GBAtemp hiring new moderators: we need you!

GBAtemp needs you!
The GBAtemp community has just lost one of its most valuable supervisors Minox who decided to step down after years of incredible service at GBAtemp. His presence and dedication are already heavily missed, if you're reading this Minox - I really mean it and I'm sorry you decided to go.

It's time to inject some fresh blood into our mod team! If you think you have what it takes, send me a PM. You don't have to post in this thread to apply. For your information, hiring decisions are made by staff consensus, I won't be the one to decide.

So you must be wondering: why would anyone want to join the mod team on these crazy forums? Well there are quite a few incentives:
- first you get a shiny badge, and access to our secret staff forums
- become part of the GBAtemp mod family and join our secret group chat
- get free games and hardware for review (you're free to choose the games/stuff you want to review)
- weigh in on important decisions concerning the organization of events and the future of the site
- early access to new features/skins and beta testing
- climb up the ladder to become a supervisor with full power over the entire site

What we're looking for before anything is level-headed persons with good common sense, if you've submitted valid reports before you literally get bonus points. Also, if you're familiar with the 3DS and Switch hacking scene, we're looking for moderators for these areas in particular.

Interested? Shoot me a private message! Your application will be reposted on our staff forum where the staff will render their verdict. We will inform you when decisions have been made.

I would probably be a perfect candidate as a moderator, however I’m only really interested in the Computing section and I only dip my nose into the other sections to keep up to date on hacking trends. Like with Switch hacking, I’m holding off until the scene matures a bit more.

Okay. How many goats and virgins should I sacrifice in order to get this position?
One hecatomb.

If you have to ask, you don't you have enough.

That said, I think it's funny you are going off topic in a mod application thread.

I would like to be a mod, but the job will probably go to someone more qualified. I'm 30, I've been a member for almost 10 years, but I've been reading these forums for much longer. I may not have a ton of posts, but I have received a good amount of likes, and a lot of my posts are giving advice to other users about their modding adventures.

I lurk around here almost constantly, except when I'm sleeping (roughly midnight to 8 AM, EST.)

As an admin for another site, I can say that having a lot of posts isn't really a prerequisite to being a moderator. Moderating is about leading the forums and guiding them forward, in a way serving the users.

I think post quality is better than quantity, and the staff here probably thinks that too.

- If that person is good enough, it’s kinda impossible to miss them. If you do miss someone, they are likely not significant enough.

I guess I would like to summarize the issues by the following:
- Establish specific criteria rather than ones that can be ambiguous.
- Reduce the possibly of the selection process being less qualitative than it usually was by having stricter criteria of the way they are chosen.

Finally, I totally forgot that sectional mods exist (blue mods). I think given the influx and popularity of some sections over the other, it should be a no brainer (to me at least) that whoever is appointed should be sectional mods for now. That alone will cover a large part of whatever the staff feel they are lagging behind at the moment

1. Sometimes good candidates are out there, but don't post much until after applications are put out there. You also assume the current staff has the time to hunt down candidates, when I'd think their time is better spent improving the site.

2. This isn't a competition that needs objectivity, this is essentially a job application with the subjective requirements of being helpful and a fit to the team.

3. The position of local moderator shouldn't be considered just a lower rank global mod. Local moderators don't have to worry much about stuff outside their own forums, so their time is more focused on making those better. Plus there's more a sense of ownership that can help drive things further too. This is what makes reddit work: subreddits are basically subforums where moderators have mostly free reign to lead the sub community.

Can I get a list of moderators? I may have to talk about a certain "report-er" not doing the best job. They delete a whole section of comments for no reason.

No more Minox, that's a real shame. :( Easily the finest, most professional I've encountered here.

I can't think of anyone that I'd nominate. A few come close, but just miss the mark in a few departments. More diversity among the staff is always a plus, unless the 'good old (white) boys club' is something you're actually striving for, heh.
Someone with a bit of actual life experience couldn't hurt, either.

It’s common practice to delete entire comment chains when the original is deleted.
