Personally I don't, I can't tell if that's because of my sudden disposable income, or because of how well Nintendo has it this time around though....

Ironically it is because of disposable income that I pirate. I can easily afford a second switch, and I couldn't care less about online because 99% of online content is repetitive match-based gameplay that I can't justify spending the time on when I'd rather play as many different games as possible.

So, I can't justify buying dozens of games when most of the time I only "taste" them, and I haven't gotten deep into anything multiplayer since WoW and StarCraft 2 years ago.

I can't even tell if I'm banned on my second switch. I've never attached an account to it, but Nintendo still sends me free updates to everything. If every ban is now a cert burn, that must mean I'm not banned, right? Otherwise I would have to make an account to check... but I don't care to.

My primary switch is only used to play the cartridge games I've bought, the eshop games I really love (like Dead Cells and Celeste and Stardew) and to check the eshop once in a while because its easier than googling for new releases. I couldn't possibly care about anything online at this point.

If I wanna go online, I'll just probably pick up a second Switch in the future. I just hope one day the prices actually drop. But Switches are selling like hot cakes, so who knows when that'll be. Hey, maybe I can get lucky and buy a tablet only Switch off eBay, and not get a flagged and banned Switch? :P

I am yet to pirate switch games, I'll wait for this online service thing and what it will bring to the system. It will obviously require a firmware update, but I'll refrain from updating untill I make my mind, because we can get to a point of no return.
20$ yearly is far from an horrendous value, but if all we have is a glorified emulator with a few secondary titles availabe for play, I'll do what I must. Online gaming was never for me, as I grew up with people around me to play with.

Is the service comes onwith something more substantial, sure, I'll keep it clean. Cloud saves are stupid, because mobility between consoles on the switch is non existant, so it only benefits those with more than one console in the household. Mobile app will only be for account settings and convenient insertion of payment methods and linking the mobile games, I'm almost sure.

I got my Switch for portability, local multiplayer and CFW. I have 0 interest in multiplayer gaming, I don't even pay for PS+ or Xbox live it means that little to me. I'm certainly not paying for a multiplayer experience that was free for the last 18 months, with save backups held to ransom.

The only thing that bothers me about being banned is I can't access the eshop, and as a result I can't even buy a game now digitally even if I wanted to. If it wasn't for the eshop not working I wouldn't have even known I was banned in the first place.

I have kids, the ability to put whichever games I want on the console is invaluable. I'm certainly not paying £50 each time they want to play a game only to be bored by it 10 minutes later. I also enjoy being able to play games that I would never have risked paying for, even if generally it is only for a couple of hours.

I also like emulation, especially the 4 player arcade games from 20 years ago. And games like Monster Hunter that drop nearly 2 weeks before an official release. For me personally CFW far out weighs the handful of titles that are actually worth playing online.

Man you're like my brother from another mother here. +1 to pretty much everything.

Online multi is the only thing you can't do with a hacked switch anyway, and it is the most worthless feature of the switch anyway. Everything else - new games, updates, local multi, cartridge games, homebrew, save backups, emulation - is available on (some only on) a hacked switch. Why do I even have a legit switch again? I've been thinking about hacking my main switch and just eating the ban, just so I can have a second switch full of games to play without swapping sd cards. Or maybe I'll buy a third switch - a third tablet plus a 200gb sd card is close to the same price as buying a 400gb sd card. I really don't like SD card swapping.

that's just one of the reasons why I haven't hacked my switch. I also rarely play a system if I just start pirating. I become more of a collector than a gamer as is evident with the ps3, 360, and ps4. having been banned on the ps3 for some reason, I really don't want that to happen again. it caused me a lot of frustration. however, I do like the wireless concept of the switch. it leaves me from having to mess with a bunch of cables when I can't see the back of the system. this is assuming that my switch gets banned. anyway, I might hack my system once it becomes less expensive and is safer. I do plan to download each game I own just for safe keeping. those will go on my 10TB hdd. there's number six, @KiiWii ! :P I need to place my games in my Mario and Zelda cases, in alphabetical order, so that I get/download all of them. :D

Aside from Monster Hunter pretty much everything i would want to play online i can do it much better on my PC or PS4. We have to use a phone app to actually chat on this thing and they will be expecting money to use it soon. Like others have said its missing basic networked console features and Nintendo has has the worst track record with online since day 1.

Don't get me wrong, i love the system and its portable/docked setup. I can pirate and play all the exclusives (which are mostly all offline anyway) and play a better looking and running version of 3rd party multiplayer games elsewhere, which a lot are not on it anyways.

I don't really want to play online with my Switch. And for the very few occasions that I want to play Switch games with my buddy who's living a few hundred miles from my place, I still hope for some kind of Xlink Kai method in the future to at least enjoy local multiplayer over the Internet.

I really don't see the benefit of pirate on the Switch if you can't go online.
Especially as most good games on the switch are Online ones, like Fortnite (Debatable), Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8, Rocket League, e.t.c

Thing is, I only bought a switch for its Nintendo 1st Party Titles, I have -100% interest in Indies (You cant even pay me to waste my time on one) and the only games of Nintendo's I have interest in are mainly Multiplayer ones.

