Hacking The Cons of using SX OS!

What would you rather do?

  • Get backup loading now even if Atmosphere wont be supported earlier on Higher firmware.

  • I'll stay on lower firmware and wait for Atmosphere.

  • I'll stay on lower firmware and wait for Atmosphere, but still use TX dongle for convenience

  • I'll only play small games on my fat32 sd card and not update.

And what is preventing team Xecuter to include an exFat driver in their OS ?
IF it's an OS, they have kernel privilege and thus they can include every driver they want

It's an OS patch, since it's only 16MB big. It just changes things in memory, maybe adds a service process or two. The exFAT support is a licensed product, they'd need to pay licensing fees to add it to their CFW.

Sorry, but how do you know that the SX OS is just 16MB ? (
As for exFat there is a Free implementation via FUSE on LInux

Why apologize? It's in the FAQ:
  • Q: How much space is used up on microSD for SX OS?
    A:
Only 16MB. To clarify, our OS will not alter in any way your microSD game & homebrew capacity.
Even if they use a 3rd party implementation, they need to interface it with the Switch's OS, it'd be far easier to just sideline the official exFAT software update.

From the FAQ
  • Q: Which file format does SX OS support? What about split files?
    A:
We support both FAT32 and exFAT.
SX OS will also try to look for split files in the form of "filename.xc0" "filename.xc1" "filename.xc2" and so on to support ROMs larger than 4GB on FAT32.

So the question now is where is this XCI file splitter?
Assuming it's just a typical binary split. copy /b in Windows CMD if I recall correctly. Which I'm assuming, so I'm going to look cynical and, wrong.

It's a risk the pirates got to take because pirates gonna pirate.
It's Gateway vs. CFW all over again.
If people can't wait for piracy, then TX SX is the de wei.
Otherwise, wait if you have the patience. It will be just as beautiful as b9s + Luma3DS.
Maybe there will be TX SX clone coming. Who knows. It's a cycle.

Well you can just make the update for the SD card... TX will work on any version so why wouldn't you just update the console to last version before using it...

Also TX has updates and they can probably add the other SD formats support anytime they want...

And for last gateway also had a built-in method of running split games with their tool for the 4GB+ games, so TX can also do the same somehow...

it's been confirmed that SX OS will support split files.

Can someone confirm this please?
No. It will update your firmware.

Its an OS patch, because they tell people to go online and update via Nintendo (grand idea, btw), then patch the system partition and memory "on the fly".

We know it, because they strongarmed the closing of a thread I created called "how do we deal with TX selling a pirated OS, here on gbatemp?" - in which they basically did a 180, and swore that they would never sell an OS (with the Nintendo bootlogo on it), but that they only named their product "OS" for marketing purposes (so dumb people would buy it).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

it's been confirmed that SX OS will support split files.
1. Whats SX OS?
2. Where has it been confirmed?
3. If its TX OS - they are urging their customers, to update to "most recent firmware" using Nintendos servers, as part of their install instructions, I believe, so - what prevents people from getting the exfat driver at that stage anyhow?
4. If they have the exfat driver, they would not need to split files.

What am I missing here?

edit: TX calls their Switch OS (which is not an OS) SX OS. Have to remember that.

Thank you. Thats actually the first user centric concession they have made. For people that may want to stay on lower firmwares. I'm not in a mood to congratulate them for it, but thats the first time the've done something with the users interests in mind.

All the other stuff they did so far -

- tell you to go online to update through Nintendo
- install hacked code on your system partition
- have pirated games store saves on the system - so that when you go online later, you'll be banned
- have you install DRMed binaries - DRMed by them - so you can get locked into their ecosystem
- bricking your Switch - just to save you a step on launch
- patching in HBL as an afterthought
- having you burn efuses on update

was soly architectured to benefit them first.

The split files thing is the FIRST point on which they allow user choice, for the end users benefit. And they probably still only did it because they wanted fewer people to complain that "stuff doesnt work".

That seems to be something you made up.

- have pirated games store saves on the system - so that when you go online later, you'll be banned

Only if you pirate games, if you backup your own games then this won't happen.

- have you install DRMed binaries - DRMed by them - so you can get locked into their ecosystem

It's to stop you pirating it, because a vast number of their customers are pirates.

- bricking your Switch - just to save you a step on launch

It's not a brick, it's a recovery mode loop. Which is awesome for people who always want to boot into recovery mode.

- having you burn efuses on update

I think you'll find that is Nintendo that burns efuses. It's not TX fault at all.

was soly architectured to benefit them first.

Isn't that what companies do?

Most people understood what they were doing, it was mainly you that accused them of distributing Nintendo copyright code because you hate them & wouldn't accept from multiple people that wasn't the case. That is why the thread was closed.
