Hello Don't know if this is the place to post this but i was wandering if its easy to get banned I don't plan on hacking games but getting emulators. I've been thinking about hacking my switch but don't want to do it if there a high chance to get banned. Thanks

Very. Just do some Splatoon 2 modding and go online. Just don't be dumb, you won't get banned for using homebrew as long as it doesn't interfere with other people or Nintendo's servers.

Probably.

Any and all unauthorized modifications to your Switch can warrant a ban. Whether it be running a CFW, using homebrew, modding a game, or even playing an emulator, Nintendo can ban you for any of these. Now some carry higher risk than others but we don't know what Nintendo knows or what they would definitely drop the ban-hammer down for. For example, there was a ban wave that hit the 3DS scene but to this day we don't know why those people got banned. It is also evident that Nintendo is taking security more seriously with the Switch as there is noted to be more data sent to the Nintendo as compared to previous consoles.

The only way to not get banned is to not connect your console to the Internet and give Nintendo a reason to ban you with the information you will subsequently send. Keep it in airplane mode and play your emulators offline. This way, you can enjoy hacking while never risking a ban.

The people who got banned from Splatoon 2 are only banned from Splatoon 2

Its not an entire online ban

So if you do hack in a game there is that precedent set already

I'm curious if you have two switch consoles and both have been active one Nintendo switch acct. Could be possiblte to get banned on both units or just the one that's active ?

Haven't done any modding or even HB but I have added both my consoles to one acct and was wondering if it would be better to make a whole new acct with Nintendo and new email Addy.

Yes, make a totally new separate account as they can ban your Nintendo account along with your console.

Hack your Switch just once and the evidence will remain somewhere in one of your Switch's log files forever. There is always a possibility of getting banned once you hack your Switch.

How likely is it to get banned? I don't know. You can reduce your chances of getting banned by not cheating online or hacking Pokemon and not playing leaked games before their release date (not possible as of time of writing). People who buy Nintendo accounts get bans and becoming a high profile scene member will also get you a ban.

Chances are you won't get banned for using homebrew. They didn't ban people on the 3DS for just using homebrew. It took cheating/hacking/using the same headers(cart game backups) to get people banned.

Thing is, Nintendo is probably going to wait a bit on banning people using CFW's to see what happens. If dumbasses keep hacking and cheating in online games, then Nintendo will come down harder and swifter on the Switch (my opinion).

I think if you are really worried about it, you might want to hold off on the homebrew until more info gets processed. Otherwise I'd suggest turning off Wifi while you are booted up in homebrew mode just to be safe.

My ultimate end goal is to run my game backups, emulators, and other homebrew within EmuNAND while keeping it offline. This way I can have a clean SYsNAND.
For now unfortunately we will have to either wait for Atmosphere to support playing backups if someone works on that, or get SX-OS now and start running homebrew and game backups but keeping your sysNAND offline. What I'm gonna do is do a factory reset once I'm ready to migrate to EmuNAND if Team Xecutor releases EmuNAND. This way I can delete all the logs on my system to make a fresh clean slate for sysnand, as I move all my homebrew stuff to emuNAND. I hope emuNAND isnt linked to SysNAND though.

I honestly don't think you can get banned for playing games on SX-OS because it acts as a cartridge game, and im not going online with said game. Unless they can still read your header even if you don't go online. Well a simple fix is to play offline in that case, so that more than one header isn't shown at once.
I'm going to keep my switch offline for pretty much forever until an EmuNAND solution comes out and I can finally use SysNAND for legit games to play online with them. I'll even buy used games to use them for system updates then return them. I honestly don't see how I can possibly be banned if im keeping my system offline.

I am going to make up an answer just like all the other posters. Since no one has any idea what they are talking about since no one actually knows what Nintendo can or will ban for. I am going to stick with.

WE HAVE NO FREAKING CLUE AND ARE ALL JUST MAKING STUFF UP!!!!

And that's the way it will stay until someone peels apart any and all data sent back to nintendo and / or we have enough of a pattern of activity from nintendo to make more educated guesses.

Too soon to say that...

According to SciresM nintendo software is still kinda rocksolid this time even though they were let down by Nvidia this time...

The console logs almost everything you do, so its too soon to really speculate anything, first we need to let stuff come out and wait quite some time to get some data about banning...

Nintendo usually only bans if you do something really stupid, like going online on a game that hasn't released yet. I'd say the risk is fairly low, but if you want to be extra safe you should wait for emunand.

The same header thing wasn't really a ban, when playing a legit card or using a private header afterwards will allow you to play online again.

Probably really easy, but as long as you don't do anything that will set you apart from the general crowd and hold a flare to Nintendo's window, you should be fine. Just wait several weeks before something new comes out before trying it. There's always a risk, but it can't hurt to be safe.

Yeah, actually it's very easy to get banned.

Just follow these simple steps for a near 100% ban chance:

1. Buy a stolen account
2. Play backups without cert online
3. Cheat while online-playing these games

Other then that.... We don't know!
Only time will tell.
As in every other thread about that question.

Man that's super disappointing to me.

I'm all for hacking consoles, heck, I hack just about every console I on, but cheating in a game and hacking your console are so very different things, and Nintendo really gotta step up their anti-cheat game. Or, well, I mean...do any anti-cheat at all.
I'm feeling reluctant to pay a monthly fee for online if the company I'm paying isn't even gonna work to ensure I have a good online experience.

To me, any kind of cheat that is used online should be an instant ban on everything. The console, the accounts data in the game should be wiped from the tables, even the NNID should be terminated, etc.

mk8d has even better anti cheat than on wiiu. itll disconnect you if you load in an impossible item for example, but for some reason, splatoon2 practically wiped the anti cheat from their game. but yeaa they could def improve their cheat defense.
