Seems like there could be a potential lawsuit here if it starts affecting non pirates.

If you're in the US then the DMCA will work against you, but there is always a potential lawsuit no matter what you're doing.

But I wouldn't recommend you to go online again until we know more about what's safe and what isn't.

I wouldn't recommend any unauthorised activity if you're worried about being banned.

Has anyone tried injecting a cert from a random cheap legit cart and injecting it into a different game using XCI Explorer? Or are cart certs game specific now? I remember Sky3DS users doing this back in the day to avoid banhammer online.

Can't find any concrete info online, but I have a feeling that if it did actually work people would be doing it already. I'm still waiting for my 2nd Switch and my SX Pro shipping, so I can't test it myself right now.

SciresM stated in his post on reddit that certificates of switch games contain game specific information. So you need to inject a certificate of the same game.

Same for me, cannot go online with my own made backups (dumped with cert) using TX.

Actually they just released SX v1.1 and in the notes it says it fixes the cart cert problem on mounted images. This should allow proper images with proper certs to be used online now.

No even if the cert is banned the cart will still work. From what I have read N is only checking certs on games that use online play so if DKTF has no online features then it won't matter. But a banned cert just means can't connect to the servers with that cert, cart still works.

Ah, that's a bummer. I figured Nintendo would have got wise this time around. Might still be useful if you want to play a backup of a game you own legally on a different console, I guess. (Not at the same time obviously)

I could see this being somewhat problematic though. People could in theory could rent a game through something like Redbox, and dump the certificate of the cart they want to play online. Or they could buy and return a game after they've dumped the cert. Oof.

you were warned not to go online why do people never listen? :P
Maybe you should listen a bit more... This won't only affect pirates that play online; it also affects people that legally obtain used games to play online!

...doesn't this just affect people who go online with BBB dumps, since the certs are nulled? Haven't heard from anyone who was banned with his own cert and own private dump. I doubt Nintendo would ban legit game cards (and they haven't done that on the 3DS). This will not be "bad for the used market", that's just fear mongering. I doubt that would be legal and Nintendo would get a massive backslash.
This IS affecting legit game cartridges! However, it's ones that have been copied and being played by others too.

What do you mean?
If he has gone online with his original cards,
Why has he been banned???
My friend was not banned. My friend just showed me the Twitter post regarding legitimate cartridges being banned.

You had misread what i wrote: what is illegal is keeping a backup of physical copy of a game after it not being owned by the person who had backup it.
I didn't misread. I agreed that it is illegal on the seller's side. However, I also emphasized that the buyer is the one getting screwed! It really makes used game purchases a big problem (for those playing online)!

Indeed, but just purchase an used game locally/physically (not via web), so, you'll be able to test the online of cartridge before paying for it.

Let's face it, their accountants care way more about the massive "lost" revenue from people selling used games compared to piracy (which only the lawyers care about).

I have occasionally knocked about with accountants and learned a bit of their trade. Their approach to "losses" can be... I can only describe it as perverse, and what they can twist to classify as an expense is mind boggling to me at times. This also says nothing of Hollywood accounting ( https://www.theatlantic.com/busines...make-a-450-million-movie-unprofitable/245134/ and https://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/hollywood-accounting.htm ).
However I am at a loss, and also now hold a great hope, that they have not figured out a way to expense second hand games -- every other industry, including creative ones (second hand books are a long standing concept), deals with it without making a fuss which means when game types kick their feet over it I find it strange, though not as strange a game playing types actually going along with it*.

*I still remember the first wave of shill articles and forum sock puppets. Laughed then and thought it would never catch... how wrong I was.

This was a misconcepcion though. The cart was not banned, but it was actually SX OS not handling carts with the ORIGINAL (self dump) certifications, which was fixed with update 1.1. So right nwo we don't know if cards are actually getting banned. They would if two people used it at the same time, which does create an issue for rented cards and second hand ones.

L.A. Noire I think a user stated that needed the update to work, if you had it the game runs perfectly, and 1,2 switch is the same story, update and its fixed
@kamesenin888 , did you try the games yourself to test out? I will try it when I get home if the update fixes it, but having read all the posts in the thread (since I am running it and am hoping to help people out :P ), my understanding was that the update only contained the final portion of the game (which if you had the original, the game would run, but you needed the update to finish the game). Will test either way tonight.

Sadly you do need a dongle no matter what, or something else (android phone, pc) to deliver the payload. My best bet would be to give them a tutorial and leave everything ready on their phones / pc's so they could do it themselves, or have them buy dongles (SX Pro), and use the licenses for another switch (i have a second SX Pro in case my switch gets banned or something happens since I do a lot of testing for this thread).

@dashkiller I had something similar happen (not sure if it is the same issue though), my console looked like it had the battery drained, as I tried shutting off (15 second hold) and it would still show a black screen. I would take out the dongle, put it back on, and nothing. I thought maybe leaving the dongle plugged in depleted the battery on the switch while I was driving, so i plugged it into my powerbank, and after a few hours, nothing. I then plugged the dongle into the power bank to restore a charge to it, and after that my switch finally booted.

What I'm saying is that my switch entered RCM mode since I have Auto RCM enabled, but the dongle had no charge to deliver the payload, so it kept going to RCM blank screen. When i finally got the system to work (i had only left it "charging" for 10 minutes), the switch was at 90% charge. I hope this helps in some way. If not, let me know if the issue keeps happening to see if we ca help you find either a solution, or at least better understand what could be causing it in the first place.
It was posted by a user that both games worked, I cannot test atm I just telling what I saw

No problem, I will confirm this tonight then, to make sure we still have the most accurate information possible (and avoid people getting the wrong idea :P) Thanks for the comment!
