I have cartridge titles installed for a few games e.g Zelda BOTW. I want to install a digital version using ReiNX.
Anyone know what happens? Should I just back up my save, remove the games files then install it clean and
restore my save or can I make life easy and just overwrite it? (I'm supposing it can't overwrite at this time since updates don't work).

Might just try it but I could easily just delete the data stored already. That's if MHDestination (below) isn't correct. I could easily back up the save and reinstall but I legitimately own the DLC too, so don't really want to delete it all.

The nsp will replace the cartridge-title (as long as you are using a nsp with the same titleID)

They should have the same title ID since they're both Breath Of The Wild, so I guess I'll just risk it and see what happens. Turns out having my console in AutoRCM drained my battery tho so can't say when I'll try it

i've stayed away from autorcm because completely draining your battery drastically shortens it's life.

I asked and got the answer I was hoping for, and have since tried it. Just install the nsp, your icon and save data will be preserved, you'll just be able to run it without the cartridge. Easy.

Ah ok, thanks! Hopefully that means it preserves the DLC too then

I just wanted to write that I did this with my whole xci library yesterday, you can just install them even if you have updated the xci game, the update is the same as the nsp.
But dave was faster to answer :)

Yes, that's true since there's only one version for breath of the wild.
But there are some games with multiple IDs (mostly because of different regions).

Yes, it behaves just like the cartridge. It uses the installed DLC and Updates

Yeah, I don't own any XCI since they're pretty much useless for ReiNX (I have NSP's).
(I mean unless in the past day its supported, but seems only useful for SX OS right now).
I'm supposing it works in a similar fashion anyways.

For those that installed nsp over cartridge, if/when you ever put your cartridge in, does it still also work with all info/saves still present?

For example, let say I was using a different sd card without that particular game on it, could I just go back to using the cartridge and/or nsp?

Same. Just the thought of having something enabled that works on my battery like that makes me shudder. I think of AutoRCM as having the AC in your car on when the engine is off.

Just leave it on the dock when not in use, silly. It's hard to imagine it going flat when getting blasted in the face with the juice that thing throws at the NX. It is pretty easy to tell if the system has gone into RCM instead of standby; the little LED on the front of the dock wont illuminate if it is RCM.

Just to clarify guys the conclusion of my question is that it just overwrites the game and it becomes playable without a cartridge. Saves and patches, etc intact! I'm not sure what happens if you place a cartridge in again after I assume it would just load from the cartridge in the meantime.

When in doubt, just backup your savegame with edizon or checkpoint, fully delete the title, and restore the save again. But I'd also think that it just replaces the cartridge version / icon and everything goes on as before.

Gotcha. If I turned my Switch off a lot, I’d definitely consider using AutoRCM. For me though it stays in sleep mode 95% of the time and I can’t always plug it in, so I held off. I guess I’m weird, I just don’t like the thought of something taxing my battery in case I forget to charge it or cant get near an outlet.

Also if I had a homemade dongle, I would use it for sure so I wouldn’t need to worry about screwing things up.

I deleted the cartridge based game then installed the nsp. The save game is preserved. If you failed to remove the cartridge based resources, then possibly deleted the game again and start over.

I don't think you understand the battery problem with AutoRCM. It really isn't hard, why do people struggle!?
AutoRCM just makes it not switch off when you think it is switched off, so when you think it is off it is actually on and battery will drain. That's all.
So to be honest, using AutoRCM if you were switching off all of the time would maybe be a worse thing to do. If you reboot a lot then AutoRCM is useful.

I just did this over the past couple of days so I can answer you.

NSP will replace the xci icon. Xci updates will merge with NSP. Updates, dlcs and saves still work.

I've also learned you can install devemenu with devemenu. The new icon will replace the old one as soon as you quit to home menu.

Oh! My fault, I gotcha now. I guess I did too much uneducated YouTube comment reading and got the wrong/negative perception of what it did.

When people said it drains your battery, I was under the impression that it was actually taxing the battery when it was turned on. Thanks for explaining

You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.

South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.
