Hacking Cannot access eShop after Region Change from EU to US

Hi, I've got a European 3DS XL I want to region change from EU region to US region. (Please do not argue with me about why I don't need to & tell me I can play any region game I want, etc. I just want to do this.)

The first time through, I followed this guide:

After completing, I launch eShop. This is what happens next:

(In case the images don't show: I get asked to confirm a "IMPORTANT: New Country Setting: The country setting for your system has been changed since Nintendo eShop was last accessed." & click "Next." || "Use Nintendo eShop in the new country? Previous Country: Anguilla, Balance: £0.00, New Country: Anugilla, New Balance: $0.00" & click "Confirm." || "Error Code: 005-5958")

BTW, My selected region in my profile is the United States and I never set it to Anguilla. I think it's just choosing it because it's the region at the top of the list of regions in the settings.

Anyway, I did some Googling and stumbled upon this guide ( https://github.com/Plailect/Guide_RedNAND/wiki/Region-Changing ) which says you're supposed to delete your account on your original region first before doing the region change?? The first tutorial said no such thing.

So I region-changed BACK to EU and was able to access the eShop just fine. I deleted the eShop account from the eShop settings.

Then I repeated the original guide's tutorial again ( https://3ds.hacks.guide/region-changing.html ) to change BACK to US region once again, but still ended up with the same error.

What's the secret? Has anyone successfully accessed the eShop after switching from EU to US region? Should I try the github tutorial instead?

P.S. BTW, there is one step in both guides I don't understand. The guides are holding my hand through the whole process up 'til this point (Section V of the 3ds.hacks.guide)
5. Update your region changed CFW SysNAND to the latest version

I have no idea how to do that. Is there a step-by-step somehwere? I assumed it wasn't that important. Could it be preventing me from accessing the eShop after region-changing to US?

It is an old 3DS. Both guides explicitly state old 3DS can access eShop after region change (with occasional exception?) but New 3DS cannot. Unless you have some new wisdom that these guide writers did not have at the time of their writing

Yep exactly as you have said nobody has managed to region change a 3ds then been able to access the eshop.

The last step is just saying "try to update your 3ds normally", but really, this won't fix your eShop on US region.
AFAIK the only way to use eShop on a region changed 3DS is if you change the region before using eShop for the 1st time, once you use eShop your console identification data is validated and assigned to a region eShop and locked to the others.

Yep you are right in saying once the region has been selected for the eshop it is impossible to change it

I am talking about the actual major-region changing, that's what OP was trying to accomplish, on old 3ds you could use an american eshop with a EU console if you do the system menu region change before accesing eShop for 1st time ever (the n3ds have it major region pre-assigned from the factory, older 3ds not, probably they made this way in the beginning to cut costs then changed with n3ds to help mitigate exploits).

But here's a twist, you can choose another country from the same major region for your eShop if you don't link a NNID to it*. And you can also merge through a system transfer purchases made from a non linked eshop to a linked eshop, I've done it twice to purchase the last ace attorney game on brazilian eshop (where it was cheaper) to my nnid linked account that is canadian (as there were some games not available on brazilian eshop).

*Don't confuse with the Nintendo Account system from switch, that let you change both major regions and countries at will.

My intention wasn't to disagree with you, I was only clarifying that there are differences between region selection vs country selection, that you can change your country selection if no NNID is assigned (but not region).
And since "select your region" is actually not a valid operation (you can only do it through hacking) I'm trying to avoid to give the other users the impression that you can choose it with a new console normally.
Remember, other users may view this thread, and most newbies in console hacking doesn't know how to properly filter information and put them in a timeline (there are lots and lots of outdated information available).

There has been some but mostly in the Original models, but there's a chance that it may not work in some Original models consoles sometimes?

For the author of this thread, you can try with this alternative method.
1.-Connect to the eShop from the native region of the console with a Nand that has an NNID linked.
2.-Connect to the eShop from the native with a Nand that doesn't have an NNID linked; you'll get an error, power off your console.
3.-Connect to the eShop from the Nand that you changed your region to, I recommend to format this one (if you have any data that you don't want to lose in the SD Card tied to the original region, you can use Tiny Format so you can keep this data in your SD Card).

If you can't get it working with this, then sadly you'll need to apply further patches and you also need another 3DS console (from the desired region) to be able to use the eShop in the other one.

No, there is no way to use the eShop after region changing if it has been launched at least once beforehand.
