I don't think it would be a good decision.
It is advertised as a home console after all.

(And I'd get triggered as well as many others)
yeah, and it would be very expensive, But does anyone think overclocking will eventually be here, like imagine playing wolfenstien 2 on the go in docked quality,

The thing is considering what the switch is. yes it will eventually come but at a high risk of overheating past a certain point specifically what your asking will more then likely shorten the lifespan of the system.

Also this is nintendo they are basically trolls when it comes to this kind of stuff. they say home console but they call it a hybrid so they might pull a fast one. much like microsoft and there xbox one X scam.

wait would the hardmod be expensive or the more powerful Switch if its released. Cause thats a no duh and if you want faster better gaming its sorta expected.

Would There be any way to make this magic happen? The ONLY Gripe i Have had with the switch is that portable mode can sometimes have HORRID Graphics, I am no graphics whore though, but It is really distracting to go from a somewhat decent looking game to mush, (xenoblade 2 and doom are prime examples).

I don't care that the switch has a 720p screen,

So, is it possible to do this, if so how difficult would it be modders?

also to avoid frying the battery, would it be possible to have to switch go back to portable mode once the usb-c plug is taken out?
Should definitely be possible, the question is how much you would really benefit from it. I think a very small selection of games will benefit from it to any significant degree. But it could still be worth it I guess.
That's a feature for the future though, when CFW is more mature. Right now it's very barebones and the focus is on more important things.

well games like wolfenstein 2 are pretty difficult to play in handheld mode, the resolution is just TOO LOW, and well i don't know of many other features people may want from cfw other than emulation, homebrew ports/utilities and piracy( i am definately against piracy tho), and well we pretty much have most of those features, what is there really left to iron out? *discord thinking emoji*

Stealth is an important feature right now, as well as emuNAND.
.xci loading would be nice, but not a must.
Native Switch emulators need to improve a lot.

I just dont understand why OC-ing is so easy to do on lakka, why is it more difficult to do on horizon?? shouldn't it be just as simple, if not easier??

First of all, in order to be really useful on Horizon, it's not just a case of overclocking. Sure you can do that, but the blindingly fast output will still use low res textures and low res models. You've got to consider things individually like reduced textures/models/render quality/framerate. For example: if docked, show 1080p. Otherwise 720p. There are likely many, many decisions like that being made in multiple areas depending on the game.

With Lakka you've got access to everything. No need to figure out how things work, no need to hide your activity, no need to work around security measures.
On Horizon it's at the other end of the scale. You've got to figure out and handle:
- System security
- What system module is responsible for what
- How each system module makes its decision regarding high/low quality choices
- Whether or not this decision is made by the game or by the system
- What to patch
- How to patch without breaking other things

Etc.

If I'm wrong regarding any of this please someone pipe in.

I think it shows despite the limitations, how talented the outlast 2 developers are bieng able to port the game with most of the graphical features of the xbone/ps4 versions
I think DOOM and Wolfenstein did a lot better, because Outlast 2 barely use CPU as there isnt much in it while at least wolfenstein in the PC is a big masterpiece.

Every game out there with more graphics are always the type of games that are story tellers or without much things going on CPU wise because then they can push the graphics always higher as the CPU won't ever be a limiting factor on them...

The ones that come worse are always the ones that even a very recent I7 K like 7700K still have stuttering and doesnt push much FPS even with a GTX1080 on games like SQUAD with 64 players or more and with too much action going on you only see the FPS dropping from 80 to 30 very easily.
That sort of stuff comes out of the box with UE4. It's a ridiculously nice engine to work with.
Even though my favourite games were always Unreal Engine based, I wish that game Engine didnt even exist, I wish epic could actually have achieved something close to Frostbite, but they are years behind...

Even playing a game from 2002 or 2003 Unreal Engine 2 based like my awesome America's Army (the original) still has a few micro stuttering from time to time and wasnt exactly totally devs fault as the Unreal Engine in it almost only used 1 CPU core and 2 max back then...

Nowadays same history, DX12 in UE is a joke, Vulkan support = coming after they make 10 billion dollars on the crap Fortnite if we are lucky...

I like a lot Squad and Rising Storm Vietnam 2, but they kill the CPU, lot of micro stuttering, Unreal Engine is still not a good game engine for too massive games looking good with high physics, lot of players...

I hope they fix DX12 very fast as other crappier game engines have better support for years and they should totally implement Vulkan and fast which they actually did on the mobile which I take it as a joke when their highest priority is "mobile" (I mean WTF is even a mobile when its put 1st against PC gaming where all the hardware goodies are).

first the heat shouldnt be a problem because the dock has no cooling system. The problem is that it gets hot enough to potentially easily bend the shell casing and possibly bend the battery which could cause it to explode. If it were achievable, the forgotten TABLETOP mode with a good stand would be the safest bet.

second, yea i hate how grainy the textures for Xenoblade 2 gets off-dock, it sucks. Also looks like maybe it scales down to 540p

DX12 is a joke, but that is entirely Microsoft's mess to clean up, not Epic's.

Um, okay. Whatever you say.

I know DX12 is not working much good at the moment, at least 4 me it doesnt as its always worse, but some cases have a good performance increase...

But about Unreal Engine, all the latest games I play is just stuttering and the game looking outdated in graphics already as they are high physics games with lot of players and big maps and UE is never good for it.

I only have luck with Unreal Engine mostly on Linear games with kinda smaller maps, everything looks good in terms of graphics and performance is not bad.

ps: Those kinds of massive Unreal Engine based games really, but really need Vulkan as they have a lot of stuttering even on fairly powerful machines.

Nop, there is someone who modded a console to do that though, "DigitalFoundry" from youtube have one.
The modded Switch that Digital Foundry has does the opposite, outputting the undocked image to an external screen. That way they are able to analyze the performance of games in portable mode with the tools they use for their regular console performance analysis.

Honestly I expect we will get overclocking and fan control in the not too distant future. Remember there were rumors during pre-launch that I think some foxconn guy leaked that said they were testing Switches with fan full blast at over 2X the stock speed and that the chipset and fan can support those speeds safely sustained.

OC is really not a great option for portable because of the battery and thermal concerns, but OC docked, or even in an airflow enhanced dock would seem really doable. So many of the Switches games are using dynamic resolution and I would suspect if we could throw a big clock speed improvement at them then they would run at full and not reduced resolution more consistently.

overclocking in portable mode would be nice too tho, cuz of games like wolfenstien 2 where the dyanamic resolution is so low that you may as well be playing it on a gpd win

Oh.

Gotta correct myself: Games with texture streaming are the exception.

And yes, OCing might actually fix that, but we don't know how the engine does that.

no. overclocking will NOT fix this.

OP is right, you need to trick the switch to think it's in docked mode to show the sharper image.

this is because devs are purposely lowering the graphical quality of their games when the switch is undocked.

XBC2 is one great example where they made it look like shit undocked and had to change it back when people complained.

anyway the switch has a shitty design and is anti consumer. the internal battery will fuck your switch up sooner or later and playing on docked mode makes the switch run at full power, making your battery realy 0% really fast if you're not charging it so theres really no point to do this if you're playing on portable mode.........

also the heat will fuck up the plastic faster
