If its 4.0.1 or less, its not going to be patched and its a very old unit in terms of manufacture.
Also it sounds like any new shipment is going to be patched if we're getting wide spread reports even for something like Walmart for a small community like ours.

You have to make a jig ( paperclip ? )
Ground pin 1 / 10 together, then try to boot while holding vol+
If it is ok, nothing should happened.
It took me at least 5 try to succed the first time
BTW, it souldn't be patched =)
patched or unpatched unit can be boot in RCM mode.
You have to also try to send any payload and see if the unit accept it or not.
Usually, I recommend using biskeydump.bin paylaod and it does not required any data on MicroSD card.

I returned it to Best Buy, and they let me exchange it for another one. The kids there were awesome! Since no more than 2 consoles can leave the back at once, they took the FW unpatched list and got the lowest firmware they found.
EDIT: Not sure if it was a false positive, but I took a screen shot of biskeydump.bat command window and it ended with "Smashed the stack with a 0x0057 byte SETUP request!" - all the other fails seem to be 0x0000
All payloads show injected but screen stayed black. The new console loaded the payload right up.

That's extremely strange. Users have reported XAW70017 working and considering that your byte setup wasn't all 0s like other banned units, yours must not have been patched. It might have potentially been an error on your computer so a false positive seems likely.
