is tinfoil for the rcm stuff save longterm wise? my right joycon controller failed to to detected (when attached, wireless works) nor in my joycon charge dock (gave charge error).

"luckily" somehow it worked again after a while, but it made me wonder if anyone else experience this issue?
Well everyone with tinfoil who experienced issues almost immediately stopped using it while some who didn't keep using it so...it depends honestly. You kinda have to have a certain amount of trust in yourself if you want to pull off tinfoilhax (patent pending) without damaging the system. It is completely safe but only in the right hands. Whether you have those hands or not depends on your ability to handle the tin foil in all circumstances.

Tbh i think i take the utmost care of it. the tinfol is so small i dont feel resistance when connecting the joycon. and when placing the foil on the right side of the pins i check it 3 times over after i taped it down.

Thats why i was suprised it happend to begin with, time will tell! Lets hope that if anything happends, its just the joycon and not the switch haha.

Installing AutoRCM can remove the jig portion. Installing an M0 trinket can mitigate the need for a USB cable to send payloads with (check the modchips subforum for details). Firmwares 4.1 and below have access to unreleased exploits that can boot CFW without the need for a jig and USB cable (instead its done via loading a webpage). Otherwise, you can keep the console in sleep mode at all times so you don't have to do all that jazz as much.

Not sure I am understanding you properly. If you don't use a second Switch to play your backups, the save data created from playing the games on your unhacked Switch will carry over into any backups you play onto it. This is because save data is stored on the Switch console itself and not on the cartridges (they are read-only meaning they cannot be modified in any way).

It would be wise to un-link the Nintendo Account before performing any hacks so the account does not get associated with any hacks. However, if your Nintendo Account does not hold any purchases you are willing to lose/any at all, it might be better to just set up a duplicate account in case you get banned. Another thing, you can still use the eShop on a banned console provided the account itself is not banned. This involves using Nintendo's website.

Actually I was thinking the save data could be lost when I unlink, but I understood now that the user and the saves remain active even after unlinking my account. Thanks

I want to go and buy an SXOS license, but I have all my saves on my games on my Nintendo account OF. How do I extract and transfer it to CFW games, is there a tutorial for this?
Also, I'd like to do that and then unlink my nintendo account (In case I need it in the future for another switch), since for that I'll probably need to go online, will I be banned in the process?

Thanks

I unlinked my account that had legit eshop purchases with game saves. After unlinking the game would no longer load. I re-installed them with devmenu and the game loads with my game saves still working.

Thanks I've also done it and confirmed that the saves are not lost.

I have questions please.

I backed up my Nand before I used SX OS and I have the following files with Hekate v1.2 (only version out at the time)

I am on Firmware v5.1.0 and I have the SDCard exFAt driver update. I am unsure if I am banned as I have never go online to verify after I updated.
Rawnand.bin
Boot0
Boot1

1. Do I need to do another Nand backup, I have since used SX OS and played backups (without real certs)? I am sure the logs would be there if so that is why I am asking.

2. I want to reset the switch and the restore the Nand Backup. My plan is to sell this switch since I just got a new one with 4.1 and the serial # is low so I know it is not patched by Nintendo.

Can I restore my Nand with just the files above that I backed up with Hekate v1.2?

I want to ensure I do not sell a banned console and I know my SX License will be gone, but I got a heck of a deal on this new Switch.
My plan is to test it by going online after resetting and then restoring the Nand to verify I can go to the Eshop. If I can then I will reset it again and then sell it. The account I am using is a generic account with no purchased content from the eShop.

3. On my new Switch it is on firmware 4.1.0 and I know this version can use deja vu which I plan on keeping it at this firmware until this is released.

My plan is to first make a backup of the complete Nand offline, then install the exfat driver offline using the latest tutorial here.

4, I know some of the newer games require latest firmware, how are people getting around this?
Are you updating offline and bypassing the fuse issue?

I am use to hacks/mods since the Commodore 64 era, and have been modding all consoles that can be since then, Xbox, Xbox 360, Playstation 1-3.

I just want to make sure that I don't screw up this new Switch on 4.1.0 and won't it to be able to use the deja vu method one day if possible.

Thanks for your help!!

There is no estimated release date for EmuNAND and people have been banned with and without clearing the error logs so the ban risk is undetermined but existent.

  1. NAND backups made with earlier versions of Hekate may be unknowingly corrupt meaning if you tried restoring it, there is a possibility the Switch will not work because the backup was defunct. At the very least, make another backup now in case something goes wrong when you restore the one made from V1.2
  2. See my answer above
  3. Not a question
  4. Yes because we currently don't have access to a firmware spoofer or EmuNAND.

Do I have all the necessary files to restore the Nand? I thought I do.

Good point on making another Nand backup with latest version.

On my old switch since I went online to get the exfat driver update after I did the Nand Backup is there any risk of me being banned.
Never went online at all after I did the exFat update.

Is Hekate v1.3 the latest version still?

Yes you can play new games that require later firmware or not, I am on 4.1.0?

You do have the required files but they may be corrupt. And restoring corrupted files into your Switch will most certainly break it. Better make a more secure backup first before attempting a restoration.

Yes, but its so minimal that the chance is non-existent. Basically, you would risk being banned for backing up your NAND. Doesn't sound highly likely IMO.

No, CTCaer's mod of Hekate is up to V3.2. It is pinned now so it should be in the same area as this thread.

The list of games required firmware version thread has not been properly updated so there are some games that now require 5.X. Check what games those are on nswdb.com

So if my original Nand Backup doesnt work and I have to revert using the newer Nand Backup that I will do prior to restoring the original Nand backup will it contain log files that I have played backups without proper cert using SX OS? This would result probably in a ban?

I'm using SX OS 1.3 on my 5.1.0 Switch. Whenever I start a game, I'm prompted by a nagging box saying that it requires an update to be downloaded, or that I can start the software instead. How can I make the nag go away ?
