Good news everyone!

As I said before, the game's main script has been translated 100%. The bugs we have found so far are graphical, like a few instances of text appearing when they shouldn't, and at least one game-breaking bug that happens with one NPC character. Here's a complete list of bugs to solve:

graphical glitches

  • Glitched text displayed after you get Kai-Man as a karabon (when prompt to select to the B button)
  • Being told I don't have enough money if I select "No" at the shop
  • Warping with Pommy in a dungeon brings up glitched text.
  • After you win the race minigame you recieve the karabon Pann. After selecting Yes/No regarding whether you want to set him to the B Button, it displays the text that is used when you lose the race.
  • There's a required miniquest where you have to buy medicine for a sick man before he can open a gate to the desert for you. But for some reason she never gave me the money.
  • A side quest of the main game is unfortunately not beatable. It's very possible that there is just still a rogue (or missing) opcode hiding in 005 somewhere that is causing the trouble.
  • A weird problem occurs when you find the final Karabon of the game and get him as a partner. Once you answer the Yes/No question for whether or not you want to set him as yur active karabon, the textbox spews a bunch of incorrect garbage and then the text box actually gets stuck on the screen! You regain control of Bomberman while the textbox is still there. XD

The last major issue is with the mini game center. It's completely broken.

All of the text for the Game Center can be found in 005 starting at pointer 128. Then stretching pretty much all of the way until the end.
It's like an explosion of opcodes. I tried to do what I could with it when I was cleaning up the file the first time, although it's pretty overwhelming.

Like what is that even. XD
I guess theoretically if it was all assembled correctly maybe the Game Center would begin working again?

We also didn't want to release the patch until a good part of the graphics has been translated, I'll look into that this week, but we'd need help from someone with graphical skills to make it somewhat goodl. I can help with the extraction and insertion of the translated graphics, so there shouldn't be issues with that! We just need help to translate them to english.

Those are our advances so far, It'd be nice if everyone could spread the voice to get some help with the graphics :)

take care!!

Hello, I have come to say that I just discovered this and I am interested in seeing this finished, if only for the battle mode. (it's more fully-featured than bomberman tournament, it'd be cool to be able to tell what all the menu options did without having to remember them)

Has there been any new progress, considering we're near the end of november?

Hello, I'm a moderator over at The Spriters Resource. I don't mean to nag, but what is left to be done as of this time? I have a friend who is both a native Japanese speaker and has translated ROMs before. As for fixing the game-breaking bugs, I have no idea, but maybe I could find someone to help with that, too? I know lots of experienced coders and ROM hackers who may be willing to lend a hand if I ask them nicely. I want to play this really badly, given I am a hardcore fan of the Jetters series since my young teen years.

hello mighty! nice of you to post here!

So far we have completed the translation of the script thanks to our AWESOME translators Higsby and Lord Kuro. Their help was invaluable for us. I am taking care of fixing some script issues that I hope won't be too troublesome, and ripping the graphics of the game! So I'd say we have a complete coverage, we do are looking for people to edit the graphics though, so if you want to come, then you are welcome to try.

Oh, I'm so happy you're still around! What needs to be edited? Other than the title screen, of course.

Also, having mentioned I work over at TSR, I would love if someone helped me finish up the sprites section for the game. I cannot link to the page, but if you go to spriters-resource dot com and search for the game you'll see what I ripped. I do not know how to rip the maps with the water animations, for example.

Hey Pablitox!

I've been living under a rock so I was really surprised to find Bomberman Jetters being worked on... it's one of my favorite GBA games. I have looked at Normmatt's git repository and the variable width font is so cool. Though obviously the repository has not been updated with the translation since 9 years ago...

I also looked into graphics editing... from using LZ77Restructor2, it seems that almost if not all graphics are compressed. However, I immediately noticed the tiles are scrambled around making it tedious to edit (aside from dealing with indexed color). Of course, I have programmed a tool to rearrange those tiles for editing as a BMP then reinsert it back into the scrambled indexes.

For those interested, I found GBAmdc useful for just extracting LZ77 (while LZ77Restructor2 seems to be an all in one tool useful for viewer where all of the graphics are). And Usenti as a BMP indexed color editor (Modern graphics editors such as GIMP or Paint.NET don't really support indexed color editing).

From what I've seen in Normmatt's git repo, another way to insert the graphics is finding some empty spot in the game and fixing pointers to point to that new location (which could be tedious in another aspect). This was done for the "Press Start" text in the title screen.

So I'm not sure if it's too late or not, but I'm definitely interested editing the graphics and I'm very willing to help. I would love to see this project to completion.

Also at MightyJetters, I believe the water animations are created using palette shifts... so rather than having separate tiles for each animation frame, you would simply update the palette with new colors (rather than updating the indexes of each tile location). I believe each tile can display 16 colors and can choose from 16 palettes (thus having a max color count of 256 colors). I'm quite interested in ripping the map as well since I find them quite beautiful artwork.
