Shenmue 1 & 2 HD release date revealed

ZtQQLjE.png

The Microsoft Store might have let some pertinent information about the upcoming Shenmue remasters leak accidentally early. Pre-orders for Shenmue 1 & 2 HD for Xbox One went up on their store page, with an actual release date listed for both games. SEGA hasn't given an official release date themselves, but with all the information on the pre-order page, and Xbox's Major Nelson stating the same release date in his official blog update, its almost a certain truth at this point. Shenmue 1 & 2 HD will launch on August 21, for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.

30$ for both? wow that's pretty cheap!
And I'm ok with it releasing earlier than I thought.
KIDDING! I'M SUPER HAPPY WITH THAT RELEASE DATE! :D

will yakuza fans like this? I remember when shenmue was released, I was so hyped with dreamcast, but I didn't buy dreamcast until like 2010 I think. For the first time I tried playing shenmue and I concluded that I didn't like it (but maybe I just don't like playing this kind of game).

Not sure if want. I have heard good things, but I have no nostalgia for these games. I am not sure they would resonate with me like they do others.

As monumental of a game that Shenmue was - it's definitely a title in the rose-tinted glasses camp, I think newcomers would be hard pressed to find much enjoyment in the titles outside of those old enough to respect the age of the games or those with a strong interest in Japan.

I can't wait to play them as I never got to fully complete Shenmue II and have since sold my Dreamcast and games. I have been waiting years for this remaster ever since Project Burkley for 360 was teased. I'm just glad that they mentioned they have improved the controls for this release and hope there are a few other surprises in store.

I'm actually with you, I'm not really into this, I was more into Yakuza, but still not much (its kinda the same style of game) but i'd buy it to give it a go as an adult lol. Shenmue is a good game, but there are a lot of good games out there that arent for me...

Seriously, this alone should go a long way if done right. Just walking around was a clumsy ordeal. If they left it as is, it may have been totally unapproachable by new players and maybe even some of us old-timers revisiting it.

I first played both Shenmue I & II five years ago using NullDC. I consider them to be the precursors of this "open world, sandbox, go wherever you want" type of games. Shenmue came before GTA3.
The price is excellent considering what both games have to offer.
Shenmue is such an unique game that can be appreciate it, but with the right mindset. I think SEGA needs to offer a playable DEMO, so potential buyers can understand what type of game it is.

Or thought Yu Sazuki was the greatest mind in video games of the past 20 years. :P
