Perhaps for some.

Me? I am content to wait, and let the early birds get worms.

The only cost to waiting for a more mature offer, is that I miss out on early perks. I dont have such hangups. I was content to wait for atmosphere, even on a "whenever" schedule. I am still content to wait. I will not be buying a TX kit. I will wait for Ninty to exhaust their hand first.

To me, TX entering the shooter's gallery just makes Ninty have to empty their magazine faster.

There will be no 'exhausting' any hands or emptying any magazines i am afraid though. They will ban and try to stop everything that comes in their way at the same time. There is no such thing as 'first/second' when it comes to hacks, especially when most of the exploits are the same. We are not talking about a completely different method of hacking ie. Xbox360 glitch vs Drive firmware hacking here, we are talking about pretty much the same things, packaged another way, with minor differences and a different branding.

What you are indeed being protected from, by not buying the first device that comes out is bugs and possible delays in resolving issues with first batches etc. Much like how different the gamecube chips were in the beginning (viper) vs the later stage ones. Nintendo can even prepare themselves in anticipation of the Atmosphere release simply by watching the commits and setting custom messaging, we do these things at work all the time and we get alerted to possible issues with our codebase without the code even been built yet.

I was referring to exhausting their methods of detecting CFW on the system, not plugging exploit holes. That latter is indeed bottomless. If the CFW responds with all the right answers to all the questions Ninty can ask it, then they cant tell the difference.

That’s just what I was saying. A pirated game isn’t a lost sale. If they never had intentions to buy the thing in the first place, you’re losing nothing.

I personally don’t care about piracy, it’s not as if we can really do anything about it.

Sure you could shut down whoever is hosting illegally obtained software. But it’ll just show up elsewhere.

So at the end of the day, ignore it. The big companies will try and find ways to stop it, but that’ll likely be circumvented too.

It’s an endless loop that’s been going on since, well for me, the days when we could borrow a friends cassete and copy it in a dual deck cassette recorder :D
Oh wow, someone old enough to remember swap meets and "copy meets", my memberberries are tingling. Back in the day, when nobody really had Internet and those who did had slow dial-up, that was the primary way to get software. Good times.

Ahh yes, the days of downloading hundreds of files at 3-5kpbs, and getting pissed when one of them was corrupted lol. Good times.

I distinctly remember going to an Internet cafe (remember those?) with a bunch of floppies to download Mega Drive ROM's to play on Genecyst, the old school emulator. The moment I discovered that Winrar could partition files my piracy powers increased tenfold.

Maybe this was answered somewhere -- I skipped a number of pages assuming it was just pointless bickering -- but it seems like it'd be pretty easy to lose that jig, which looks like it's not much bigger than a nano-SIM card. Anyone know if there's a slot of some kind to store it on the dongle? Sort of like the slot for the stylus on the 3DS.
well I designed this jig+holder that sits in the gamecard slot

Now that I've got my account back, and have taken some time to think about this situation, I'd like to share my thoughts on this product.

First off, I think "competition" in the scene is good - even if it is between open source devs and people selling "piracy products". There is now plenty of room for ReSwitched and TX to compete to make a better "product", and at the end of the day the users win.

Second, I have realized that this product as of right now is more convenient than what ReSwitched is offering. From the perspective of the end user, the most convenient device wins, and I will (unless certain secret things release before this does ;) ) be picking up one of these devices for that reason.

However, I am still wary of the fact that this device has the power to mess with the system while running closed-source software developed by a company I'm not familiar with (though I think they have reputation in other scenes?). I would be much more inclined to support and recommend this product were the software it runs on made open-source, or if we were able to easily replace the software the chip is running.

lol the whole point of hacking is to have piracy
all is for "homebrew" comments just people kidding themselves
Hell no. Okay, I'm culprit of pirating 3DS games. But that still doesn't mean this is all about it.

The first scene-y experience I ever had was a DSTT when I was younger. I had pirated games, of course, but I spent most of my time emulating NES games. If people hadn't gotten to execute unsigned code, I wouldn't have been able to play those NES games; whereas I could still play all the others.

My first experience with 3DS Homebrew was Pkhex. I just wanted to modify my save, without intending to even affect others.

Piracy is just the bad sister of homebrew. Homebrew is the ability to create something new and makes it good for all of us. Piracy is the ability to do things that you already could, but this time ilegally.

I won't tell anyone to stop pirating as I am no authority. But I will tell them to stop saying what you said, 'cause it's not true.

To be fair, the majority of users who come into the homebrew scene started with piracy, then moved into homebrew. This has been the case since homebrew scenes were a thing. Free games are appealing to everyone.

I'm a bit conflicted.

I have a 5.0 switch but considering returning it for atmosphere.

With gateway, they were better in the early days but then stopped supporting; whilst the free methods continued to get updated and became better.

Unsure which way to go. Is there any estimated release date for this or pricE?

Flashcart never killed the spirit of homebrew on 3ds. in fact it was the other way around so i don't see how this is any different.
If I am right, Gateway was what eventually lead to softmods such as the current method.

If I am right, soft(ish)moding Switch is a thing from weeks before this video and will always be.

We're theorizing 30$ for price, but release date is unknown. If your switch is revision 1, absolutely keep it. You can get atmosphere when it comes out (june 15th ish) for free, as long as you have a phone you can use that - and if that's inconvenient you can just buy one of these devices.

Switch softmods kinda exist already, 1.0.0 has it public and 4.1.0 has a few private exploits.

I'm afraid this will just kill the spirit of the homebrew. /Z8TSo3lIK00

All the fun, all the things being made for the scene, will die just because some people just want to make profit from piracy. A real shame.
That hasn't been an actual argument since the PSP was hacked. Every single time a device gets hacked, someone says the piracy will hurt the scene but it never does. The PSP, 3DS, and Vita still get homebrew and shit for them all the time. Hell someone just ported Quake 3 to the Vita not too long ago and one of the first things it got with hacks was piracy.
