Gaming peripheral manufacturer snakebyte, makers of the unimaginatively named Game:Chair, have today announced the Tough:Case for Nintendo Switch.

Here is the spin:

"When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Gets snakebyte
San Diego, CA – July 17th, 2018 –snakebyte group, leading innovators of consumer electronics hardware, announced today the Tough:Case™ for Nintendo Switch™, an all-new lightweight case which protects the tablet and Joy-Con controllers from accidental drops and breakages.

Designed for a perfect fit around the tablet and connected controllers, the Tough:Case has been designed to cradle the console when in handheld mode, safely preventing damage to fragile hardware, and perfect for outdoor use.

The rugged and stylish design forms a highly protective rubber shell which includes a scratch-resistant polycarbonate back cover. Quickly wrapping around the console, the Tough:Case is strong enough to protect but light enough to never intrude on console controls during intense gaming sessions. The Tough:Case is expected to begin shipping this August, and will be available in a choice of two eye-catching colors, Strawberry Pink and Black."

Not if you use something like this, which is what I recommend everyone use

It'd be great to see peripheral manufacturers to understand people want to use docked mode too and bundle something like this with their products.

I like the look of this case purely because it'll add support to the joycons when playing. Mine have slight movement and creak a bit when connected to the tablet.
At the moment I'm using official Ninty rubber joycon grips and the right one barely stays on when playing in handheld mode, this case looks to tighten up the whole unit.

Looks relatively unobtrusive in black. That said, it looks horrible in pink, like there's a giant parasite growing on the back of the Switch.

wonder why they are late to the party... the xerox machine over at snakebyte group must take several months to warm up :P

but no seriously whats it called when a known brand (wait are they a known brand?) does a knockoff of a Chinese knockoff company's design?

i can see two problems already

how are you supposed to fit it in the dock with this on?
how are you supposed to get the joycons out?
This is a handheld mode case but there are plenty of USB-C type docks which are super case friendly made specifically for the Nintendo Switch. You can also remove the case any time you want to dock and if you have extra joy-cons or other controllers for your console, this would not be much of a problem. Yes, you might spend more than you want for this convenience but you might want to make compromises for it.

OJO Dongle (for example): http://www.yesojo.com/dongle

I wish that Snakebyte would move out of gaming accessories and instead start making toilets. Not gaming toilets or anything, just toilets. Itd be great to hear the names of the models (super:Flushy anyone?).

They are OEM designs, snakebyte just buys a generic version of it, slaps their logo on and puts it in a different packaging and charges more for it. You would be surprised at how many actual well known companies do this through many different product types.
