Insomniac Games announces new VR game

The developer behind Spyro, Ratchet and Clank, and Sunset Overdrive have announced a brand new VR game today prior to E3. It's an Oculus Rift exclusive called Stormland, where you play as an android who explores islands in order to gain upgrades to their abilities. There's a single-player story, as well as multiplayer components. We're promised more information at a later date, before it officially launches next year.

In the game, you can explore an expansive environment with complete freedom—bound up cliffs, glide across chasms, and fly through the slipstream at near-terminal velocity. Then detonate explosives, harness electricity, and wield makeshift weapons to overcome titanium sentries and monolithic guardians. Play through a dramatic single-player campaign, or explore forgotten ruins with friends.

In the OP it says Stormfront, but it's called Stormland, probably just a typo lol.

Looks interesting, makes me want to own an Oculus Rift

Do we know why it's an exclusive? I have a rift so it doesn't hurt me but I'm curious. If it's a bayonetta story where oculus funded the game then I understand why they made it exclusive.

Because Oculus think they have to make up for sunk costs by continuing to push their shitty storefront. You can use Revive to play any Oculus store exclusives on Vive, but that still presents the problem of giving money to Facebook.

This one looks pretty damn great, I'll probably have to pirate it if it doesn't come to Steam in a timely manner.

This is like the war between blue-ray and HD-DVD. Until a definite victor emerges everyone is going to try to win by making the "best exclusive". Once there is a standard format HMD/Controlers it will become something like buying your favorite GPU (different brands, more or less same result) but still playing the same games.

It's not like that at all. It's an open platform for all VR HMDs (SteamVR) vs a closed platform in Oculus Home. Steam won before the battle even began, they already had a much larger marketshare and there's no reason to divide their userbase along hardware lines. Oculus are simply greedy cunts because they're owned by Facebook.