Since my Switch was recently banned, i've literally been debating selling it for €200 (of course telling the buyer its banned) and buying a whole new switch.
And to be honest, I don't think i'll even bother hacking it.
At this point, I see 0 reason too.

Im not saying hacking a console is only good for pirating games (A huge example of this being incorrect, is the 3DS's Hacked Ability to stream/record for 100% free, wirelessly)
But what I am saying, is right now I see nothing useful in terms of Homebrew that can come for the switch, we can already record, and yeah ok, Save Exporting is the ONLY thing that would make me want to hack it...

My opinions, dont h8 m8 l8r
I don't care except for smash
I have Fortnite and Rocket League on my PC, why would that games be a reason to not pirate my switch
Mario Kart 8 is on Wii U
I don't miss Splatoon 2

The cost is seldom the problem, it is more the principle.

Why pay for something that is only getting cheaper and easier to run, in a field which generates more profit too, when it has been free for over a decade?

The emulator scene the last time I looked at it was pretty mediocre, I was really hoping for something more compatible and stable and feature rich but I'm sure eventually that will happen.

Homebrew was very promising in the beginning so I'm sure there will be some super useful tools and games to come from that scene.
I am not convinced it will be, or at least if you are basing it on the likes of the PSP, GBA and DS, or the xbox and the wii. All those were great platforms for the time, the Switch has a lot of downsides (poor payment, poor dev tools, small install base, hardly the best specs, controls might be marginally better than some choices but we seem to have finally/reliably got access to half nice bluetooth controllers for portable stuff, far far cheaper and easier ways to plug things into a TV) if you are some big boy dev looking to try something a bit special.

Going paid is pretty much what pushed me to hack my switch. If it was free, I probably would have thought about not doing it because of splatoon 2. Paid p2p, no thanks. Don't care how cheap it is, not paying for p2p ever, so may as well hack it.

I was always going to hack my Switch; I don't bother getting any console if I can't hack it. It's not quite about piracy, but rather modding, cheats, homebrew, all those things.

Thanks to that, the effect on my purchases is the opposite: the fact hacking can lead to a ban means I'm not willing to purchase any legal games, since I would rather not have a Switch than have an unhacked one. The Switch might be the first Nintendo console I have that I won't be purchasing games for (unless either Nintendo reverses their ban policy or a perfectly reliable way to avoid bans is developed).

Originally I was thinking about getting a second Switch to keep pristine and play original games online, but Nintendo charging for the online service dissuaded me of that idea. It's not about the price; Nintendo could charge ¢1 per year, for all I care, and I would still not pay for it. I simply refuse to pay extra for online functionality that on the PC side of things is free.

That's my beef with the online pay, but the Xbox kids just accepted it and made the other 2 companies jealous and realize they can take advantage of stupid kids too, so why not? Thanks, Xbox kids.

And for the emuscene, not that I have any faith in the switch scene other than the GOD @cpasjuste, but you must not have been a part of the PSP emu growth, cause it took them YEARS to get a half decent SNES emu running. I do miss the Xbox Scene, it's amazing to me that so far only the Wii has even come close to what the OG xbox was for emulation, even the 360 is still lightyears behind what it's older brother could accomplish. I remember thinking XBMC could be an operating system on it's own. Trying to jam some games on switch and you just end up with error codes.

Maybe it will get better.

1.) I play my legit cart copy of Splatoon 2 in OFW.
2.) I play my pirated NSP and XCI in CFW offline in Airplane Mode.
3.) I only update my legit games in OFW. (I do cart game updates with the game cart inserted, as an extra precaution)
4.) I only update my pirated games with NSP update files, offline in CFW.
5.) I never launch a pirated game in OFW.
6.) I never update a pirated game online in OFW or CFW.
7.) If I don't remember if I'm in OFW or CFW, I open the Album first before launching anything.
8.) I have parental controls turned on, so I can't "accidentally" open any games (Pirated, or legit) without a pin first as an added precaution (as well as an anti-theft measure in case my Switch is ever stolen).

I've had my SX Pro since early July, and no ban yet because I follow these 8 rules strictly, and always with caution.

Thanks for sharing this ,they should add your rules to the banning hub post xD

Not really. Restoring a clean NAND is much safer than anything else people can come up with. It may be inconvenient but it is the least involved hack meaning if someone were to get banned for restoring a clean NAND backup, then we're all screwed. Also note later on that Jayro admits this does not shield users from error codes related to homebrew/hacks meaning they will get transmitted to Nintendo if they are generated which can lead to a ban.

I do remember the PSP stuff but I was more watching from a distance. I recall all the conversations of pocketheaven and gbadev where people which could probably recount the then equivalent of http://problemkaputt.de/fullsnes.htm from memory doing what people that can do that can do, then looking over at the PSP stuff and it was more "well this old source we found is a bit lighter as it was made for 486es so if we compile it".

Also choice link at this point

I always play games locally or offline so yeah... I see it as a benefit saving money in two ways, though I understand it isn't ethically right to do.

I mainly pirate ports I already paid for on a previous console or on another plat, I already showed my support in that regard. I buy games that have multiplayer support b/c pirating makes them less fun offline.
Its like sitting in a corner playing by yourself while watching the other kids play with one another. 6.0 is worrisome for me b/c I want to experience both cfw/ofw
