We all know the project is taking a little while, and we all love to make fun of that. I think that we should just let The team have some space, because I know they are working very hard on this to make us happy. I think we should be thanking them for devoting all this time to the translation.

NNK is great. No doubt about that. But...

I recently finished Keroro RPG. Seriously, you people should try that game. It's amazing. And I made a guide about it recently.

I'm interested! I have a few questions, though...
1. Rating out of ten
2. Play time (Time to complete)
3. Price
4. What other game(s) is it like?
5. What system?
6. Are they sponsoring you? (;))

Thanks!

1. depends the player? if you like JRPG or not. if you like anime, and music from Ghibli or not, and fantasy in general?
2. I didn't play it yet, I'll let someone else answer
3. found it at 30$ on amazon (I just bought it! it's cheaper than I thought, and no transport fee), import from japan, with the magic book.*
4. it's a JRPG, it's like Dragon Quest and Pokemon. the best is to look at some gameplay on youtube.
5. this is the Nintendo DS subforum, so, it's for NDS. it also work on 3DS with a DS flashcard, or any emulator (PC, phone, etc.)
6. not at all. it's a free fan project. they dedicated their own time and knowledge to translate the game in order for many other people to enjoy it in english.

* this is the price of the original NDS game.
this patch is free !
this project is not a game release, only a translation patch to apply to your own game's copy.
You buy the original NDS game, you make a copy (called a dump) into a ROM file, then you patch that ROM with the translation to convert all japanese data to english. now you can play this patched ROM on the device you want (DS/3DS/emulator)

Wait... You're talking about Ni No Kuni... I already know all of this information lol! Thanks for stepping in, though! My post above was about hmsong talking about Keroro RPG... That was what all those questions were about.

OK... Also, this is very helpful... I need to know how to dump and patch my game (When the patch comes out)... I already have the original Ni No Kuni game for the DS as well as the Magic Master book. (Which I proudly translated :D)

sorry, yes I thought you talked about ni no kuni. (keroro RPG is for NDS too)

to make a dump of your NDS game, you need a hacked DS or 3DS.
you can make a dump with Wifi, or Slot2 card, or hardware device plugged into a PC.

These are old guides, maybe there are newer I'm not aware of. you'll have to search for newer guides.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-dump-your-own-3ds-ds-games-saves.274290/#entry3399726
https://digiex.net/threads/dump-nintendo-ds-game-cartridges-over-wi-fi-dump-nintendo-ds-roms.14730/
the second one is very detailed, and use wifi. though, as DS uses WEP security method only you'll need your router in WEP too.
the fastest is the hardware (but you need to buy the proper device).

The "easiest" is still to rely on someone else who already did it... not legal to share but it's what most users will do. as long as it's not shared or linked here, users can do what they want.
I'm sure certain websites will even provide the already patched version to make it even easier. It won't be our business what other website do.

the patching step will be explained when the translation is released.
either it will use an external program (delta patcher) to apply the patch to the ROM, or the team will release its own patcher. For the Spanish version of the translation, the translation group released their own patcher for the game.
it will all be explained at release. Meanwhile, be sure to get your proper dump of your game. (CRC32: 68B796B1)

OK... I have a regular 3ds... How do I 'Hack' it? Do I need to? And also, to be clear, I need to get a dump of the game? I haven't read the links yet, but I'm assuming what I need to do now is get a hacked 3ds and get a dumped ROM. If I do need to get that, where can I get one (If of course you are allowed to share.)? One more thing... If I get the patch straight from the team (who are translating now) will that count as a dump? Sorry, I'm really new to all this... This thread is the first time I've heard of it all. Thanks for your help!

The dumped ROM (original or translated) will not be shared here, this is forbidden.
so, either you create the ROM file from your own cartridge (dump), either you find the already dumped ROM file on internet (not here, as there's no link to copyrighted games)

when you get the patch, it's not a rom or a dump, it's "just" a patch. it contains only the information "where and what to replace" in the original japanese ROM.
Japanese cartridge -> Japanese NDS ROM (no sharing) + free Patch (free to share) -> patched English NDS ROM (no sharing).
the patch alone is useless, it only tell what to change and where in the japanese ROM, and does not contain anything original from nintendo or Level5, so it's not a problem to share it here. but the already patched ROM will be illegal to share.

OK. I think I might be able to find one, but what is the advantage to getting my own off my cartridge? Then, once I get the patch it will tell me what to replace and what to do with it... right? Once I do that do I have to export it or something? Again, thanks for your help on this.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And can I just take the original game's files and use that as a dumped ROM? Then when the patch comes out make the edits?

CandyIsOk:

Keroro RPG
1. 9/10 (only because I understand very little Japanese)
2. It depends on how "complete" you want to do things. Like all Tales games, there's NG+ contents. But for the main story without too much side-quests, I'd say ~20~30 hrs. I'm not sure, since the clock runs even during the pause menu (so I maxed out).
3. Don't know, but you can probably google it. I emulated it and played it on PC.
4. Quite similar with Tales of Hearts.
5. NDS (not 3DS)
6. Who is sponsoring? What are you talking about? I'm not doing some sort of patch. I don't have the programming skills to do that. I just made an English guide on gameFAQs.

advantage of dumping the game from your cartridge : it's not illegal. downloading a ROM on internet is, it's piracy.
you can play the current ROM in emulator or with a flashcard or hacked 3DS if you want, but once the translation is released you'll have to play again from the start !
if you already have the cartridge, you probably already tried that game, no reason to re-try in japanese until the patch is released, just wait for it.

Once the patch is released, it will be explained what to do, don't worry about how to apply the english text into the game.

OK. A couple things to say. By "the current ROM" you mean the original game, correct? Also, how do I dump the game from my cartridge? Thanks again!
