lol my Switch that I'm using for cfw and emulators (LAKKA) is higher than XAJ4004XXXXXXX so it's a good thing I was waiting to update my fw but now it's saying not to bc i'll blow my efuses. I guess I shouldn't update then if I have sx :( and here I was waiting for Pokemon is out to update. dang. I guess I'll wait and not update yet.

Is this still true? I'm just think it's better now to stay on 5.1 since ReiNX ate working fine with Sig Patch
The firmware status is no longer truly up-to-date now that we have a way to update without burning fuses. At this point, its only relevant to those who have yet to burn their fuses on a 5.1 firmware. Now the only differences between firmwares are how well you are able to follow the guides on updating without burning fuses.

The release of a new CFW solution doesn't change the status of each firmware regarding exploits. ReiNX uses the same exploit (Fusee Gelee) as Atmosphere and SXOS.

Hey guys, I think it's time to update the chart... but first I will need a little bit of help and some of your collective wisdom.

This is what I got so far. Please, fell free to point any errors you find if the info is not accurate.

@Draxzelex it's your time to shine! ;)

When other users actively refer you for Switch-related content.
  • ReiNX cannot play backups you don't own on 1.0 yet
  • Not sure why EmuNAND is included there as there's no evidence it would work on certain firmwares only. Much like ReiNX, it would be pulled from Atmosphere which is a WIP. Sleep mode implementation wasn't implemented on all firmwares via Hekate at first but eventually it was. You can keep it there if you want though.
  • Change patched 4.1 to ipatched 4.1 and above as this is the middle ground between unpatched switch units and Mariko which also results in less confusion. Simultaneously, you can also update the 5.0 column to unpatched 5.0 firmwares
  • Change patched 5.0 to 5.0/5.X Mariko units as the firmware support for Mariko is added in 5.0
  • I think PegaSwitch got updated to 4.1 but I haven't seen anyone attempt to use it so for simplicity's sake you can leave it as is but just letting you know that it does exist
Despite those recommendations, I'm loving the new info graphic.

1. Can you play backups with SX OS on 1.0.0 ?
2. I included EmuNAND just to get some talk going on. Maybe someone gets inspired to start working on it. [emoji14]
3. You're right.
4. Ditto.
5. :unsure::unsure::unsure:
6. Glad you like it. :)

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.

Backups work on all firmwares with SX OS so its a misnomer to group it together with ReiNX, or at least the way it is on the guide. I do see why you included it so I'm not sure what would be the best solution especially since ReiNX may very well support backup launching of games you don't own all firmwares at any point. Maybe keep it the way it is and if anyone asks, well you can explain the difference. Most backups won't even launch properly on 1.0 because they need a higher firmware to run (which you can bypass using .NSPs but that's another topic).

Yeah, I see what you mean.
If I start separating each CFW on the chart, it would get too cluttered. The main point of this thread is to clarify what each firmware is capable of doing. Mention of the different CFWs is just for reference.

Ok so first off good work everyone. second with all the info out there and some being out of date I am having trouble finding a answer to weather or not it is safe to update my switch to 5.+ firmware I am currently on 4.1 but the switch says my new 64gb sd card wont work unless I update. With all this fuse burning talk going to 5+ what does that really mean to me? If the latest FW is hackable then isnt that the best to use or am I wrong? I recently purchased a 2nd switch just for homebrew/backups but not getting the ban hammer would be nice although it seems inevitable. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this answer.

It wants the exFAT update since it is not natively supported by the console but that involves updating your system firmware. Your alternatives are to format to FAT32 or install the exFAT update offline. You can do that with this tool.

As for your other main question, all firmwares are exploitable with a jig and USB cable. However, if you don't want to use a jig and USB cable, either do not update or update without burning fuses by following this guide (which will link you to the same tool I linked earlier). By updating without burning fuses, you can return to your 4.1 firmware without any issues while enjoying the benefits of the latest firmware.

Thanks for that. I will update that way for that just in case moment.

I dont care about burning my fuses, I dont need to boot into rcm every time i need to keep my fuses unburned. And honestly, when warmboot is released it wont be much faster than sx pro dongle.

If you update without burning fuses you dont need to use a jig/paperclip but you will still need a big device like a phone, computer or sx pro to send the payload everytime you coldboot.

I've only ever played Mario Odyssey and stayed offline since Dec 2017, so my firmware is whatever that requirement is. SX Pro is in the mail, what firmware should I update to? I assume the .xci would include the fw update also right, so which should I play first?

How do I know if my Switch is a new unit or not ? I bought it in early may 2018 and it's on 4.1.0 version.

Try if you can load a rcm payload, if it works means that its not parched, its not rocket science if you phisically have the console.

How much important is the gamecart slot in firmwares lower than 3.0.0 to have the future warmboot exploits ?
I accidentally update the firmware when update to 5.1 without burning fuses.

Same here. I finished Mario Odyssey last month and it is collecting dust ever since.

I would rather have the gamecart working on 5.x than 3.x. But apparently there is a reason to prefer lower versions.
