ive been updating all my backups since the day ive gotten my sx os
no ban for me yet

i doubt they do checks for game updates, because you can even update without the card in the system

Enable Wi Fi and update, nobody got banned for updating games, just for doing other things

Wrong-a-rino Flanders. Reports have been made about bans from updating, I don't know how creditable they are but I wouldn't risk it. If you have done so you've been lucky. Any instance of even going online can potentially get you banned.

Uhh NO? Updating backups is literally asking to get banned. Do not update back ups if you care about that. I have 14 backups on my SD card and majority of them ask for an update but who cares? Just click "start software" instead.
You clearly don't know much about the switch. Certain updates are mandatory.

I know enough to not update backups & wait for an alternative lmao, unless ofc you don't give a shit about being banned then go for it.
I didn't say you wouldn't get banned. I was saying your statement of "just use start software" is inaccurate because not all software updates can be bypassed like that.

there's no known ban for updating backups, just for LayeredFS and custom icons

Also, why would Nintendo ban you for updating a game, is stupid

Maybe you should check your eyes because the screenshot clearly shows it's in flight mode.

It's because there is more recent save data then the game itself. Delete savegames and it should start.

well, I'm trying snipperplus on SX OS and it asks me a mandatory update to play. Never had a save data of this game. Is there a way to play without updating? better to find another xci version of the game (more recent)?

I'm almost positive updating does not cause any issues on its own. The checks required to do online anything aren't the same as to play a game or go into the E-Shop. I use SX OS on my spare switch with an account that's not linked to any NNID's and my NNID has never been on it, so for me theres nothing to Ban because I cant use online anyway on it. BUT I still get updates, so theres no big deal imo

You must be a flat-Earther.

There have been multiple reports of people being banned for numerous things, one of the possibilities is updating game software. Can you prove that's not one of the possibilities? No, didn't think so.

People are playing it safe and not recommending updating game software for the time being if you're using backups until we know more.

Not a hard concept to grasp. At least it shouldn't be.

It seams like everyone is a expert on Nintendo and everyone is right lol, people getting so full on, you are not going online because you will get banned you are not updating games because you will get banned, your not turning on i our wifi because you don’t want to be banned. By the sound/look of it you just banned your self A self imposed ban, so why bother

Haven't got my SX Pro yet, still waiting, but I've done some (admittedly only 'some') research on the whole "Will I get banned" question...

For those saying "you will definitely get banned when updating", it seems like they're just parroting what they have heard elsewhere. There hasn't actually been a single, verified (important word here) instance of someone getting banned merely for updating a backup. Not saying it absolutely does not happen, but nobody has provided any proof for this at all.

In response to the OP, if you're paranoid, delete your save data. It sucks to lose progress, but it should work. Better than being unable to play it.

Probably people just like more options? Self ban can be reversible, Forced ban is permanent and frustrated.
Not everyone has got two switches. The person who has only one console may still want to hold the hope to flash their console back to OFW and play some future exiting game which required online services.

No, by the sound and look of it, you are taking precaution.
1. In order to shield a Switch from receiving a console ban.
2. In order to shield an account from an account ban.
3. In order to hold out for:
A. More information on what exactly is being banned.
B. A way to switch from CFW to OFW in order to play online without risk of being banned in a similar manner to how emunand worked on 3DS.

That's why bother. You don't need to be an expert to understand these things.
