We have what, 3 people total saying they were banned only from only homebrew usage? Perhaps they were using a hekate build with LayeredFS included? I haven't upgraded mine and I don't intend to until SciresM says it's safe to use.

To each their own, but I would rather have homebrew and get banned for it than not have homebrew at all. Homebrew has breathed new life into my Switch. I have a 5 year old son that plays on my Switch at work, and since "Daddy's saves have all the good stuff unlocked" he's constantly messing with my saves. For instance, in Super Mario Odyssey he spends all my coins on power moons that I don't need, so I can't save them towards expensive costumes like the skeleton. In Pokemon Quest, he keeps spending all my PM tickets on recharging the "battery", so I can't save up and buy the decorations in the shop.

And stupidly enough, the only thing I can do to stop him from doing that is taking the Switch away entirely. There's no way of protecting my profile with a pin code or password (which any other modern console will allow you to do...), and of course if I take the Switch away then I'm the bad guy...

But thanks to Checkpoint (and I guess any other save backup / editor tool), problem solved! I just backup my saves when I'm done playing, and hand the Switch over to my son. He can do whatever he wants to my saves, and I just restore them back when I'm ready to play. Now he's happy because he gets to spend all my in-game currency without me getting aggravated with him, and I'm happy too.

Without homebrew, my only alternatives would be to ban my son from my Switch (which would put me in hot water with the wife, so I'd end up being banned from it too...) or buy a second Switch just for him to use (an extra expense that also would not go over well with the wife...) Homebrew has made my Switch fun again, at least for me. And the emulators are great too.

I have no real interest in piracy, but I sure would love a safe backup loading method that I could use online with my own personal backups. Just so that I can store all my cartridges safely, and let my son have access to my full library of Switch games without worrying about him losing them. And yes, I know I could have bought them from the eShop instead, but I prefer physical cartridges because 10-20 years down the road if for whatever reason I need to factory reset my Switch, the online play and eShop may no longer exist. By that time I'm sure we'll have a better backup loading solution though.

Hey all.

I recently found out that my Switch was banned , and i really dont know how i did get banned.

Heres what i did pretty mutch :

Everytime i was logging in CFW/romFS mode , i turned on Airplane mode (obviously) , when i was done playing around with theses tools i wiped the logs with the Clear Logs option in the hekate bootloader , and returned to the OFW.

I always did that and i never got banned. Also no , i never used online while playing around with the CFW/romFS mode as it would be a instant ban. I do recal , however , used SX OS twice , with airplane mode on , never used online , i just used it for shits and giggles. Then clearing logs etc. Yet , here i am banned , and i dont really know why. I'll try to contact Nintendo Support later , but im sure its gonna be a negative awnser by the looks of it.

Is it becose of the burned fuses or something ? If anyone can clear me on this issue/help me please do so ! I know you cannot unban a switch as of YET.

Anyways , Thanks again !

(ps : also yes i use my legit carts to play online)
you supposed to get a send swith for online purposes only.thats questions has been discussed many times in here.looks like as soonas you use any cfw and etc nintendo detects that you have used.

Get a 2DS for your kid. Switch is not for toddler.

Hi, been reading for the last couple of days on this. I have two Nintendo switches one for my son and one for hacking purposes.

I have a Team Xecuter OS X Pro and haven't used it yet. I was out of town and just got back to be able to use this.

Can I use OS X Pro offline to play backups games only (no homebrew yet) and not get banned if I elect to do a system restore before going back online keeping error reporting to No. Since I have not bought any games on Eshop I am creating an Nintendo account that I don't care if it gets banned just in case tied to a different email address I rarely use.

I want to be able to play legit Nintendo games online that we have purchased on the switch with Team Xecuter OS X Pro so not sure if I can do this without getting banned? I don't want a console ban so not sure how to avoid that other than not hacking it.

Questions:
Has anyone just used Team Xecuter OS X Pro offline to play backups and registered not with the switch but through a computer and been banned?

Has anyone used Team Xecuter OS X Pro and did official game updates and not gotten banned?

I do not intend to play homebrew so no Layered FS being used on hacked switch.

Would it be safer to make a backup of your Nand offline prior and reloading it every time you want to go online?
Not sure what tools you have to use to do this so not sure I want to attempt this either.

There is so much information out there regarding bans not sure what is true or not true, just hoping someone who has Team Xecuter SX Pro with the latest build can tell me if they have been banned or not only playing offline and doing game updates only, no homebrew.

Iwata's soul is hunting and banning any modified Switch, even the attempt or checking GBAtemp are on the menu too.

Empty logs are what caused some bans on PS3 as well. I think the solution was to replace it with a pre-filled one. Maybe there's a way to make the log files read-only. That may be enough to fool what I assume to be a mostly automated process. The safest way would be to patch the OS itself to not write certain events to the logs, but that would probably be more effort than what it's worth.

Since the RCM is a recovery mode, it's suspicious at least. So they might "flag" you to look closer. But then again, as you said. Can they see you booting from RCM to Horizon that isn't Nintendo stuff?
Yeah this is the reason I decided not to use the SX OS auto rcm b/c it modifies the nand. So im sticking with the jig/rcm way but clearing logs is the main culprit and honestly we need new payloads without that option. I might have dodged a bullet here b/c I was trying to clear my logs as well, but the damn thing froze my Switch in the process

The ones that are always "too careful" seem to be the ones that have problems. However, according to the OP, legit games are still allowed online, so obviously they aren't really banned. I remember people on PS3 CFW were talking about clearing logs, staying signed out of PSN, etc...I was on CFW for PS3 for about 6 years before I got banned...and yes, it was totally my fault for not realizing that I was signed in PSN with a modified EBOOT on a Call of Duty game....

Same. I have a 5-year-old daughter who will primarily play/watch me play. Online gaming is for my PC, not the Switch. Though I do have an interest in piracy. And emulators.

From what everyone says its clear nobody knows what's getting people banned,
but it has been made obvious clearing logs is risky on the latest FW.
If I had to guess people are either using shared unique IDs for games,
clearing logs from before staying offline, maybe the Nintendo ninjas are trying to scare us?
or Nintendo is receiving a lot more info from our switches than we think.

My best advice to avoid a ban from reading what everyone has said is one of two options:
  • Backup NAND and restore before going online (turning off airplane mode).
  • Never go online again most of us don't have reason to go online anyways.
No guarantee but those are the best ways to avoid it happening IMO.

It's crazy to me how random the bans seem. I've been using SX OS since day one with autoRCM, run homebrews (which crash a lot) but don't do back-ups; no ban yet. I've never cleared my logs and never turn off my internet connection. We'll see...

you pretty much stated the answers to your problem within the very first part of the rundown of what you did

That sounds far fetched as hell, but who knows? Maybe just a matter of time, perhaps you’ve been lucky thus far
