Taiko game for Switch appears on Australian ratings board, hinting at western release

IMG_9736.JPG

The Taiko no Tatsujin series is one that is hardly ever localized, excluding its first entry back on the PlayStation 2. Fan translations have been worked on for years, translating the menus so that niche fans could experience the various releases in the series throughout the years. It was a surprise when Bandai Namco Japan announced the latest Taiko game would have English language support in its Japanese release, allowing for players to easily import it, but it seems that fans might not have to even import the game this time. The Australian Classification Board published a trademark that had been filed by Bandai Namco to release the game in Australia, meaning Taiko: Drum Master might be coming to the west. According to the registration, the game's supposed English name would be Taiko: Drum 'N Fun.

So... it's a taiko drum with a face?

I've been wondering what this little guy was for a while.

could I be enlightened as to what the franchise is? .-.

I never got the hang of Taiko - played it for the Wii U, did real well on the second difficulty but the third just spikes me. Not to say it isn't fun, anyway, just that DDR is my cup of tea. I wish for a home release of A/ce or something since the last one was like 2012 or something? But I'm getting off-topic.
The game becoming localized would be great for its fans. Whenever Puyo finally came to the west after so long, I was really happy, so I hope Taiko fans get to experience that sort of thing eventually.

It's pretty much guitar hero but better and with taiko drums

Judging from the rainbows, the killer robot in the top left, the cat-kabuki mask on the left, taranza from triple deluxe next to the robot, and the shish-kabob by the blue joycon, yes this is definitely better.

And I've never even played guitar hero before lol

This is exciting news indeed! The control scheme is the most important part of this game though, in my opinion. Having played real taiko arcade machines in Japan as well as the Wii U version with just the gamepad, a standard controller does not compare to drumsticks hitting a drum. I gather that the Switch game has a control mode where you can swing the joycons for motion controls, but this is bound to register incorrectly at times and does not have the satisfaction of physically hitting something. Here's to hoping the drum controller also makes its way to the west.

If it is brought to the west, I really hope all the songs make it in tact. The past attempt at localizing the series on the PS2 was so terrible with it's generic "american" music.

That being said, I still have my Japanese pre-order set. The official english patch coming out for the game's Asian release will be enough to tide me over.

On a slightly related and self advertising note, people who want to play more of the series be sure to check out the existing fan-translations for the 3DS and Vita iterations!

In my head >> I will not fall anymore for the yearly releases that take no effort to produce and suck money out of our wallets.

But how can I hook up my ps2 drum to the switch? Or MAYBE switch taiko drum!
Perhaps STYLUS type DRUMSTICKS!
Hori is releasing an official drum peripheral alongside the game in Japan. On top of that, touch, button and motion controls are already confirmed for the game. Lots of options, but unfortunately I don't think using a PS2 drum is one of them :ha:
