As far as I can tell, mmlc just emulates the games so theoretically, yes it may be possible. The real question is why would you want to replace the roms? We already have a decent nes emulator and a retroarch core.

What if I have to restart the switch. Imagine, instead of Mega Man 4, Rockman 4 Minus Infinity. And it can save storage on your sd card.

Maybe he wants to replace the SNES/PSX ROMs?
no.

no.
Strange, you might as well use the Retroarch core or the NES emulator then. Because Rickman 4 Minus Infinity is a rom hack and therefore it will work on an emulator without a hitch.

Heres the thing. It uses battery save. I can't save or load savestates without fucking up the game.

I am not sure, but I took this quote from the Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 Nintendo page:
" Featuring faithful reproductions of Mega Man 7, 8, 9, & 10 "
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/mega-man-legacy-collection-2-switch

Same from the Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 Nintendo page:
"Featuring faithful reproductions of the series' origins with the original six Mega Man games,"
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/mega-man-legacy-collection-switch

From what I gather, they are not at all emulated, but rather remade for the Switch itself. :\
And if that is indeed the case, it means that no, we can not stick other roms in there because it's not an emulator.

I thought it was said that the NES games were decompiled and recompiled to use the developer's engine, meaning that there are no original ROMs to swap out for those.

Actually, it has been done before. look here

But even there, it's limited to only games that are themselves either the originals or hacked versions of those games that don't change the code. If you attempt to put in a different ROM in there, or one that alters the code, it will crash because they did decompile and recompile the code to their engine's specifications and are running that.
