So then the best thing will be to leave it in sleep mode when in cfw?
Yes, especially if you are mobile. There are several ways to deliver the payload, PC, Android phone, Shield, internal mod chip, external dongle. Having a mobile solution is desireable in the event or a crash/freeze.

Q: If I boot in OFW mode and play my original purchased game online, am I safe?
A: Yes, you are safe to play original games online in OFW mode.

anyone can confirm this?

How would I go about installing Dev Menu without SXOS?
Depends, if you are planning on using LayeredFS, you can follow this tutorial on how to set it up (but of course you must find the files yourself). If you want to install it as an .NSP, just use Tinfoil.

Not 100% safe but certainly safer than playing in CFW

hey... I am trying to get sx os (free version...) on my switch (5.1.0) when I try to deliver the payload... it shows a micro sd card flipping the bird with text saying BOOT.DOL?

Any answers?

Make sure Boot.dat file is on sd card. Also make sure your SD card is inserted fully and is functional.

Can the transfer user profile function be used locally?

You have to be connected to the internet on both consoles. But good news! I was willing to allow my hacked Switch to get banned, so I went into OFW and connected to WiFi with it.

Set up both Switches to start the user profile transfer. Successfully transferred!

Deleted WiFi settings on hacked Switch, turned console off, went into CFW, backed up every game save with Checkpoint, turned off hacked console.

Turned backed on with OFW, connected to WiFi again, sent the user profile back to clean legit Switch, all done!

Finally went back into CFW and restored the saves to test they work. I’M VERY HAPPY ATM lol

I am very grateful that I have a copy of my saves on my legit Switch, my hacked Switch, my microSD card, PC, external USB and not just cloud.

Please forgive me, but i'm not knowledgable about the profile transfer feature, so hopefully somebody else will answer that.

All good, I ended up sorting it out. I risked a ban for my hacked console, but I did the User Profile Transfer twice in about 15 minutes. I didn’t get any error codes on either consoles, so I guess they aren’t banned... yet?

A few questions, I’d really appreciate some advice.

So I have 2 switches; 1 perfectly legit, not hacked or modded in any way. 1 hacked Switch with SX OS 1.5 with NSP’s and XCI’s from CDNSP & scene releases. I only downloaded the backups of games I own (because it was quicker & easier than making my own backups) First question is: if I install CFW on the legit Switch & only run Checkpoint once to get all my saves and make my own backup, do you think that legit Switch will be banned?

If it was to get banned, then I buy a new 3rd Switch, will I be able to do User Profile Transfer from the banned Switch to the new Switch and continue on as normal?

I have some really good saves on my legit Switch, such as Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze 400% and Crash Bandicoot 105% with 27 Platinum Relics which I would like to bring over to my hacked Switch and share here. But I also have 2,410 hours for Splatoon 2 and I’m very active with friends for that game, so I don’t wanna be banned (and I’m willing to buy a 3rd Switch and sell the banned one to someone who is okay with buying a banned Switch).

Lastly, just curious about this... my hacked Switch has never ever been connected to WiFi. All firmware updates and game updates were done through ChoiDujourNX or .NSP’s through SX OS installer. If I did system restore in OFW, would that make it a clean Switch? Or will that still be banned if it was to connect to WiFi after the OFW System Restore.

Thanks heaps in advance.

They say there hasn't been any ban report from just using Homebrew, but if you want to avoid all chances of a ban you should delete Wifi settings, do a nand backup of your legit switch before doing anything CFW/Homebrew related, then use Checkpoint to back up your saves and then restore the nand and you are pretty safe to go online given that any trace that homebrew may have left on the nand will be wiped.

If your Switch gets banned with your account on it I don't think it's possible to transfer it to a new console because Nintendo blocks all online functionality which includes transferring and they have stated that they will not help with moving an account from a banned Switch.

For your last question, restoring to factory in OFW does not clear the console's hidden logs which are sent to Nintendo when you go online, so from what I've read, I'm afraid it would be banned when you go online. Restoring a clean nand backup before going online is the only way to avoid a ban for the time being (as long as you haven't been online between the nand backup and its restoration).

