Xbox All Access announced, lets you pay monthly for an Xbox console bundle

IMG_0689.JPG

Microsoft is continuing to heavily market their "games as a service" plan, with the success of their Game Pass service. The company has furthered this idea by recently announcing Xbox All Access, which will allow for consumers to pay a monthly fee for an Xbox One bundle that comes with Xbox Live and Game Pass as well. Instead of paying upfront, you'll instead pay $21.99 a month for an Xbox One S, or $34.99 for the more powerful Xbox One X, both of which include the aforementioned Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. You pay this fee for a contract of 24 months, after which you get to keep the system for no interest, assuming you made all your payments on time. After combining all the payments, customers will pay just a little bit more than they would have by buying two years of Game Pass and Xbox Live alongside a console, however, the bonus to this deal is that you do not have to come up with all of the cost at once.

Currently, this appears to be a limited time plan, and only available to those in the United States at this time. You'll also need to visit a physical Microsoft Store to actually sign up for Xbox All Access.

I actually contacted Microsoft just now and asked them if they plan to bring this plan to the rest of the world. They basically told me they're testing the waters right now and if it will be successful enough that it will be brought to the rest of the world

They did this deal with 360 too. At least at Toys R Us. Just like rent-a-center. Want something now because you're impatient and get fucked in the process? They'll be happy to accommodate.

The difference in price here is negligible. Rent a Center and Aaron's can just fall off a cliff.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up future price drops into the equation. You get the system TODAY, not when the price drops a year from now.
While I don't necessarily disagree with the other points I would say if I am comparing saving up for 24 months and getting it in the future to paying for 24 months from today then price drops do get to be a factor. 24 months is a fairly long stretch of time for this sort of thing/amount of money relative to average wage.

Not trying to be an ass, but if someone needs to save up money for a whole 24 months just to be able to afford a videogame console, that person is living in deep poverty and has waaaaay bigger issues to spend that money on, rather than videogames.

2 years of savings should buy you a car, not a $500 videogame system.

I don't entirely disagree but might say 2 years of considered savings should be a car (though I tend to cheap out and get something far cheaper, new/expensive car is mostly a waste of money), 2 years of something small every week is a different matter.

...Makes me wonder what their plans are for the Xbox RAND(), since something like this could potentially be popular near launch at full price similar to a phone contract.
Who knows, this kind of thing could be a trial run for a similar program for their next console release, on top of being an attempt to empty out warehouses.

800+ for the XBX... no thanks xD it's like a coupon trap.. You don't need to buy that but since you get a coupon then you bite.

I would do this with just the console... or if there was any advantages like saving $200 in the long run.
Yep, I feel like you'd already have to believe game pass and gold are worthwhile to you in order to rope yourself into a $400+/year tie-down. Are there even two years left of this generation of XBOX?

If you have to get financing for a few hundred bucks, there are probably more important things you should be spending that money on. I also don't think this is what was holding people back from buying Xbox this gen.

Ew, who rents things these days?

That's almost as bad a buying second-hand item

It's no different than renting a phone, tablet, car, bike, hotel room, etc. Certainly not 'ew'.

THE FORMULA IS for a Xbox1 X:

34.99€x24 months=839,76-100€(2 years xbox live gold subs)-499 (costs of Xbox 1 X)/24 months=10,03 per month! which is costs of all games u can play!

wow, THIS IS A SUCH GREATEST DEAL EVER! I would sub immediately if it's already available in EU!

You mustn't know how currency exchange works. lol

when will this service available in EU?

It's only available in US right now, unknown when it makes to the "EU". Not to mention there are Europeans part of the EU and out of the EU. So calling the continent as "EU" is an insult and inaccurate. Anyway, It'll probably make its way to Canada before it's available in UK and DE, and so on.

Is not renting, you get to keep the hardware. Is basically free financing, where you are buying the system and subscriptions but paying for them montly instead of upfront, and still save a couple of dollars from MSRP.

So rent to own.

I rent my house.

yeah I left out houses (apartments, etc) because that's more a necessity, not a luxury like a vidya gaem and the other stuff I was bringing up.

I KNOW EXACTLY HOW they work, anything related to gaming when sold at 499$ always cost 499€ here, a gaming costs 59.99 in murica? then it costs 59.99 here in EU the change is 1:1 :)
IT'S FUCKING UNFAIR
That's called economy, a pound of meat, a pound of cheese, pretty much anything you can think of, most likely won't cost the same. Some games cost $80 in Canada, $7] in America but 40£ in the UK. It's not about fairness :)

games are even cheaper if u buy them in Russia so where's the point? i was trying to say when gaming merchandises are sold in murican $ usually has 1:1 currency change in €. For a example? Official price of X1 X is 499$ and costs here in EU 499€, New Devil may cry costs 69,99 in murica? then it's 69,99€ ofc only Bill gates' son will buy them at full price, cauz street prices are always cheaper.

Also british's United kingdom IS NOT EU. Ireland is.

I'm surprised console manufacturer's haven't tried this route before. They'd be smart to push this in every way possible; bundling up with phone contracts would seem like a good opportunity. Anyway, by leasing the console then the manufacturer's really do have legal ownership of the device and hacking it can definitely be a violation of a rental/lease agreement which is much more severe than a breach of EULA.

Technically the Brits are still member of the EU. They obviously will leave soon and no one in the EU cares anymore about what they say in regards of EU politics (as far as it's legaly possible to ignore them already of course). 29 March 2019, at 23:00 (GMT+0) is the offical kick-em-out point in time ;)

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
