I have hundred of dollars worth in games, I do not want to loose it by becoming banned. Should I just keep my Switch in airplane mode the whole time until an official CFW comes out?

I think Shiny (and Scires) got banned for being notorious hackers that were targeted by Nintendo. I mean, Shiny said he last used CDN almost 8 months ago on that Switch. And if Nintendo was going through a log, then these bans would be part of a bigger banwave, but its involved as many people you can count on one hand.

I agree with your statement, however I will add to that.

There has been a few famed Splatoon hackers banned in the last few days as well.

I am curious is anyone stopping to think these are warning shots? From what we know of the switch, they designed it with tight security, they can tell if you hack it, and they are going to be charging for online.

They are also fully aware of the 3DS hacking scene, and how many people think they can hack Ninty consoles repercussion free.

Maybe, these are highly publicized warning shots. Maybe Nintendo is trying to warn everyone, look we know you are hacked, we can see when you do it, we can ban you, and you can't reverse it. So stahp it.

This could be them trying to be nice, and save alot of people from a ban wave, giving people a chance to undo what they have done and stop now. They haven't pushed Mariko yet, they may very well not care, as they can just ban everyone who hacks the system. Just a thought, no facts about it, just something to chew on.

Personally I wouldn't hack or even RCM any console that I cared about not being banned, not until at least November or so. Let atmosphere be out a bit, let online come and be around a bit, ECT.

They are going to have to clean up online to charge, whether that means ban cheaters or abn everyone that RCMs, is up in the air, but one of those will have to happen in great amounts to get people to pay 20.

There will be a very very large public ban wave, and lots of people will become examples. Don't get caught on the wrong side of that.

I do agree with you, but why wouldn't Nintendo just pull the plug on everyone who is hacking? They probably would have done that by now if they could. Btw, I haven't gone into RCM for at least two weeks. When Atmosphere launches, I am going to wait a week before installing it because I don't want to risk possibly getting banned. Thank you for the tips.

I'll let them know you use 'Hecate' and not sharing your mod.

A week will not say jack if you're safe or not. For all we know they might already be banning you since you triggered RCM. Only the true hackers (yes, I don't count people that use their tools as hackers.) know if Nintendo can see the RCM triggers or not.

If you don't want to risk your account getting banned, purchase another Switch....however, Nintendo is working on a hardware revision, so you might want to get one soon. Even if you just get the console only off eBay for about $200 (saving $100 off the full price) or checking Pawn shops, craigslist, etc...

Pure and unadulterated Speculation, based on nothing but personal bias's and opinion's

  • I am curious is anyone stopping to think these are warning shots? - No, people have been banned so far for CDN, and players reports.
  • They are also fully aware of the 3DS hacking scene, and how many people think they can hack Ninty consoles repercussion free. - I have done for years and have had 0 repercussions
  • This could be them trying to be nice, and save alot of people from a ban wave, giving people a chance to undo what they have done and stop now ?- What ?, why would they do that.
  • They haven't pushed Mariko - it takes time to design, test, manufacture, and deliver to shops a hardware revision
  • Let atmosphere be out a bit, let online come and be around a bit - This I agree with.
  • They are going to have to clean up online to charge - Based on ?
  • There will be a very very large public ban wave, and lots of people will become examples. Don't get caught on the wrong side of that - Based on ?

For one thing, it's obviously just opinion, it's a conspiracy theory for gosh sakes :P. I thought I stated that, I checked again I guess I didn't my bad. But yes, it's all just opinion, based on the situations that have presented themselves.

For two, we don't know why those guys were banned, and Shiny is still claiming he hadn't used CDN in 8 months, and only 1 of those console IDs were used for that.

Maybe they were banned for CDN, maybe they were pinpointed, maybe it was CDN and Nintendo waited. We really don't know, I was just framing a possibility.

I know people have hacked Nintendo consoles for years without issue, that was my point. You must have interpreted it different. Nintendo definitely let it go on to the point where it's expected, as a given now. (Not that there was much they could do then)

As for they have to fix it, they have to fix it for paid online to work. If it doesn't, the status quo changes they are now charging people for a service, that means they have greater obligations.

Also as for the Splatoon hackers, whether they were reported or not, (they likely we're) the emails and correspondence from Nintendo that I have seen by them, has stated that Nintendo has read their devices logs and seen there were modifactions to the device, and game files.

I don't think they just ban people for a report, that doesn't mean they are actively searching to ban people. If your reported they search ypur console.

Howeveri it has been stated by multiple devs, they do have the means to do so, and they are claiming such as well in the ban emails.

The 3DS had crap security, the Switch does not.

Also as far as the Hardware revision, it is just a SOC change, and the SOC is the same just a revision with the fix for the RCM, also they have known for almost 6 months now. That's plenty of time to get a revision out, if they cared. Too many hackable devices in the wild, they have to explore other means.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

They may not feel like actively banning people that are just running home brew.

There may be no reason, cheaters will get reported, Pirated games have unique headers when 1000 people are playing the same game with the same header when it's unique it's obvious that is pirated.

I don't think they really care if you use home brew, I dont, and I think k most people don't. They care if you chest online, and they care if you pirate games. There hasn't been any pirated games in the wild yet, and Chester's have been getting banned so that is a possibility.

Plus they want your 20 bucks lol, idk we will just have to wait and see how this all plays out.

Hey Guys,

I am just wondering, can Nintendo ban me if I boot In stock firmware and use online services or can I only get banned if I boot in Hecate and then use online services? Thank you.

The simple answer is no one can tell you if yes or no you run a chance of a ban by just activating rcm even more just by booting/running code. There no one here that can tell you dude your safe cause they would be lying to you.

They wil nan you if you start a relationship online with someone through their servers like Konami

Wait what? You serious?

@Cyber_Locc, can’t you bypass that unique header like you do it on the 3DS?
Download the raw installation file (equivalent to *.cia) and install it to create an unique header?

Nope that don't work this time :(.

3DS never made a private header, we just used public headers and that worked fine. This time the headers are certificates, and the switch also has a cert, public certs will likely net you a ban. You also cannot blank the cert either.

The only way to be safe is to dump your headers. Anotherwords, backups will be fine, piracy will not (at least online).

People are seemingly forgetting the switch is not the 3DS, the Switch is extremely secure, they have learned for the 3DS. The only reason we have Homebrew right now is because Nvidia screwed up, the Switch without that, was a tank.

I just wonder if they can detect headers even if you aren't playing said game online, but have wifi enabled. Matter of fact they would also detect SX-OS possibly so it's gonna be rough going to get game updates even.

Yep, and all that gets stored into a log, a log you cannot opt out of, and will be sent to Ninty the second you go online.

That is why I got a second switch, just for home brew, they can ban it I'm not worried, matter of fact I hope they ban it right off then no worries :).

Their ban still allows system and game updates, so all is good to me. All my games are physical as well, I bought no digitals this time around for this exact reason.