Q: If I boot in OFW mode and play my original purchased game online, am I safe?
A: Yes, you are safe to play original games online in OFW mode.

anyone can confirm this?

I'm pretty sure that is not safe at all, but it would depend on what exactly is logged from your CFW use. You may be able to play your original games online in OFW for a time but this will also send your logs to Nintendo and if they see CFW/piracy traces they will ban you.

I'm trying to do a full backup of my Switch. I've followed this tutorial to the letter .
I use TegraRCM to inject the payload Hekate and the Tegra app displays Payload injected successfully. But nothing happens in my console. It remains in RCM mode.
What is going on?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Btw, I never ran any hack on my Switch before. This is my first atempt. Want to backup everything before atempting an CFW

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Running firmware 5.1.0

Is it a new console? Are you sure it's not a patched unit? Try injecting another payload like RajNX which also has the options to dump your nand under "Tools" in boot menu. If you get the RCM detected but it doesn't actually launch ANY payload, then sounds like a patched Switch.

I just bought it 3 days ago. How do I check if it is a patched unit?

Acording to the serial number thread, my switch is a patched unit! Oh no! How bad is this?
"XAJ40053X not safe to buy, probably patched" Mine is XAJ40056...

Really bad because you also updated it to 5.1. There's currently an unreleased exploit called Deja Vu that works on patched units but on FW 4.1 which is why it's advised to not update the patched consoles and wait for the exploit (no estimated date, though). So you could use your console the way it's intendend without any hacking or you could sell it and try to get an unpatched one (new or pre-owned) by checking its serial before buying. It would also help to report your unit in the serials thread, look for the latest posts on how to do it.

TX claims they will be able to support it eventually, but that is just a claim. I am not aware of any claims by the community at large. Eventually something will likely be found but no guarantee and no timeframe.

Your options are to wait or try and find an unpatched unit. Possibly used.

The best solution is to have two switches. One legit for online and an unpatched unit for offline CFW. A tablet only can be found for $180 or less on eBay.

I've also confirmed with this method, from thorasgar that my switch is patched... :( Lets hope I can return it and get my money back :(

I never understood why are there switch tablets on ebay. Where the joycons damaged? Are they banned? Are the consoles themselves damaged? Whats the catch?

Pulling my hair out here trying to get hekate and layered FS working to install dev menu. I have Ctcaers mod of Hekate as my payload and the exefs/romfs of dev menu in the layerdfs title id folder in the atmosphere folder. When I choose Layered FS or Custom FW in Hekate it says 'failed to launch firmware'. What am I missing?

If I'm on an unpatched 5.1.0 console, is there a way for me to currently backup 2 games I have on cartridge (Zelda and Odyssey) and run them from internal or SD card instead, without any type of hardware hacks? Haven't followed the scene in a while and the Switch Hacks Guide seems to imply above 3.0 needs to wait for CFW. Is this correct and there's no options as of now for doing what I want? Thanks.

Depends on what you would consider a "hardware hack". The current exploit utilizes RCM which is a feature of the console but can't be done so under normal conditions. One of them involves shorting pin 10 and holding volume + when the console turns on. Also this RCM exploit is an exploit of the hardware of the console itself, more specifically the bootrom of the Nintendo Switch. In English, it means this exploit works on all firmwares and cannot be patched via a firmware update. Nintendo can fix this exploit via hardware revisions or patching the bootrom which is evidenced by the recent ipatched Switch units (which you should only be concerned about if you bought a Switch in the last month with a firmware of 4.X).

Now if you're willing to use this exploit, you can backup your games and try to play them on your Switch without the cartridges. Your first choice is as raw .XCI files since this is the file format for Nintendo Switch cartridges. The only CFW that can take advantage of this one is SX OS (or SX Pro). Your alternative is to either convert them into a .NSP or download them from elsewhere as a .NSP. .NSP is the file format for Nintendo Switch eShop digital content including games, updates, and DLC. There are several CFWs that can accomplish this such as ReiNX, RajNX, and Hekate/Atmosphere + signature patches.
