMI-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B078ZLMQH9 149USD. I'm guessing this is not it?

I found a link to the most well-known version on Amazon with a single Google search, but it was pretty expensive - should be possible to find a cheaper one with a bit more searching.

"But I would really like to use the actual Gamecube"
Why?
I can sort of get why some might dismiss emulation (fools if you ask me but to each their own) but the Wii is a gamecube unless you specifically don't run it in gamecube mode (Devolution and Nintendont technically run in Wii mod, though it is far from emulation in the traditional sense). Also far easier to get component video from (the component on the GC requires older models and an expensive cable, be it official or third party).

You basically have 3 routes, play on a wii using component; play on gamecube using svideo/composite or component if you are able; play on a wiiu's vWii mode.

For playing on gamecube and wii you'll need to convert the analogue video to digital. if you don't want to spend a lot I would recomend the Retrotink2x or spend a little more for an OSSC both are linedoublers that output a digital signal through HDMI.

For playing on wiiu you'll need a softmodded vWii (you can find a guide in here on GBAtemp) and install nintendon't, you also will need a usb gamecube controller adapter though.

is it true that is a latency free experience?
there is another similair product i think (or maybe it is an older name for this product) how does this compare to the other one?

Never heard of him but did you watch the video from rerez? Do you see how the games look when he used it to capture for the video? :ninja:

I honestly don't have interest in buying it since I don't really have interest in pulling out my gamecube over my wii u with nintendon't. But I guess it would be nice to have. Unless someone make a clone system with output to HD like most companies do. :P

GCHD is best way to go if you’re trying to do everything natively. Even the Wii HD adapter doesn’t output the same quality as the GameCube in 480p. It is however up for debate whether that difference is noticeable to most viewers.

Biggest reason to go GCHD is for the gameboy player but idk if that kind of thing interests the op.

Official cables are only component though which is unfortunate.

If anyone does decide to buy a GCHD do not spend full price there are 15%+ off coupons all over YouTube and such.

still, if the GCHD costed 60 bucks i would think it's a bit high but fair price and i would buy it.
with the discount that would be 127 ish, still a crazy prize INHO
