GBAtemp Podcast Revival - Episode 1: Tempcast Returns

tempcavst_t.png

Hello everyone! It's been a while since we last tried this, but we're excited to bring you the fully fledged revival of GBAtemp's Podcast, referred to as the TempCast. This is the first episode of the revival, where everyone is getting their bearings and we casually discuss some of the latest gaming and scene hacking news. Our commentators will occasionally change from time to time, but for this entry, we've got @Meteor7 @FrozenIndignation @HaloEliteLegend and @Chary hosting this episode.

Any criticism or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We're still just starting out on this endeavor, but we hope everyone will enjoy this, as well as future podcast episodes. iTunes and Google Podcast support are planned for the next upload.

I'm not at the end of this podcast episode already, but it's interesting so far. Thanks for the effort put into it.
I just have two suggestions first if you plan to more often be part of this podcast (which would be good since you made valuable additions to the discussion) @Chary it may would make sense to change something about your configuration. It sounds abit tinny/metallic and also abit distant compared to the other participant. Second I assume you recorded one audiotrack per participant if that's the case maybe you find a way to digitally position the audiotracks in space giving abit the impression everyone is sitting around a table. That would enhance the immersion and more important would give more information to distinguish between the participant. Not that your vocies would be too similar, but it's just something that I find would make it abit more convenient. I'm aware that this podcast isn't surround sound, but it also works with stereo (though not sure how well it works with widely different audio qualities and if there is a free software to do it properly).

Keep up the great work :)
Thanks so much for the feedback!

I'd imagine a little gain control and slightly different mic positioning should help Chary sound better. She's using a good mic, so it's just other factors that need to be adjusted.

As for changing our virtual audio positioning, it's definitely possible and I know how to do it. Meteor or I can perhaps experiment with it a bit and see if it's something that truly adds to the immersion. Very slight left/right shifts might add some nice flavor to the sound. Great suggestion!

Thanks again!

Maybe we need a GBATemp Mega Thread where hidden gems will be featured?
There's just so much content that one would easily get lost!

Anyways great podcast guys! We needed this.:yay:

Good luck! I had a lot of fun when I used to do 'em with Spikey and Hadrian, et al. Expect hair to ignite once in a while, try to roll on past it, and remember to tip your editor, that's the hard work.

Chary, you've got a bit of echo going on in the room you used to record. Maybe you should try somewhere with better acoustics, or put up some acoustic foam.

As Halo said, a few people's voices sound a bit quiet/flat and would likely benefit from panning audio sources/adjusting gain.
Otherwise, it's really nice to see everyone collaborating and doing cool stuff! Great job.

The "quick and dirty" method is to make your recordings underneath a heavy blanket.

Do you have anyone doing EQ/mastering? I have some basic audio production knowledge and I'm willing to help.

Thanks for the feedback!

Meteor handled EQ and mastering for this episode, and he did a pretty good job considering what some of the original tracks sounded like. Got plenty of background noise cleaned up. I think the best thing would be to improve our recording environments and mic gain/positioning, that'd greatly increase audio quality. Definitely something we'll be working on in order to make this podcast the best it can be!

Re: my weird audio quality, I'm not entirely too sure why I sound so echo-y, as I use the exact same setup as Meteor does. So I'll try to mess with the gain settings on my mic.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Really glad to see people enjoying it!
I don't think it's your mic settings. You're just recording in a small room, and the sound is rebounding off the walls and being captured by your mic as echo. You just need to move your setup into a more open space or to use an acoustic dampener (eg a blanket)

I would love to be a part of this at some point. That being said, as that's got a snowball's chance in hell of happening, I hope you keep it going, this time. It's got a niche that simply isn't being filled by anyone right now, and if done correctly, could expand beyond just a facet of this site.

Slight criticism: It could be still more casual. It's great so far, but if you start getting into a rhythm, it'll be really cool.

I like it, but I think it could be more organized. I liked it, but there was a lot of “um, uh, if you look here, *scroll scroll* it uh, it says...” but I did like the more casual, almost more of a discussion, theme. I think Every episode you should pick a different person to “lead” the podcast (like today was Chary).
