Hi,
with the customs DNS to avoid updates, isn't it possible to use this method to update to a certain fw version ? When connecting, the system certainly check something online and somewhere.

Only if you update via a game cartridge with the desired update. No publicly available DNS can spoof the console into thinking a certain firmware is the latest, if that's even possible at all.

Yes, I apologize for how I initially responded and removed the comment about noob status. I unfortunately read your initial reply as being condescending.

Thank you for the response. No need to go digging through the forum as I've got the GitHub pages for them bookmarked. With you saying it supported up to v3.0, I suppose I'm out of luck being on v3.0.2, and figure there's no way the port closest to me for v4.x would work on v3.0.2.
Its all good in the hood :) I actually double-checked and 3.0 users have reported it not working so its actually only supported for users on 4.x and 5.x so I apologize for spreading that type of misinformation (although I find it weird they implemented support for those firmwares first...). IMO, now with the bootrom exploit public, I feel that 4.1 is better than any firmware above 3.0. Of course that involves buying a cartridge that comes pre-packaged with 4.1, but who knows? Maybe someday someone will find something in 3.x that's patched in 4.x and higher. Also if I were to bet, I feel that Atmosphere might be completed before 3.x support is added but that's just my opinion. You're not the only one waiting for that kind of support.

Hah. Yeah about that, yesterday I had a bit of a "fuck it" moment and upgraded to v5.0.2 :rofl2:

Whats the extension for Switch games/dumps?
NSO or Nintendo Shared Object.

At least you can play online to your heart's content. Everytime there's a new version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I just take a glance at Atmosphere's WIP code to get me through the day

Thanks! One thing (idk if this is piracy tbh) what are NSW files then? I have seen a couple from BBB.

NSW file format has already been taken by something else (can't remember what it was.) When you see that in the file name, I believe its referring to the fact that its a file for the Nintendo Switch. I remember perusing around for this information when BBB kept releasing dumps of Switch game's but for the life of me, I can't remember the details so I'm currently researching what is fact from fiction. I'll report back any details that I find.

BTW, the Switch's equivalent of a CIA is NSP (Nintendo Submission Package).

EDIT: NSW is the filename given to DUMPED Nintendo Switch cartridges. NSO is what you would actually theoretically load to play warez in the future.

What can a switch master key do?
Quoted from SciresM:
having a master key for a firmware lets you decrypt anything a switch on that firmware could decrypt, on your PC.

What is the easiest method of obtaining the RCM? Any step by step guide?

EDIT: Excluding the 3d printing method
Sadly, 3D printing is the easiest because its the only one thats designed for that purpose. Everything else is based on what you have available and how adept you are at handling said materials. Here is a list of common household objects used to boot into RCM.

If you want to invent your own, you just need to find a way to short pin 10 on the Switch.

Am I allowed to ask what software is used to decrypt the contents
Yes, but I have no idea where that software is. Not even too sure where you would be able to ask for that type of information. That type of program is above the paygrade of a noob.

EDIT: NVM, I'm stupid, there's a tool called hactool that will do the decrypting for you. But you cannot ask for the master key.

If i get the payload.bin from someone on YT that is doing a tutorial on how to load HBL on 5.x version. Will it damage or do anything to my switch?

Okay thanks. Thought everyone had a different payload.bin. now just need to find a paper clip lol
Be careful with the paper clip. Although using it once or twice to boot into RCM won't damage the pins on the Switch, more and more users have reported wear-and-tear on their pins after using the paper clips multiple times. Booting the payload is safe to do, but the process of getting to that is not without risk, yet.

Thanks for the heads up! On a side note.

What is a payload? Was just reading that everyone's payload.bin is different?

How can i find my own payload.bin or how can i get it?
