EZ-V Kernel 1.6 Released
No more save list, rewritten hybrid mode
ezv16-2.jpg

Turn on you DS and listen to the ethereal choir of angels singing, the long-awaited EZ-V 1.6 kernel update has been released. And no we're not kidding about the singing, that's the new EZ-V startup sound.

This update will certainly make your EZ-V sing with a faster startup time, rewritten and integrated hybrid mode, new GUI design, Moonshell 1.71 support and no more save list. This is one of the biggest updates in the card's history. You will need to format your MicroSD card with FAT16 (no more FAT32 apparently) before installing this update.

Early testing is so far very positive. Save types, card speeds and hybrid mode are now no longer seen by the user and all handled behind the scenes, making the card a lot more user friendly and accessable. The new loader looks great as well.

Unfortunately it seems that internal soft reset and the cheat function have missed this update but the EZ Team promise they won't be too far behind.

EZ-Flash Representative said:
We are aware that a lot of users have great expectations and hopes about the new kernel as indicated by the replies for my previous post. To clear up the misunderstanding, I would like to clarify that the new kernel has no soft reset and cheat engine. We are sorry that the wait continues for these two functions.

The biggest improvement in the new kernel is the rewrite of hybrid engine (used a lot of time on this), enhancing the compatibility to 100%. It is a prerequisite, as the other functions such as save recognition, internal soft reset, and cheat engine utilize this hybrid engine to operate. This can be compare to laying the fundamental foundation before constructing a tall building. On this foundation, it will only be a brief wait for the other functions. No future kernel updates will require several months of development.

That's a bit unfair!

At the least this shows they are still supporting their product.

Although I don't even have an EZ-V, (R4 user

wow it took the EZ team THIS LONG to get rid of the save list?

I mean, even the X9 (which also used a save list) abandoned its save list months ago!

if "their usual standards" means virtually 100% compatibility without having to release a new update every 3 weeks, then i guess i'll have to suffer

I'm building a new GBAtemp V3 skin from the ground up for 1.6

I currently have the bottom screen done. It's slow work...

Looks great on my DS, been working on it for about 1.5 hours so far.

Looking good Opium.

Thanks for the update. I hope the long delay means there won't be any kinks in the new kernel. I might actually use my Ez-V now that the save list is gone.

I am also trying the FAT32 MicroSD... Looks like it's usable and LoZPH runs great! It's a bit faster to load, but not that much faster (maybe 20-30% faster).

It's great to finally use the touchscreen!
