Japan gets Resident Evil VII Cloud Version for the Nintendo Switch

Resident Evil VII is getting a Nintendo Switch version, just not in the traditional sense. Titled "Resident Evil VII Cloud", players will be able to download a 45MB launcher onto their Switch, which will stream the entire game through the cloud. You'll need a constant stable internet connection to access it, and as of the initial announcement, it's only going to be available in Japan. All of Resident Evil VII and its DLC content is playable, and there's even a 15 minute free demo of the game for those curious to try it out. After that, it'll cost 2,000 Yen to rent the title for 180 days. Resident Evil VII Cloud will be available on the Japanese Switch eShop on May 24.

So here is the deal: Take cloud stream game or no game. What would you choose? Would you want to never play the game or play the game on the cloud?

I see this is a way to play impossible port for Switch even if it mean limit in mobility.
I'd rather not play the game

The future is gaming stream devices. Hardware you can sell on the cheap and have PC like quality graphics. These will sell like hotcakes.
Internet technology will improve and get faster making connection speed a non issue. Its a matter of time for technology to improve to make this useable.
Then there will be a split between people that like physical copies and people that prefer streaming.
Except for the repeal of net neutrality when the streaming services quadruple in price so you can get HD streaming instead of 144k YouTube videos.

Where are you seeing ANYONE being positive about this? Did you even read the posts on the first page? Everyone is saying it's shit
Most of the posts are negative, sure, but I was specifically referring to the general trend of considering this to be a viable alternative. As far as I'm concerned, streaming is acceptable provided you're the one streaming from a more powerful machine, the "software as a service" model is unsustainable long-term and anti-consumer.

A better idea would be to just charge us 10 dollars per PC game for a companion app made specifically for streaming a game to the Switch. That would make more sense than RE7 Cloud. Also, third parties would not have to worry about creating cloud servers and could place all the work on the end user and their devices + network setup.

hell no lol, then no one would release any games on switch besides nintendo lol they would all just say stream to the console and be done with it.

....pay 10 bucks to be allowed to stream one specific game that you already own, to your console? Yeah, no.

That's a fair trade. Think about it. It takes time to code software. Especially streaming software. At least this way, you get to buy a PC version of a game. Have it for keeps and you're just paying a measly 10 bucks for a companion app for the Switch. Now you can play this game on two platforms and the game is being streamed from your PC, not a corporate cloud server that would require a monthly fee.

Is the switch a streaming machine? No, it's not. CAPCOM could pull something like bethsda did and port it over at the lower possible everything. but no we get a half-assed streaming service. If I wanted to stream a godamn game I would download a steam link. This is so sad, and I hope capcom knows this.

how is it a fair trade? this would kill the switch meaning no 3rd party company would ever release their games on switch anymore they would just say pay to stream the pc version, no more games from any 3rd party, so switch would just have nintendo games and the indies and be done to obscurity for all time lol.

A Netflix-like gaming service on the Switch could work for folks who just want to play and then play something else. Of course, this would require internet at all times just as Netflix does.

PlayStation already has a service as such, I think.

Of course, Japan will eat this up, leading them to think it'll work with the rest of the planet. Then, it'll bomb because nobody wants to deal with a cloud service and always-online for a singleplayer game, and they'll have the nerve to blame us as the reason no capcom games show up on the Switch anymore.
